As it stands, I do not want the latest updates to samba because I need to keep smbclient. In 10.1, zen-updater had an option to "ignore this update" and it would ignore that update from then on. Where is that option now? It doesn't seem to exist in 10.2. Jonathon M. [opensuse-factory] 10.3A1 upgrade from 10.2

Hardware: Compaq lt1720US laptop 256M ram (activated swap when requested) Trying to use FTP install and run into the following error: After performing "Loading installation System" (much activity from FTP server) I get to "Select Mode" and choose "Update" then get the error "Failed to initialize the catalog. Try again?" If I select "Yes" I get a screen showing the correct info and select "OK" and get the same error again. This repeats continuously after being put into text mode install screen. In console screen I see the following excerpt: Loading image "10.3/mnt/boot/i386/root" cramfs: "root 73076" image size: 73076 kB So it appears that FTP is working. It is not that there are no workarounds for these, but all the time, since 10.0, one is not able to fit in a network in a 'normal' way, ti, auto search and configuring, of shares and network printers. I must say that the network, firewall and networkprinting, whether it is cups or samba shared printing, is an absolute mess.. :-( It is impossible to find a printer over the network, even if specified the exact adress, or as i noticed yesterday, the shares are not consistent: it is impossible to add new shares, and old ones suddenly 'do not exist'.... (I am realy interrested in the cause of this: Overdone security, or incompatible logonsytems?) It is realy frustrating, that if things are ok, and than with no change from one moment to another, stop working.. The way I see it, a pc or laptop with suse installed on it, should be pluggable into any network, able to find the shares, browse them, share files which can be browsed, and above all: is able to find the available printers in the network. If that is not possible, SuSE will never be first choice... That disturbs me, because I realy want SuSE to be first choice... So, now, Nvidia and Ati issues are solved, to many peoples satisfaction, the gaming issue has become easier to solve.. [opensuse-factory] Latest KDE4 updates seem to break dbus on SUSE-10.2

I have the both the KDE3 and KDE4 repos added to my installation sources on SUSE-10.2. Today morning I decided to update all packages to the current version with yast2. That included a update of the KDE4 packages. After a restart KDE3 came up with a blank screen. First I found no usable error messages but after init 3 and starting X with startx i found some messages about missing kded and dbus failures. And when trying to start kded manually it complained about missing dbus. I decided to reinstall the dbus packages. That didn't fix anything. Then I reinstalled all KDE3 packages and removed KDE4. Hi everybody, Are there any plans to bring the latest gnome (at this moment it should be around 2.18 beta2. Or will we just skip it and head right for 2.20, which would be released just around the release of openSUSE 10.3 ? Or what are the plans in this case? [opensuse-factory] FTP interface in Yast-SuSEfirewall

A user in IRC made me notice that FTP is not present in the list of pre-configured interfaces. At the moment, if a user wants to open the FTP port, he has to manually insert the port number. It shouldn't be difficult to add it for 10.3. Hello :-) It looks like the mini-cd is the old 10.2 one? in fact it have the dhcp time consuming start (the cd 1 don't have it), and when dealing with the only 10.3 online source (factory) it have a warning about not using the good source version. I had also a great problem :-): the ftp.opensuse.org srver is a _http_ server, very confusing :-( except this, all seems to go well. I use it to update a 10.2 install and it have 3Bb to doxbload, not ended already :-) I had two dependency problems: banshee (had to remove it) and kdenlive (had to unlock it), nothing really a problem. createrepo seems to have been updated and appears to have obtained functionality to create an sqlite database, besides or instead of the xml data file. More about this on in this email: http://lists.laiskiainen.org/pipermail/apt-rpm-laiskiainen.org/2007-Februar… Would it be possible for opensuse to provide the xml and the sqlite databases for the opensuse package repositories (incuding the build server)?
