[opensuse-factory] Enhancement-Requests in BugZilla

Hi everybody, out of curiosity I checked bugzilla for Enhancement requests filed against openSUSE 10.3 and there are some available. I was wondering if there is a formal process / voting to bring them in and if the community could help on anything. I guess it will be best to start addressing them as early as possible to have enough time for debugging afterwards. The point is quite simple. This problem can be considered historical and it seems a solution won't come in the near future. I understand the security concerns, but it's pointless to have a secure system if it doesn't provide the functionality you need. Moreover, not having a viable solution, users are brought to do manual changes to the firewall configuration, potentially compromising it, which is even worse. I don't think it's reasonable at all to answer that you should: - use an internal interface: almost all systems have a single card, and many offices just uses laptops for their versatility. - tell the user it's an unlucky situation, which actually is not an answer but just a way to tell "it's not my problem". Considering SuSE and Novell are promoting Linux as a viable alternative to Windows and that they want to improve interoperability between these two worlds, I have some problem to understand how interoperability can granted when it's not possible to easily configure, in a reasonably secure way, the browsing of the local network. Hi, We have done some -fstack-protector evaluations. - Performance as benchmarked. We used SPEC2000 for this, both int and float. There were only insignificant changes (<1%) in both size and speed of the testcases. - Binary / RPM Sizes The total (compressed) RPM set size of 5CDs grew by 2.9MB (0.1%). The install size (assuming installation of ALL RPMs on those 5CDs) grew by 5MB (0.05%). There is no binary running away in size increase or decrease. - Facilitation I have also checked on how often it is triggered. Scanning the i386 tree, 182792 functions are now protected by stackprotector. (objdump -d binary |grep xor.*gs:0x14|wc -l) Top: ./usr/lib/libwireshark.so.0.0.1 24579 ./usr/bin/gvim 4472 ./bin/vim 3618 ./usr/bin/wireshark 2224 ./usr/lib/thunderbird/thunderbird-bin 1803 ./usr/lib/libnetsnmpmibs.so.15.0.0 1628 ./usr/lib/xulrunner-1.8.1b2/libxul.so 1368 ./usr/lib/firefox/firefox-bin 1363 ./usr/bin/hpijs 1337 So wireshark(formerly known as ethereal), vim, Mozilla*, net-snmp... The two main compressors are nearly unaffected: ./usr/bin/bzip2 3 ./bin/gzip 5 - Final performance evaluation is difficult due to slight instability of Alpha0plus. [opensuse-factory] Replacing TuxKart by SuperTuxKart

Hi everybody, I was just a bit wondering: would it be possible for the development of 10.3 (I guess that's now the official name, isn't it?) to replace TuxKart with SuperTuxKart? I think TuxKart is way obsoleted by the latter one (current official release v0.2, a new version most likely due in mid feb, with new physics and full screen support) Packages are already available in the BS, and I think a 'merge' in the official tree could be very nice. I would even volunteer to continue the maintenance of the package build for this package (as I'm maintaining it already now in the BS). Is there already an 'official' way to get packages in the official distribution / replace obsolete ones ? I understand that such leaf applications should not be the highest priority, but I remember in 10.2 several users had problems with TK and 'converting' them to STK solved their issues and they could have fun. [opensuse-factory] TIFMxx Driver for 10.3

Hi everybody, I was wondering if it would be possible to get the driver for Texas Instrument FlashMedia Cardreaders in the next version of openSUSE. The driver is available at http://developer.berlios.de/projects/tifmxx/ (Version 0.6 so far) and I tested it on 10.2; it works perfect.On the web page it's mentioned that never versions are part of the main kernel... but so far, with 2.6.20-rc5 I did not manage to get that thing working. (ok: I did not compile an own kernel on my Notebook yet....)
