Hope this is not off topic: I observe a strange behaviour of KDE/KDM since I succeeded in installing direct rendering. Description: Direct Rendering is working. After booting I can login into KDE/KDM to some account. I can switch back to some console e.g. via ctrl/alt/F1 and do something. But if I switch back to the original screen via ctrl/alt/F7 the keyboard is completely dead, I have only the choice of doing a reset of the machine (ia32, Pentium4). Graphic card is ATI Radeon 9100 AGP 64 MB DDR, DVI TV-Out. Keyboard: generic intel 105. Any ideas, where to look? Thanks, Ekkehard

Keyboard Repeat Rate

Hi, I used to speed up the keyboard repeat rate via # xset r rate 200 75 When I moved from Xfree86 to X.Org (SuSE 9.2 current FTP version), the behaviour changed: Now when pressing a key, it waits 200 ms before it starts repeating with a rate of 75 (as before), but after about 25 repeated characters the repeat rate slows down abruptly. Is that a new undocumented feature? Reinhard

Hi all, I'm confused. After I have installed the fglrx driver. I try to run fglrxinfo and it still report the following error messages: ================ Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0". display: :0.0 screen: 0 OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.2.1) ================ I have tried to rename the /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2 and make a symbolic link to /usr/lib/fglrx/lib/libGL.so.1.2 as mentioned by the others. However, it still fails. How could I solve it? (I miss the Neverwinter Nights now...) Hi all, After I have failed the compilation, I try the fglrx driver. After that, I try to compile the kernel module DRM again. It works now! (maybe its due to the "make prepare" inside the fglrx installation guide I have typed?) I have a question now. After I install the modules and enable the 3D support, I try to run a game that require 3D, however, it fails. Do you know what kind of steps I still need to do? I'm using Raedon 9600 now... Error during instllation of Xorg6.8.2 RC2 package

I have encountered a problem. When I try to follow the procedure about compilation of Kernel modules. The following error messages occurs: KERNEL_SOURCE=/usr/src/linux make modules ... WARNING: Symbol version dump /usr/src/linux-2.6.8-24.10/Module.symvers is missing, modules will have CONFIG_MODVERSIONS disabled. CC [M] /usr/src/kernel-modules/drm/via_mm.o /bin/sh: scripts/genksyms/genksyms: No such file or directory make[2]: *** [/usr/src/kernel-modules/drm/via_mm.o] Error 1 make[1]: *** [_module_/usr/src/kernel-modules/drm] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.8-24.10' make: *** [modules] Error 2 ... Do you know what is the cause of the problem? Also, for the compiled and installed modules. However could I enable it? X.Org 6.8.2 RC2 RPMs for SuSE 9.2 available

Hi The X.Org Foundation is currently preparing a second maintenance release for version 6.8 of their implementation of the X Window System. The code is presently in the beta testing phase. SUSE will prepare update packages for the latest SUSE Linux version as soon as this release (6.8.2) becomes available. In our efforts to work closely with the X.Org Foundation to make their software even better we would like to invite those users of SUSE Linux who are interested in the X Window System to participate in this beta test. This will give the beta version of 6.8.2 a wider exposure, more testing and allow our users to identify and report problems on their hardware early so they may be fixed for the release. To simplify testing I've built X.Org 6.8.2 RC2 RPMs for SuSE 9.2 and uploaded them for download to ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/X/Xorg/Xorg-X11R6.8.2-RC2/ * Installation instructions can be found in the README (also in this directory). * In case something goes wrong and you need to revert to the original X.Org 6.8.1 RPMs for SuSE 9.2, simply remove the new RPMs with rpm -e <pkg-name> --nodeps and install the old ones from your DVD/CDs with rpm -Uhv <pkg-name> again (RPMs are in /suse/<arch> on the DVD/CD). ATI fglrx 3.14.6 & 8.8.25 don't allow screen switching in "laptop mode" on thinkpad T41p

missing mouse cursor

Have loaded Suse 9.2 with KDE desktop on Compaq R3240 laptop. The unit spends most of its time as a desktop hooked up to a remote 19" monitor and keyboard and mouse. The mouse appears and operates as normal on the laptop screen but does not appear on the remote (desktop) monitor. It functions on both screens as normal in all other ways, ie: buttons highlight when covered etc. You just can't see the mouse on the remote screen. How to fix this? I'm a user level guy and really stumped. Brock
