Hello guys , I have some queries regarding the naming of pages and I think I should speak my mind :-) . So 1) If the purpose of http://wiki.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Weekly_News is as a Team then it should be http://wiki.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Weekly_News_team 2) I feel instead of http://wiki.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Medical-Team it should be http://wiki.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Medical_team Thats all . [opensuse-wiki] EventCountdown extension.

We have one extension that doesn't appear in the list with other as it is missing that part of the code. It is: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:EventCountdown One sample you can find on http://wiki.opensuse.org/Portal:Factory . [opensuse-wiki] Moving weekly news to the new wiki

Hi, as you might already have heard, the wiki team is preparing a new english wiki at wiki.opensuse.org The plan is, to switch to the new wiki on June 1st, that means what currently is wiki.o.o will get en.o.o and the current en.o.o will stay at some legacy place for some time. It would be cool if you could help us (the wiki team) to move your weekly news related pages to the new wiki to make sure the transition works smoothly and there are no design regressions. The new weekly news mainpage would be at: http://wiki.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Weekly_news I suggest. Transition: The transfer guidelines[1] describe nicely how the transfer works, and the wiki portal[2] should include everything to know about the opensuse wiki. The main difference to the old wiki is a new namespace structure[3] which allows us to do proofreading on articles for the official distribution documentation and sdb. [opensuse-wiki] Wiki frontpage and support burnout

Today I had IRC discussion with Jonathan that pointed my attention on something that looks like support burnout. Probably not his and mine, but many more people. Push solutions for the problems to the top like nothing else exists is one of support burnout symptoms. He wanted support topic to be present on the main page more then it is (now it is mentioned 2 times), so he added http://wiki.opensuse.org/Portal:Support_database/Intro to the main page as topic "openSUSE Support" (which is visible as draft in a FlaggedRevs box). I disagree on SDB being presented as support and specially so prominent. I'm sure that we want to keep solution for irregularities apart from articles that promote what is good in openSUSE. Pushing all in SDB and presenting it like the first line help, out of regular documentation and support context, we present user with good and bad properties of their just acquired openSUSE, even if they look only for advice "how do I retouch red eyes". Problem is that they have no required background knowledge to give proper weight to the problem solution article presence and they can take that as a sign of serious deficiencies in the openSUSE. IMO, we should keep that out of their sight until they really have a problem to solve and look for support, not for documentation. Hi, going through the list of mediawiki extensions, I found some that might be useful for our new wiki, and that I would like to try out: - http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:VideoFlash allows us to embed videos from our youtube channel, and helps to move tube.o.o into the wiki - http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:SyntaxHighlight_GeSHi gives us syntax highlighting for included example code snippets - http://blog.bemoko.com/2008/06/28/bugzilla-reports-for-mediawiki/ Can include some Bugzilla data into wiki pages - http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:QPoll http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:SecurePoll Do we want to be able to do polls in the wiki? - http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Add_HTML_Meta_and_Title Can improve our pages for search engines - http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:CategoryWatch You can add a complete category to your watchlist, that might be useful when we have people taking responsibility for a category, for example 'Applications' - http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ShareThis Can notify social bookmarking sites about wiki pages - FATE connect (to be written) Could include feature title, state and product by writing for example <fate>23567</fate> in the wiki markup or dynamically include search results for features. [opensuse-wiki] Losing session data (bug?)

When I'm logged in one wiki and open some page in the other, mostly to delete spammer user page, when I press "Delete" nothing happens. As recently I have something new on the wiki.o.o (not tested in en.o.o). When I edit article and then want to save, server complains that it can't do that as it lost session data, but when I ask for preview screen first then it will save page. I think that this happens when I open new window and then try to edit some article. Today en.o.o refused to delete user page, and I went trough edit, show preview, then delete and deletion worked. [opensuse-wiki] "Support" and "Contact us"

I was looking to sort articles, and found some in "Category:Support channels", some in "Category:Contact us", which is good way to confuse people. Both are valid categories for the forums, mailing lists, IRC, as we offer them as contact to the other community members which provide interactive support. We can (and should) be more detailed in what parts user can expect support as #opensuse-chat on Freenode, for instance, is not a support. That is cleared in the article that is linked from Portal:Support , but not right there in the portal. As we have "Support" and "Contact" links in the left sidebar, because people expect to find that information on every web page I'll work next days to sort out what exactly is "support" and what "contact us", what is interactive and what one way (announce, broadcast, comments) type of information. Navigation field (or frame; not sure about correct term) should be placed always on the same spot that is almost impossible to miss. One option is current Navbar with small change in style to appear as part of the Bentofluid. See preview: http://wiki.opensuse.org/Template:Navbar_1 and http://wiki.opensuse.org/Portal:Support The other option is right column starting from the top of the page. Example you can see on the same Portal:Support. Why right column? On the top of the page we have global openSUSE navigation, left side column is current server navigation and, in case of the wiki, toolbox. For local article group, related links, list of topics covered with current article we can use right column. Additional benefit is that it will shrink content area (middle column) which will make it easier to read. Advantage of Template:Navbar is manual control of sort order, but at the same time that is disadvantage as any update is manual too. With tens of templates, one for each article group there will be some work to keep that up to date. Advantage of right column is that once set it will be automatically updated with new articles added to appropriate category, but there is limited ability to control sort order. What will be included in navigation depends on portal content, but in general there should be: * closely related content like "Support topics" or "Related" * wider group like "All portals" The site map links can be included at the end, just for user convenience, but they should lead to separate page.
