Hi,
progress got slower in November, but there were still some nice patches
done.
My https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Reproducible_openSUSE/Part2 is
pretty much finished now, even with a reproducible emacs (with some
extreme tricks for the LISP memory dump) and a reproducible VM image in
the 'altimagebuild' package -
https://hackweek.opensuse.org/24/projects/make-a-bit-reproducible-vm-image
The numbers look a bit bad this month. Maybe some unreproducible
packages were added into Factory.
Here are the autogenerated bits:
last month's status:
https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/factory@lists.opensuse.org/thread/…
Last months' reproducible builds project updates (including my work):
https://reproducible-builds.org/reports/2024-10/
I uploaded https://rb.zq1.de/compare.factory-20241129/ today
https://rb.zq1.de/spec/glossar.txt explains the meaning of below values:
total-packages: 15798 (-10)
build-tried: 15729 (-15)
build-failed: 25 (+7)
build-n-a: 175 (-3)
build-succeeded: 15529 (-19)
build-official-failed+na: 333 (-45)
build-compare-failed: 149 (+4)
build-compare-succeeded: 15380 (-23)
verify-failed: 307 (+52)
verified-semi-reproducible: 15044 (-68)
verified-bit-identical: 13271 (-489)
bit-by-bit-identical: 15284 (-24)
not-bit-by-bit-identical: 243 (+4)
not-bit-by-bit-identicalcheck: 245 (+5)
https://rb.zq1.de/compare.factory-20241129/graph.png
shows the change over time
https://rb.zq1.de/compare.factory-20241129/unreproduciblerings.txt
lists very unreproducible core packages (bootstrap+DVD)
Of the badly unreproducible packages,
3 were in ring0
20 were in ring1
That makes it 23/4043 => 0.57 %
which is below the overall average of
149/15529 => 0.96 %
243/15529 => 1.56 % of packages are not perfectly reproducible

- Update bundled dependencies:
* curl 8.10.1 -> 8.11.0
- New translation: Tagalog
==== openSUSE-release ====
Version update (20241127 -> 20241129)
Subpackages: openSUSE-release-appliance-custom openSUSE-release-dvd
- automatically generated by openSUSE-release-tools/pkglistgen
==== python-setuptools ====
Version update (72.1.0 -> 75.6.0)
- Skip over the tests which require network.
- Don't use pytest-xdist, it breaks test suite.
- update to 75.6.0:
* Preserve original PKG-INFO into METADATA when creating wheel
(instead of calling wheel.metadata.pkginfo_to_metadata). This
helps to be more compliant with the flow specified in PEP
517.
* Changed the WindowsSdkVersion, FrameworkVersion32 and
FrameworkVersion64 properties of setuptools.msvc.PlatformInfo
to return an empty tuple instead of None as a fallthrough
case -- by :user:`Avasam`
- update to 75.5.0:
* Removed support for
SETUPTOOLS_DANGEROUSLY_SKIP_PYPROJECT_VALIDATION, as it is
deemed prone to errors.
* Added support for the environment variable
SETUPTOOLS_DANGEROUSLY_SKIP_PYPROJECT_VALIDATION=true,
allowing users to bypass the validation of pyproject.toml.
This option should be used only as a last resort when
resolving dependency issues, as it may lead to improper
functioning. Users who enable this setting are responsible
for ensuring that pyproject.toml complies with setuptools
requirements. (#4611) Attention! This environment variable
was removed in a later version of setuptools.
* Require Python 3.9 or later. (#4718)
* Remove dependency on importlib_resources and the vendored
copy of the library. Instead, setuptools consistently rely on
stdlib's importlib.resources (available on Python 3.9+).
(#4718)
* Setuptools' bdist_wheel implementation no longer produces
wheels with the m SOABI flag (pymalloc-related). This flag
was removed on Python 3.8+ (see :obj:`sys.abiflags`). (#4718)
* Updated vendored packaging version to 24.2. (#4740)
* Merge with pypa/distutils@251797602, including fix for
dirutil.mkpath handling in pypa/distutils#304.
* Allowed using dict as an ordered type in
setuptools.dist.check_requirements -- by :user:`Avasam`
* Ensured methods in setuptools.modified preferably raise a
consistent distutils.errors.DistutilsError type (except in
the deprecated use case of SETUPTOOLS_USE_DISTUTILS=stdlib)
- - by :user:`Avasam`
* Fix the ABI tag when building a wheel using the debug build
of Python 3.13 on Windows. Previously, the ABI tag was
missing the "d" flag.
* Fix clashes for optional-dependencies in pyproject.toml and
extra_requires in setup.cfg/setup.py. As per PEP 621,
optional-dependencies have to be honoured and dynamic
behaviour is not allowed.
* #4560
* Made errors when parsing Distribution data more explicit
about the expected type (tuple[str, ...] | list[str]) -- by
:user:`Avasam`
* Fix a TypeError when a Distribution's old included attribute
was a tuple -- by :user:`Avasam`
* Add workaround for bdist_wheel --dist-info-dir errors when
customisation does not inherit from setuptools.
* Re-use pre-existing .dist-info dir when creating wheels via
the build backend APIs (PEP 517) and the metadata_directory
argument is passed -- by :user:`pelson`.
* Changed egg_info command to avoid adding an empty .egg-info
directory while iterating over entry-points. This avoids
triggering integration problems with
importlib.metadata/importlib_metadata (reference:
pypa/pyproject-hooks#206).
* Deprecated bdist_wheel.universal configuration.
* Removed reference to upload_docs module in entry points.
* Declare also the dependencies used by distutils (adds
jaraco.collections).
* Removed upload_docs command.
* Merge with pypa/distutils@7283751. Removed the register and
upload commands and the config module that backs them
(pypa/distutils#294). Removed the borland compiler. Replaced
vendored dependencies with natural dependencies. Cygwin C
compiler now gets compilers from sysconfig
(pypa/distutils#296).
* Fix cross-platform compilation using
distutils._msvccompiler.MSVCCompiler -- by :user:`saschanaz`
and :user:`Avasam`
* Fixed TypeError in sdist filelist processing by adding
support for pathlib Paths for the build_base.
* Removed degraded and deprecated test_integration
(easy_install) from the test suite.
* Fixed TypeError in msvc.EnvironmentInfo.return_env when no
runtime redistributables are installed.
* Added support for defining ext-modules via pyproject.toml
(EXPERIMENTAL, may change in future releases).
* Merge with pypa/distutils@3dcdf8567, removing the duplicate
vendored copy of packaging.
* Restored setuptools.msvc.Environmentinfo as it is used
externally.
* Changed the type of error raised by
setuptools.command.easy_install.CommandSpec.from_param on
unsupported argument from AttributeError to TypeError -- by
:user:`Avasam`
* Added detection of ARM64 variant of MSVC -- by
:user:`saschanaz`
* Made setuptools.package_index.Credential a typing.NamedTuple
- - by :user:`Avasam`
* Reraise error from setuptools.command.easy_install.auto_chmod
... changelog too long, skipping 42 lines ...
get_msvcr() (pypa/distutils#274).
==== python311-packaging ====
Version update (24.1 -> 24.2)
- update to 24.2:
* PEP 639: Implement License-Expression and License-File
(:issue:`828`)
* Use !r formatter for error messages with filenames
(:issue:`844`)
* Add support for PEP 730 iOS tags (:issue:`832`)
* Fix prerelease detection for > and < (:issue:`794`)
* Fix uninformative error message (:issue:`830`)
* Refactor canonicalize_version (:issue:`793`)
* Patch python_full_version unconditionally (:issue:`825`)
* Fix doc for canonicalize_version to mention strip_trailing_zero
and a typo in a docstring (:issue:`801`)
* Fix typo in Version __str__ (:issue:`817`)
* Support creating a SpecifierSet from an iterable of Specifier
objects (:issue:`775`)
==== unbound ====
Subpackages: libunbound8 unbound-anchor
- add workaround for bug
https://github.com/NLnetLabs/unbound/issues/509
Starting up with 127.0.0.1 in the /etc/resolv.conf leads to long
delays if the anchor update is being run as ExecStartPre in the

==== webkit2gtk3 ====

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,
After hackweek, we see a bunch of nifty changes coming our way. I have
not seen everything by far, but there is at least a replacement for
openSUSE-welcome planned on the GNOME Desktop (a variant of GNOME
Tour), Lubos has just announced a new migration tool and there will
certainly be many more things popping up in the next few days/weeks.
During the last week, we have managed to deliver six snapshots (1121,
1122, 1124, 1125, 1126, and 1127)
The most relevant changes delivered are:
* Mesa 24.2.7 & 24.3.0
* ICU 76.1
* gpgme 1.24.0
* GTK 4.16.6 & 4.16.7
* LLVM 19.1.4
* PHP 8.3.14
* CMake 3.31.0
* GNOME 47.2
* KDE Plasma 6.2.4
* Qt 5.15.16
* Debugedit 5.1
Amongst the initially mentioned changes, we are currently also testing
these updates in the Factory Staging areas:
* Mozilla Firefox 133.0
* LibreOffice 24.8.3.2
* Python setuptools 75.6
* systemd 257
* SQLite 3.47.1
* Linux kernel 6.12.1
Cheers,
Dominique

Hello Factory!
Let me introduce you to a new package opensuse-migration-tool.
https://build.opensuse.org/requests/1227346
Marcela Maslanova and I spent part of the hackweek working on a
replacement tool for yast-migration-sle which was used to migrate
systems from Leap to SLES.
Context:
As you might be aware SLES 16 / Leap 16 will have a very much reduced
yast stack and yast-migration-sle will eventually go away.
Some YaST modules could be turned into standalone apps, which we'd
like to keep in Leap 16.0. A big shout out to Stefan for his work on
yast software installation, which I consider a must-have for users
from another distribution.
https://hackweek.opensuse.org/24/projects/yqpkg-bringing-the-single-package…
We took it a bit further with the migration tool and looked into
cross-distro migrations (within openSUSE) as well as point release
upgrades utilizing openSUSE-repos for repository migration and
https://get.opensuse.org/api/v0/distributions.json to get info about
point releases.
https://hackweek.opensuse.org/24/projects/new-migration-tool-for-leap
The tool itself doesn't make much sense to be executed on Tumbleweed
as you can't get any newer, and any other migration target would be
considered a version downgrade.
This is more or less what should "generally" work.
Leap -> Leap n+1, Leap -> SLES, Leap -> Tumbleweed, Leap -> Slowroll
Leap Micro -> Leap Micro n+1, Leap Micro -> MicroOS
Slowroll -> Tumbleweed
The tool is very experimental and should not be used in production
until we have rollback functionality, good openqa coverage, etc. But
since it's written in bash it's super easy to contribute to and
development and testing in distrobox saves you time by installing VMs
(see examples in README).
Any contributions or issues/suggestions in
https://github.com/openSUSE/opensuse-migration-tool are highly
welcome!

Hi everybody,
I'd like to introduce a new package to Factory, named obs-service-
elixir_mix_deps. It's a new source service meant to simplify dependency
vendorization for Elixir application. I hope this will make packaging
Elixir (or at least mix-based) applications a little bit easier.
https://github.com/openSUSE/obs-service-elixir_mix_deps
Cheers,
Alessio

Hi there,
Today's update using 'zypper dup' immediately reboots and the machine
hangs "forever" (AMD Ryzen 7 PRO, KDE Plasma 6.2.3 with Wayland). Seems
to be related to the
posttrans(dracut-059+suse.665.gd2af7028-1.1.x86_64) script.
Anyone else seeing this? Any idea? Thx.
Regards, Frank

==== tree ====
Version update (2.1.3 -> 2.2.1)
- update to 2.2.1
* Fix regression where I free a pointer that should not have been freed due
to a variable renaming that wasn't completed. (Daniel Li / Landon Bourma)
* Put back, in a modified form, HTML href directory path fixing that was
removed in 2.1.2. If the "baseHREF" part after the -H begins with a dash
(-), the dash is removed and the lead directory name is removed from the
href, otherwise it is left as-is. It can be very difficult to know how to
handle the host and directory part given the plethora of protocols and
what-not, so hopefully this should give enough control over that to suit
most requirements.
Version 2.2.0 (11/24/2024)
* Add option --opt-toggle which turns on the ability to toggle options such
as -a, -p, etc. Useful to add to an alias for turning an option off when
using said alias. (Christoph Anton Mitterer)
* Add --hyperlink option to print OSC 8 terminal hyperlinks for files. Also
adds the --scheme and --authority options to modify the schema and hostname/
authority of the links. (Nicolai Dagestad)
OSC 8 Terminal hyperlinks:
https://gist.github.com/egmontkob/eb114294efbcd5adb1944c9f3cb5feda
* Maybe finally fix JSON error reporting when unable to open a directory and a
full tree is required, such as when using --du. (Alchemyst@github)
* Fix small rounding error in human readable size (-h) output, where 9.99K is
rounded to 10.0K rather than 10K (Ivan Ivanovich)
* Fix the totals report for sizes when --du option is used. The directory
size total was correct, but the final report was an accumulation of all
the directory totals rather than just the top most directory total.
(Alchemyst@github)
* Add .gitignore file to distribution for those wanting that. (Kenta Arai)
* Add 'none' as a valid --sort option (i.e. -U).
* Add ability to cross compile for Android (freemedom@github)
* List charsets again if --charsets is not given an argument.
* Allow --help and usage to use ANSI bold and italic if colorization is
enabled.
* General code cleanups:
- Removed unused externs where possible.
- Clean up some warnings issued by -Wextra (Kenta Arai)
- Update Makefile to allow CC and the CFLAGS -O3 option to be overridden,
move CPPFLAGS into their own variable, add -Wstrict-prototypes
(David Seifert)
- Long over-due move to stdbool.h, removes custom bool type and changes all
occurrences of TRUE/FALSE to true/false. (David Seifert / others) This
likely makes C99+ even more of a requirement now. Please let me know if
this requires a work-around for your system.
- Went ahead and added -Wconversion to the Makefile as well. This required a
large number of type conversion fixing which may have unexpected side
effects, but should hopefully help with tree safely dealing with absurd
sizes/number of things in the future as this promotes using size_t more.
This probably needs more work to do properly however.
- Apply the const constraint on parameter strings wherever possible.

==== xdm ====
- Split out displaymanager-sycconfig package: The central
configuration part that is used by all display managers. This is
needed in order to progress towards 'xdm' not acting as wrapper
around DMs, but only be used as Dislplay Manager when XDM is
supposed to be used, or use the real systemd services of the
various DMs (e.g gdm.service, sddm.service).
