Hi,
With some really cool hardware and software coming out in the XR
(Virtual and Augmented Reality) space, I was working on adapting some
of the existing packages in the home projects of various people and
building some of my own, to be able to try out monado and xrdesktop
with my headset and controllers.
I would like to have this work published in some project on OBS, for
single point of contributions and, for some packages, inclusion in
Factory in the future. Something like gnome-shell-xrdesktop sounds
unlikely to be accepted, since it's a patch on top of the existing
gnome-shell, but we should be just fine including monado and
kwin-effect-xrdesktop in Factory to make using headsets on the openSUSE
distros' desktop a little bit easier.
I would say hardware:xr sounds like the best place for it, but I don't
think it particularly matters what it ends up being called. Would it be
possible to create a project like that?

Shall we consider yast2-firstboot.
Richard: the system facing stuff works well in yast2-firsboot, but the
desktop part not so much (language for GNOME).
SUMA demo - at the moment, there are two major issues in SUMA. okta
integration and availability for public internet.
(upstream https://github.com/uyuni-project/)

Rado: Management of devices need to be integated with OKTA. In case
SUSE IT will not find any other solution, SUMA and feature integration
sounds like a way to go.
## Leap

docs are finally published (Lukas now knows how to fully do it!
Previously dependent on Frank being around)
Leap 15.5: Maybe we could reactivate openSUSE:Leap:15.5 to collect

## openSUSE Tumbleweed
openSUSE:Factory build fail stats: N/A failed, N/A unresolvable (last
week: 383/12)
https://tinyurl.com/ysy4nnnz
* KDE Gear 22.04.2 and KDE Plasma 5.25 have been released into
Tumbleweed during the last week, Frameworks 5.95.0 is in Staging
* Switch for python 3.10 as main interpreter has been executed:
Snapshot 0614 got the package and project config changes. Build in
progress. As the python interpreter is so deeply nested, rebuild
strategy was changed from 'local' (only build package which was checked
in) to 'direct' (rebuild things with changed build deps). This will
result in a quite large update (almost as bug as a full gcc12 rebuild,
also due to FORTIFY_SOURCE=3 now being used in all packages, which we
did not trigger a full rebuild for)
* SELinux 3.4 is in Staging:C - breaks a few image builds using kiwi;
not clear yet if kiwi or SELinux is at fault
GPG Key to sign packages/repos is planned to be updated to be a
4096/RSA key (implementation schedule pending)
Tracker bug : https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1199184
## Richard (MicroOS)
Winding down the Kubic project.
kubic.opensuse.org has been removed/archived, domain still used by
Tumbleweed/MicroOS kubeadm packages for version upgrades
MicroOS/Kubic patterns partially tidied up, completion WIP
Kubernetes 1.24 still in holding while the kubic winddown fallout and
tidying up is done, 1.24.1 will be expected when it's submitted
Resurrecting my MicroOS btrfs send/resc research project to see if it's
now more viable as a transactional image update than Thorsten Kukuk's
TIU experiment
MicroOS Desktop abandoning use of packagekit/pkcon/tukit installation
methods due to lack of maintenance/bug fixes, expect an update to
revert to using transactional-update by default.
Tumbleweed will be getting SLE-BCI-like containers.
Dirk: Are we changing the name? Richard: I haven't figured out the
tagging convention yet.
Dirk: The name should distinguish, not only the registry, but also the
organizational part and the name.
Richard: Yes but..if the bci language containers (eg nodejs, golang,
etc) are equal/better than the old non-bci language containers, we
might as well harmonise on doing everything the bci way in an opensuse/
container namespace rather than making a seperate bci/ namespace.
Technically we could do it (we have a kubic/ one seperate from the
opensuse/ one) but that doesn't mean it's a good idea.
Dirk: what about a tumbleweed/ namespace/naming convention?
Richard: All official openSUSE container efforts are using only
tumbleweed bases, with the exception of the Leap container which we
dont use as a base for anything, dont advertise, and would delete if we
had anyone willing to do the extra work to delete it...but as we dont,
it'll stay around until the end of Leap after 15.5
Richard: so based on this discussion, I assume everything will end up
in the official registry.opensuse.org/opensuse/ namespace, unless we
find a reason to not
lkocman: Jose L. works on PoC for openqa.opensuse.org testing for ALP
will be based on the current MicroOS test suite. I believe that
expectation is that contributions would be backported to "upstream" by
default. That was not always the case for SLE -> Leap etc.
## Max
* Preparing some improvements for the next release. Filing tickets for
the openSUSE-release-process github repo
* Locked Leap and Backports project
* Raspberry Pi USB Boot problems
* We could track it as a known issue in RN (Otherwise it's already
listed in Raspberry PI HCL section on wiki)
* Candidate for 15.4 QU1 respin is ^ as well as the wlan0 issue
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1186677
## Guillaume - Arm
Tumbleweed:
Same as last week
* llvm9 has been dropped from Factory, but ghc-bootstrap still
requires it for aarch64 and armv6/7:
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1199897
* Last Kubic DVD iso built is still available at
http://download.opensuse.org/ports/aarch64/tumbleweed/iso/
lkocman: Do we need to change something at get-o-o regarding
kubic?
Dimstar: Richard was busy :-) So nothing to do
Leap 15.4:
* armv7:
Same as last week
* Enlightenment package not built before the lock of the
project (was still failing in rpmlint check due to a missing
whitelist). maybe provide it via update channel?
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1194047
Has to be already a maintenance update.
Leap Micro 5.2:
No Updates this week
* Default-SelfInstall: still some issues in openQA:
https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/110845 (works locally)
openQA: WIP to add aio (and maybe cache) option(s) to qemu backend to
try to enhance performances, similar to what Dirk enabled on OBS
workers
## Sarah - s390
Not Available
All maven issues related to s390x are fixed.
A new OpenJDK 17 is available for testing. If all is ok, then we can
make it as a default.
s390-tools are updated.
Tumbleweed:
* Is rolling
openSUSE Leap 15.4:
* no issues
We had a nice team meeting at the conference (incl. a Power guy for an
IBM technology meeting). :)
## Doug

## Wolfgang (Package Hub), Scott Bahling
SLE 12 SP5 PH request to add supervisor
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1200415
Scott: lack of policy checking into Backports submission
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1199841
Document the process for 15.5 and also ALP (once related).
Max: compared to the Leap before CtLG, orgin manager(formerly leaper)
replacement is missing
opensuse-reviews are still happening for Leap 15.4 top level project
(but this project lacks other staging reviews)
Backports has most of reviews implemented, but is missing the opensuse-
reviews involved via origin-manager or leaper.
Dominique: please do not just enable opensuse-reviewer for all of the
reviews, it's pretty much just me. We need to find resources first.
Scott: the original idea was let's just inherit from Factory, we assume
that it's already there. If it happens to deviate from factory, then
backport-reviewers would have a look.
Perhaps we need to document and "follow the policy" even more.
Max: this is problematic as we're receveing a lot of Leap and/or
Backports specific fixes.
Looking into a issue where mirror admins reported growing size of Leap
/ Backports.
Adrian and Wolfgang are looking into that.
Adrian: addition of mirroring of SP4:GA, for some days some
architectures were behind and we've had doubled amount of noarch
packages. It's expected behavior. Project will be frozen soon.
Marcus: Did we do version updates for 15.4 from Factory. We did that in
around Alpha phase.
Marcus: some of the SP3:Updates were not picked up by Package HUB -
SP4.
Dirk: I also noticed some overriden versions from SP3.
Lubos will check with Wolfgang on this one. Marcus did not see the
usual review requests.
Max we will need to either revive factory source checker or leaper
checker
## Maintenance team (Marina or Marcus, Maurizio (m4u))
Leap Micro 5.2 update channel was mentioned above.
No integration tests in place. The only concern is about rpm dependency
issues.
lkocman will look into product rebuild asap.
15.4 Update openQA was setup this week
Staff is moving as usual. Stuff? or is the staff physically moving to
new SUSE building? ;-)
- Marcus: 15.4 is set up channel wise, updates will go in testing
occasionaly, if you need more ping me, no openqa setup yet
lkocman: could you please help me with cleanup of maintenance tasks in
https://progress.opensuse.org/projects/opensuse-leap-15-4/issues/gantt
lkocman: will contact Jan Stehlik. Santi (PO for the topic) mentioned
he'll work on it.
lkocman: messaged Jan
Jan confirmed with me that they're on it.
lkocman: (still pending) will open a release notes entry for a change
Security Advisory identification
TODO Marcus: could you give me example of old and new values?
- Marina and Maurizio: SLE-PackageHub overlaps
(https://github.com/openSUSE/openSUSE-release-process/issues/71) work
in progress following the initial list of overlapping packages
(https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/106610#note-3) More incidents
are under QA. Work is going on and under control (and tracked
internally as jsc#MSC-303).

Somehow, I had enough privilege to delete the project, but not enough to
recreate it from openSUSE:Factory/virtualbox. I would appreciate some help.

The last message on the switch to python310 was back on 04/09/2022 which indicated that the switch might happen on Monday which would have been 04/11.
It has been a month since then and I have not seen any update or mention of it.
Is there an update on the switch to python310 or an estimated ETA ?
Thanks!

Version update (2.4.53 -> 2.4.54)
- update httpd-framework to svn revision 1898917
- version update to 2.4.54
Changes with Apache 2.4.54
* ) SECURITY: CVE-2022-31813: mod_proxy X-Forwarded-For dropped by
hop-by-hop mechanism (cve.mitre.org)
Apache HTTP Server 2.4.53 and earlier may not send the
X-Forwarded-* headers to the origin server based on client side
Connection header hop-by-hop mechanism.
This may be used to bypass IP based authentication on the origin
server/application.
Credits: The Apache HTTP Server project would like to thank
Gaetan Ferry (Synacktiv) for reporting this issue
* ) SECURITY: CVE-2022-30556: Information Disclosure in mod_lua with
websockets (cve.mitre.org)
Apache HTTP Server 2.4.53 and earlier may return lengths to
applications calling r:wsread() that point past the end of the
storage allocated for the buffer.
Credits: The Apache HTTP Server project would like to thank
Ronald Crane (Zippenhop LLC) for reporting this issue
* ) SECURITY: CVE-2022-30522: mod_sed denial of service
(cve.mitre.org)
If Apache HTTP Server 2.4.53 is configured to do transformations
with mod_sed in contexts where the input to mod_sed may be very
large, mod_sed may make excessively large memory allocations and
trigger an abort.
Credits: This issue was found by Brian Moussalli from the JFrog
Security Research team
* ) SECURITY: CVE-2022-29404: Denial of service in mod_lua
r:parsebody (cve.mitre.org)
In Apache HTTP Server 2.4.53 and earlier, a malicious request to
a lua script that calls r:parsebody(0) may cause a denial of
service due to no default limit on possible input size.
Credits: The Apache HTTP Server project would like to thank
Ronald Crane (Zippenhop LLC) for reporting this issue
* ) SECURITY: CVE-2022-28615: Read beyond bounds in
ap_strcmp_match() (cve.mitre.org)
Apache HTTP Server 2.4.53 and earlier may crash or disclose
information due to a read beyond bounds in ap_strcmp_match()
when provided with an extremely large input buffer. While no
code distributed with the server can be coerced into such a
call, third-party modules or lua scripts that use
ap_strcmp_match() may hypothetically be affected.
Credits: The Apache HTTP Server project would like to thank
Ronald Crane (Zippenhop LLC) for reporting this issue
* ) SECURITY: CVE-2022-28614: read beyond bounds via ap_rwrite()
(cve.mitre.org)
The ap_rwrite() function in Apache HTTP Server 2.4.53 and
earlier may read unintended memory if an attacker can cause the
server to reflect very large input using ap_rwrite() or
ap_rputs(), such as with mod_luas r:puts() function.

against bsc#1186819 (CVE-2021-3572).
- Recover again proper value of %python2_package_prefix
(bsc#1175619).
- BuildRequire rpm-build-python: The provider to inject python(abi)
has been moved there. rpm-build pulls rpm-build-python
automatically in when building anything against python3-base, but
this implies that the initial build of python3-base does not
trigger the automatic installation.
- Older SLE versions should use old OpenSSL.
- Add CVE-2022-0391-urllib_parse-newline-parsing.patch
(bsc#1195396, CVE-2022-0391, bpo#43882) sanitizing URLs
containing ASCII newline and tabs in urlparse.
- Add CVE-2021-4189-ftplib-trust-PASV-resp.patch (bsc#1194146,
bpo#43285, CVE-2021-4189, gh#python/cpython#24838) make ftplib
not trust the PASV response.
- build against openssl 1.1.x (incompatible with openssl 3.0x)
for now.
- on sle12, python2 modules will still be called python-xxxx until EOL,
for newer SLE versions they will be python2-xxxx
- BuildRequire rpm-build-python: The provider to inject python(abi)
has been moved there. rpm-build pulls rpm-build-python
automatically in when building anything against python3-base, but
this implies that the initial build of python3-base does not
trigger the automatic installation.
- Add CVE-2019-20907_tarfile-inf-loop.patch fixing bsc#1174091
(CVE-2019-20907, bpo#39017) avoiding possible infinite loop
in specifically crafted tarball.

CVE-2019-20916) in their correct form (bsc#1180686).
- Add CVE-2020-26116-httplib-header-injection.patch fixing bsc#1177211
(CVE-2020-26116, bpo#39603) no longer allowing special characters in
the method parameter of HTTPConnection.putrequest in httplib, stopping
injection of headers. Such characters now raise ValueError.
- Renamed patch for assigned CVE:
* bpo44022-fix-http-client-infinite-line-reading-after-a-HTTP-100-Continue.patch ->
CVE-2021-3737-fix-HTTP-client-infinite-line-reading-after-a-HTTP-100-Continue.patch

encoding to prevent them from overflowing into to content
section of the encoded file. This prevents malicious or
accidental modification of data during the decoding process.
- Fixes a ReDoS vulnerability in `http.cookiejar`. Patch by Ben
Caller.
- Fixed line numbers and column offsets for AST nodes for calls
without arguments in decorators.

hostnames in http.client. Such potentially malicious header
injection URLs now cause a InvalidURL to be raised.

with zipfile library. (bsc#1162825 CVE-2019-9674)
- Change to Requires: libpython%{so_version} == %{version}-%{release}
to python-base to keep both packages always synchronized (add
%{so_version}) (bsc#1162224).

"Python urrlib allowed an HTTP server to conduct Regular
Expression Denial of Service (ReDoS)" (bsc#1162367)
- Provide python-testsuite from devel subkg to ease py2->py3
dependencies
- Add python-2.7.17-switch-off-failing-SSL-tests.patch to switch
off tests coliding with the combination of modern Python and
ancient OpenSSL on SLE-12.
- libnsl is required only on more recent SLEs and openSUSE, older
glibc supported NIS on its own.
- Add provides in gdbm subpackage to provide dbm symbols. This
allows us to use %%{python_module dbm} as a dependency and have
it properly resolved for both python2 and python3
- Drop appstream-glib BuildRequires and no longer call
appstream-util validate-relax: eliminate a build cycle between
as-glib and python. The only thing would would gain by calling
as-uril is catching if upstream breaks the appdata.xml file in a
future release. Considering py2 is dying, chances for a new
release, let alone one breaking the xml file, are slim.
- Unify packages among openSUSE:Factory and SLE versions.

- Set _lto_cflags to nil as it will prevent to propage LTO
for Python modules that are built in a separate package.
- bsc#1130840 (CVE-2019-9947): add CVE-2019-9947-no-ctrl-char-http.patch
Address the issue by disallowing URL paths with embedded

CVE-2018-14647_XML_SetHashSalt-in_elementtree.patch fixing
bpo-34623.
- bsc#1073748: add bpo-29347-dereferencing-undefined-pointers.patch
PyWeakref_NewProxy(a)Objects/weakrefobject.c creates new isntance
of PyWeakReference struct and does not intialize wr_prev and
wr_next of new isntance. These pointers can have garbage and
point to random memory locations.
Python should not crash while destroying the isntance created
in the same interpreter function. As per my understanding, both
wr_prev and wr_next of PyWeakReference instance should be
initialized to NULL to avoid segfault.
- bsc#1122191: add CVE-2019-5010-null-defer-x509-cert-DOS.patch
fixing bpo-35746 (CVE-2019-5010).
An exploitable denial-of-service vulnerability exists in the
X509 certificate parser of Python.org Python 2.7.11 / 3.7.2.
A specially crafted X509 certificate can cause a NULL pointer
dereference, resulting in a denial of service. An attacker can
initiate or accept TLS connections using crafted certificates
to trigger this vulnerability.

Dear Package maintainers and hackers.
Below package(s) in openSUSE:Factory have had problems for at
least 4 weeks. We tried to send out notifications to the
configured bugowner/maintainers of the package(s), but so far no
fix has been submitted. This probably means that the
maintainer/bugowner did not yet find the time to look into the
matter and he/she would certainly appreciate help to get this
sorted.
- python-social-auth-core: Unresolvable
Unless somebody is stepping up and submitting fixes, the listed
package(s) are going to be removed from openSUSE:Factory.
Kind regards,
DimStar / Dominique Leuenberger <dimstar(a)opensuse.org>

Hi,
I'm building a package locally with osc build.
My package installs a directory in /usr/share (and all the files it
contains, recursively), specified like this in the %files section:
%files
...
%{_datadir}/%{name}
For some reason I cannot comprehend, rpmlint complains that /usr/share
is not own by a package, and fails the build:
[ 51s] blargh.rpm: directories not owned by a package:
[ 51s] - /usr/share
/usr/share is a system folder I believed owned by the system, so why is
it complaining ?
I tried adding %dir %{_datadir}, but this does not fix it and should not
be necessary.
Is rpmlint acting up ?

* The NAMES list is now hidden by default if there are more
than 18 users on the channel (an#7)
To revert to the previous behaviour
/SET show_names_on_join_limit -1
* -tls_verify is now enabled by default (#1170, an#18, #1309,
an#23, #1343, #1351)
This may cause an ugly display of notls_verify in the output
of /SERVER LIST, even on plain-text connection, on old
configs. Kindly remove the "tls_verify = "no";" entries from
your config file manually.
* Irssi will now attempt STARTTLS if advertised (#1170, #1312,
an#19)
Use -disallow_starttls if you absolutely do not want this
In order to check for a STARTTLS advertisement, Irssi will
now wait for a response (even an error) to CAP LS 302. If
your bouncer/server does not want to communicate before
receiving USER/PASS at all, use -nocap to disable the CAP
check.
* Channel sync requests (WHO, MODE) are now sent "later" than
user commands. This should improve responsiveness to user
commands in the autojoin phase (an#26, an#32, an#33)
* Irssi is now using full paths in #include directives and
consequently does not add all directories to the include
path anymore (#1040)
* The Build System was ported to Meson (#1064, #1065, #1068,
[#1071], #1072, #1073, #1074, #1075, #1084, #1085, #1118, #1166,
[#1223], #1224, #1245, #1313, #1314, an#31)
* Scriptassist was changed to use a YAML database (#1163)
It will tell you when you need to update your setting
* /BIND shows all partial matches (#1155)
* Cleanup of unused functions (#1017, #1132, #1145, #1182,
[#1246], #1264)
Functions removed:
NET_CALLBACK
NET_HOST_CALLBACK
RESOLVED_NAME_REC
net_gethostbyaddr_nonblock
net_connect_nonblock
[ SIMPLE_THREAD_REC, simple_init, simple_readpipe ]
hash_save_key
Functions deprecated:
dec2octal
g_timeval_cmp
get_timeval_diff
Function names corrected:
g_input -> i_input
g_istr -> i_istr
g_io_channel -> i_io_channel
g_hash_free_value -> i_hash_free_value
remove g_free_true
gslist -> i_slist
glog_func -> i_log_func
glist -> i_list
