Replace pulseaudio with pipewire as default audio server

Hello, It's been a while since pipewire has been available and some of us have even been using it for months without problems, so I'd like to propose to make it the default audio server in new Tumbleweed installations, replacing pulseaudio. Pipewire provides capture and playback of audio/video streams with minimal latency, compatibility layers with pulseaudio, jack, etc., integration with xdg-desktop-portal, really good bluetooth audio support, etc. I've already talked with Takashi Iwai and Ondrej Holecek (pulseaudio maintainers) and they support this change. If nobody has a very good argument against it, I'll do the change in the next days to install pipewire instead of pulseaudio by default on new installations. So please, reply to this mail if you have any thoughts about this. Btw, existing installations will not be modified automatically and users would have to install the wireplumber-audio package manually to perform the equivalent change. Of course, this only applies to Tumbleweed, not SLE/Leap. -- Antonio Larrosa

[RFC] Dropping support for legacy persistent storage symlinks

Hi, udev has some code to keep backward compatibility with systems that might have been initialized with persistent storage symlinks (those located in /dev/disk/by-*) which later were considered broken or not accurate enough and thereby were renamed in order to have more reliable names. This is actually done by udev rules file /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/61-persistent-storage-compat.rules. First of all if your system has /usr/lib/udev/compat-symlink-generation file installed and its content is "COMPAT_SYMLINK_GENERATION=2" then you can stop reading the rest of this email as your system is not affected at all. Otherwise it would be nice to check whether your system is relying on compat symlinks by booting with the following option appended to the kernel command line: "udev.compat_symlink_generation=0". If your system still boots and behaves as expected then your system probably doesn't rely on legacy symlinks. Otherwise if your system doesn't boot properly with this option set then it likely means that some of your system config files (such as /etc/fstab) have references to one of these legacy symlinks. To help finding and fixing them, reboot with the previous boot option removed and try to run the bash script available in the following git repo: https://github.com/fbuihuu/find-legacy-symlinks. Running the script (it doesn't take neither option nor argument) should list the legacy symlinks generated by udev and should tell whether they're included in either /etc/fstab or /etc/crypttab. In case you need help to get rid of these symlinks, please open a bug report and assign it to "systemd-maintainers(a)suse.de". Thanks.

Different file systems may list directories in different order, and with this change we ensure that client code eager loads consistently across platforms, for example. * Before this release, subdirectories of root directories always represented namespaces (unless ignored or collapsed). From now on, to be considered namespaces they also have to contain at least one non-ignored Ruby file with extension `.rb`, directly or recursively. If you know beforehand a certain directory or directory pattern does not represent a namespace, it is intentional and more efficient to tell Zeitwerk to [ignore](https://github.com/fxn/zeitwerk#ignoring-parts-of-the-project) it. However, if you don't do so and have a directory `tasks` that only contains Rake files, arguably that directory is not meant to represent a Ruby module. Before, Zeitwerk would define a top-level `Tasks` module after it; now, it does not. This feature is also handy for projects that have directories with auxiliary resources mixed in the project tree in a way that is too dynamic for an ignore pattern to be practical. See https://github.com/fxn/zeitwerk/issues/216. In the unlikely case that an existing project has an empty directory for the sole purpose of defining a totally empty module (no code, and no nested classes or modules), such module has now to be defined in a file. Directories are scanned again on reloads. * On setup, loaders created with `Zeitwerk::Loader.for_gem` issue warnings if `lib` has extra, non-ignored Ruby files or directories. This is motivated by existing gems with directories under `lib` that are not meant to define Ruby modules, like directories for Rails generators, for instance. This warning can be silenced in the unlikely case that the extra stuff is actually autoloadable and has to be managed by Zeitwerk.
