I see that gcc8 is no longer available (except as a cross compiler). I missed that. I did not have it locked on my system. I use gcc8 with the NVIDIA NVCC compiler. NVCC is rather picky about which gcc version it will use. The docs have always suggested gcc8, and that has been working for me. Is there a repository where gcc8 is still available? I did a search in openSUSE and did not find anything. -- Roger Oberholtzer

Do we want Leap testing or not? Dirk: I do attempt to have all the overlays removed in next few days in the Step project. The main obstacle is the kernel. Team seems to be unable to add armv7 configs, which means we can't building. If we can find workaround for this problem then the rest can be solved. Adrian: we still have to figure out how to ship maintenance updates. And we have to figure out how to auto-rebuild updates for SUSE:SLE-15, backports parts will be handled in a "standard way". Is this the way we want to go? Dirk: I don't have resources for the maintenance stream. Adrian: I have to check on patchinfo. We'd rebuild maintenance release project, that's not the case in the other setups. Adrian: we could still do layering in the Leap project itself.

Take mumps as the example, we should disable gnu-mpich- hpc/gnu-mvapich2-hpc/gnu-mvapich3-hpc/ gnu-mvapich4-hpc flavor completely, leave other flavor as it is. Another example librepository[2], just delete it since it’s noarch only(BuildArch: noarch) package. Pro: solve noarch binary issue Con: PackageHub would not providing some packages for all archs. *noarch* package is fine, but *arch-dependent + noarch* will losing since the package removal, for example libmumps-gnu-openmpi4-hpc-5.3.5- bp153.1.1.ppc64le.rpm in [1] This may increase amount of open bugs from customer side such as “Package is no longer available in Backports”. Right now we have to build same srpms twice and figure out the magic. Proving them from subpackage module (repository for unrelease packages from SLE) instead(SLE built). Pro: solve noarch binary issue. Adrian: we have to create an additional channel (subpackages already exist, we just need to modify it). Max: will work on the list of packages that will have to be added to the subpackage module. Gdm: GdmDisplay: Session never registered, failing

Hi, On a recent system (Ryzen5 / NVidia Gtx1650) that I just updated to latest tumbleweed updates, I am now unable to login in gdm. The gdm login screen is displayed fine, and I can select my user and type the password which is correctly accepted. But after 1 or 2 seconds I am back on gdm login From what I could find in journactl, the corresponding error message is Gdm: GdmDisplay: Session never registered, failing I tried a couple of tricks (switch back to nouveau driver... run dracut again...) but I have not found so far how to fix it. thanks Paul

We tried to send out notifications to the configured bugowner/maintainers of the package(s), but so far no fix has been submitted. Fixing games:ogre and imgui

Hello, I am trying to fix https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/games/ogre. It appears that it requires new dependency : imgui which currently not available in Factory. Yesterday I asked this question in IRC and was advised to aggregate imgui into games. This leads to two new problems : 1. "osc aggregatepac devel:libraries:c_c++ imgui games" - gives me 403 so I will need to ask someone to aggreagte it because AFAIK you can not create MR as aggregate request , right ? 2. "osc aggregatepac devel:libraries:c_c++ imgui home:asmorodskyi:branches:games" - works but package is broken "missing repositories: devel:libraries:c_c++/openSUSE_Tumbleweed". And it is because devel:libraries:c_c++ imgui does not have openSUSE_Tumbleweed target. Again I can not create MR for project config , right ? So how should I proceed with : - request to aggregate package to project which I am not own - request to add build target to package which I am not own Or maybe I am just doing something totally wrong ? P.S. Tumbleweed - Review of weeks 2021/13 & 14

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers, Dominique has been enjoying a vacation these last two weeks and left Tumbleweed in my hands. Thanks to all who’ve helped out as I got to grips with holding the reins solo for the first time. These two weeks also saw the long Easter weekend. That said, we still managed to release 5 snapshots (0325, 0329, 0330, 0401 and 0406) during this fortnight, with 0408 currently in testing and an 0409 likely to be checked in tonight. The changes delivered these weeks included: * SELinux 3.2 (now also used by default in MicroOS) * transactional-update 3.3.4 * A large amount of YaST updates * Mozilla Firefox 87.0 * git 2.31.1 * kernel 5.11.11 * Mesa 20.3.5 with a large number of fixes * MicroOS GNOME Desktop reaching [BETA] quality The future, near or far, will bring those updates: * systemd v246.13 with cgroupsv2 enabled by default (Currently being tested in 0408) * libvirt 7.2.0 (Currently being tested in 0408) * GNOME 40 (Currently being needled, hopefully will be included in 0409) * KDE Plasma 5.21.4 * LibreOffice 7.1.2.2 * nodejs 15.14.0 * gstreamer 1.18.4 * Further MicroOS GNOME Desktop improvements * Python 3.9 modules: besides python36-FOO and python38-FOO, we are testing to also shop python39-FOO modules; we already have the interpreter after all. Python 3.8 will remain the default for now. * UsrMerge is progressing well, thanks to Ludwig for his continued work here * GCC 10.3.0 * GCC 11 as the default compiler Have a lot of fun! – Richard

New subpackage for systemd: systemd-experimental

Hi all, after we frequently get requests to enable new systemd-features we currently can not maintain on our own for various reasons (e.g. other default-tools on openSUSE, missing system-integration, not enough knowledge about the technology, or simply the feature isn't stable by upstream yet), we have decided to create a new sub-package "systemd-experimental" to make those features still available for interested users. Initially, this package will contain: - homed (Home Area/User Account Manager) - pstore (A service to archive contents of pstore) - repart (Automatically grow and add partitions) - userdb (JSON User/Group Record Support) And with 248, which should come soonish, it's planned to add: - sysext (Merge, unmerge, list, and refresh system extension hierarchies) - oomd (A userspace out-of-memory (OOM) killer) The plan is to ship this new package, after the move to cgroup v2 is done in Tumbleweed, which should happen in one of the next snapshots. One last important note, those features are considered not maintained by us and if you encounter any issues with those components, please report bugs directly to systemd-upstream (https://github.com/systemd/systemd). Once we judge a feature stable enough, it will be moved to another sub-package, or directly to the main package. We are looking forward to get your feedback or suggestions for improvements! latest version of vim-plugin-latex is missing in Tumbleweed

Hello, I have been using Tumbleweed for several years now, convinced that "Any user who wishes to have the newest packages that include, but are not limited to, the Linux kernel, ... and many other packages, will want Tumbleweed." (from https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/openSUSE:Factory ) It seems, however, that the vim-plugin-latex package included in the distribution (as well as in Leap) is quite outdated: Yast reports 20120125-39.6, so more than nine years old (?) although the Change Log in Yast shows some later changes, the newest being the line: Mon 11 Nov 2019 13:00:00 CET Johannes Thumshirn <jthumshirn(a)suse.com> - Update vim-plugin-fugitive to upstream version 3.1 In fact, some features introduced 6 years appear to be missing in the package within the distribution, namely the Python support, https://github.com/vim-latex/vim-latex/blame/master/ftplugin/latex-suite/ma… Consequently, the plugin implements wrongly some important functionality, such as multiple compilation (see, e.g., ":help compiling-multiple" within vim or gvim). This is perhaps a simple omission to include a newer version into the distro, or may this be an intention...? Anyway, I would like to point at this obsolete package, hoping the latest version can be included into the distribution update. Best regards, Filip
