Chromium Review

I am reviewing (asking for opinions) whether Chromium should remain in the distro, as are my equivalents at other Linux distributions since the announcement of Chrome Sync being removed. I have already removed the keys needed for Chrome Sync to work from the openSUSE packages. So, we either keep Chromium without Sync or we ditch it. We also have the option of packaging an open source Chromium derivative that has Sync (i think Brave does, not 100%). UsrMerge testing

Hi, All packages that contained compat symlinks or needed other adjustments for the UsrMerge are checked into Factory! The staging tests passed openQA. That means the switch to activate the UsrMerge could be flipped any time if wanted. When the UsrMerge gets activated, the TW engines will choke a bit until everything has settled again. So Dominique has to find the right timing I guess :-) Meanwhile testers are welcome. The affected packages are rebuild with UsrMerge enabled in a sub project of Factory. Yast VPN module don't works anymore via StrongSwan IPSec or IKEv2

For more than a year I have made the setup of a VPN service with the Yast VPN module. But now I found the service doesn't work right. The Yast VPN module don't gives the option to place the user for the connection. In my Android phone with the Strongswan app, I place the name of the vpn server like "ipsec.name1.name2.net", the user and the password for the service AND IT WORKS! But with Tumbleed is not so easy. They are 2 ways tosetup the VPN: 1- Via the Yast VPN module 2- Via Network Manager Strongswan The configuration Via Network Manager Strongswan is not enabled, then not possible. I have installed: NetworkManager-strongswan - NetworkManager VPN support for strongSwan plasma-nm5-strongswan - strongSwan support for plasma-nm5 strongswan - IPsec-based VPN solution strongswan-hmac - HMAC files for FIPS-140-2 integrity in strongSwan strongswan-ipsec - IPsec-based VPN solution strongswan-libs0 - strongSwan core libraries and basic plugins strongswan-mysql - MySQL plugin for strongSwan strongswan-nm - NetworkManager plugin for strongSwan strongswan-sqlite - SQLite plugin for strongSwan I have reinstalled all the related packages, but no changes! 15.2 -> 15.3rc problems with nVidia

Hi, I'm using openSUSE Leap 15.3 alpha/beta/gamma in a virtual machine for months without any problems. I could not report any bugs, so no t-shirt for me :-) Today I upgraded a real hardware from 15.2 to 15.3. The upgrade was almost completely successful, except for nVidia graphics. Who is in charge of Leap 15.3 initial configuration?

Could anyone tell me who is in charge of handling the initial configuration of Leap 15.3. As reported in bsc#1183125, an installation of Leap 15.3 in a VirtualBox VM does not install virtualbox-guest-x11 or virtualbox-guest-tools, and only suggests virtualbox-kmp-default. This behavior differs from that of previous versions which detected that the installation was under VirtualBox and installed these 3 additional packages. Thanks, Larry

AMD AOMP (ROCM) Compute stack for Tumbleweed

Hi, I've been working on creating OpenSUSE packages for AMD's ROCm stack for some time. It consists of components for building and running compute workloads on AMD GPUs. One key component is a ROCm specific version of LLVM. This makes things tricky to distribute in normal fashion since we need to include an extra version of LLVM that do not collide with the rest of the system. The solution by AMD has been to put the entire stack in /opt/rocm. AMD has also released a specific build of the stack called AOMP. The focus is on OpenMP but it also includes support for OpenCL, HIP, CUDA and Fortran. This is normally installed in /usr/lib/aomp-%{version}. AOMP also includes build scripts for building the entire stack which is very helpful. What I've done is to create an AOMP package for Tumbleweed which is available at [1]. It tries to mimic what AMD has done for the package they provide for SLE15-SP1. I'm no expert on packaging so there's probably improvents to be made. Is this something that can be included in Tumbleweed? I know the optimal solution would be to have all the ROCm specific parts upstreamed and included in the official LLVM package and then provide seperate packages with normal installation paths. Tumbleweed - Review of the week 2021/17

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers, This week seemed rather calm except for a minor glitch with the Linux kernel 5.11.16, which, due to a build failure, was out of sync between the various kernel sub-packages for one snapshot. The pace of the snapshots was averaged at 5 snapshots (0423, 0425, 0426, 0427, and 0428). The changes included things like: * Linux kernel 5.11.16 & 5.12.0 * KDE Gear 21.04.0 (formerly KDE Applications) * Mozilla Firefox 88.0 * NetworkManager 1.30.4 * Virtualbox 6.1.20: some services were renamed; e.g. vboxautostart.service” is replaced by “vboxautostart-service.service The plan for the upcoming snapshots currently includes: * TeXLive 2021 * Move openmpi default from openmpi2 to openmpi4 * GNOME 40.1 * icu 69.1: for the ring packages, nodejs15 seems to be the last blocker * Switch from go 1.15 to go 1.16: most packages fixed, the last failure in Staging:M is cilium * GCC 11 as default compiler: Move from special-purpose Staging:Gcc7 to Staging:O (incl. openQA test coverage). There are a few more build failures to be addressed. * UsrMerge: The current state is that we checked in all changes and are planning on actually doing the switch somewhen in the not too far future, likely together with the planned distro-rebuild for GCC 11 Cheers, Dominique
