Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,
This week has proven to be challenging for Tumbleweed. We have built
and tested 6 snapshots, and only 2 of them were of sufficient quality
to send out to the users. Of course, that means our QA infrastructure
is well suited in protecting you, the users, from running into trouble
– and that is the best thing we can show with this.
The two snapshots published were 0227 and 0302, containing these
interesting changes:
* NetworkManager 1.30 – with WPA3 support
* The YaST stack update, as recently announced by the YaST team
* Mozilla Firefox 86.0
* Mozilla Thunderbird 78.8.0
* KDE Plasma 5.21.1
* Dracut 053
* krb5 1.19.1
* pipewire 0.3.22: pipewire-pulseaudio should mostly be able to
replace PulseAudio
* podman 3.0.1
A big chunk of what was announced last week was thus delivered, a few
things are still on the todo – together with a few new things:
* Linux kernel 5.11.2
* openssl 1.1.1i, based on centralized crypto-policies package
* KDE Plasma 5.21.2
* glibc fix for our i586 users
* GCC 11 as the default compiler
Cheers,
Dominique

Hi,
just a sidenote for those who test online-upgrade:
you need to run
zypper dup --allow-vendor-change
as the vendor of all packages changes:
openSUSE --> SUSE LLC <https://www.suse.com/>
(Not sure I like this....)
Cheers

Hi there,
I am currently trying to upgrade my 15.2 systems to 15.3; most of it
works, but there is no MPlayer package available in PMBS for 15.3.
Checking the build dependencies indeed shows:
$ osc -A pmbs buildinfo Essentials MPlayer openSUSE_Leap_15.3 x86_64
<buildinfo project="Essentials" repository="openSUSE_Leap_15.3" package="MPlayer" downloadurl="http://pmbs-api.links2linux.de:8080/">
<arch>x86_64</arch>
<error>unresolvable: nothing provides libcrystalhd-devel</error>
<srcmd5>26f1f35620228afdf09d8f2ed8162c11</srcmd5>
<verifymd5>2b6df76a33e97a3c4d1bb917e333e021</verifymd5>
<rev>108</rev>
<specfile>MPlayer.spec</specfile>
<file>MPlayer.spec</file>
<versrel>1.2.r38170-1</versrel>
<bcnt>1</bcnt>
<release>pm153.1.1</release>
<debuginfo>1</debuginfo>
</buildinfo>
It appears there is no libcrystal* package in Leap 15.3. Can it be added
please?
TIA, cheers.

MicroOS short on utils-package from the default pattern installation
by Walddys Emmanuel Dorrejo Céspedes 05 Mar '21

Hello, i am fascinated on MicroOS and on the concept of transactional-update, this got 1000% of the juice of the concept of hier on Linux/GNULinux.
Now i am creating this thread to see if is possible the devs do the next change on the images:
On my opinion these packages need to be installed on the podman mode of microOS:
- Apparmor pattern - the selection of packages are incomplete:
- Packages Installed
* apparmor-parser
* apparmor-profiles
* patterns-microOS-apparmor
- Packages Not-Installed (but have to be installed by defaul)
* apparmor-utils (the most basic one and is not installed). This package bring the apparmor control of the rules, i have a podman rootfless and the php-fpm pod is not working because i cant change the profile of this app.
* apparmor-docs
- Yast2
- Packages need to come by default
* yast2-storage-ng
* yast2-apparmor
- Firewall
- Packages that need come by defaul
* firewalld
- transactional-updates
- Packages that must come installed by default
* inotify-tools (how a module is out but not bring the dependencies, if this package is not install --do-not-change wont work)
- Others packages
* git
* man
* wget
* docker
and that's my opinion.
thank you for the hard work

Hi all,
Congratulations on the Beta release. The marketing work group spent some
time on the draft release announcement last night
https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/153release and reached a point where we
need more input from the community about what packages and new features
will be in openSUSE Leap 15.3. Lubos has already posted a list on
https://en.opensuse.org/Features_15.3 of the packages that were in the
alpha. I'll expand on some of those packages as we get a new list
heading toward the release candidate. Please consider adding info about
any package that will be in openSUSE Leap 15.3 to the
https://en.opensuse.org/Features_15.3 page. Adding screenshot to
https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:15.3/Screenshots would also be helpful.

Hi!
Whoever is responsible for the combination fpc/Lazarus :
Nice to see the new Lazarus version 2,0.12
But is was everywhere written that this version needs fpc 3.2
The repo does not offer that and so we got a crash combination.
Starting the new Lazarus 2.0.12 it complains at once:
"Warning: wrong version in ide/version.inc: 2.0.12"
I hope that very, very soon the fpc 3.2 is in the repo

- Update to 1.19.1
* Fix a linking issue with Samba.
* Better support multiple pkinit_identities values by checking whether
certificates can be loaded for each value.
- Update to 1.19
Administrator experience
* When a client keytab is present, the GSSAPI krb5 mech will refresh
credentials even if the current credentials were acquired manually.
* It is now harder to accidentally delete the K/M entry from a KDB.
Developer experience
* gss_acquire_cred_from() now supports the "password" and "verify"
options, allowing credentials to be acquired via password and
verified using a keytab key.
* When an application accepts a GSS security context, the new
GSS_C_CHANNEL_BOUND_FLAG will be set if the initiator and acceptor
both provided matching channel bindings.
* Added the GSS_KRB5_NT_X509_CERT name type, allowing S4U2Self requests
to identify the desired client principal by certificate.
* PKINIT certauth modules can now cause the hw-authent flag to be set
in issued tickets.
* The krb5_init_creds_step() API will now issue the same password
expiration warnings as krb5_get_init_creds_password().
Protocol evolution
* Added client and KDC support for Microsoft's Resource-Based Constrained
Delegation, which allows cross-realm S4U2Proxy requests. A third-party
database module is required for KDC support.
* kadmin/admin is now the preferred server principal name for kadmin
connections, and the host-based form is no longer created by default.
The client will still try the host-based form as a fallback.
* Added client and server support for Microsoft's KERB_AP_OPTIONS_CBT
extension, which causes channel bindings to be required for the
initiator if the acceptor provided them. The client will send this
option if the client_aware_gss_bindings profile option is set.
User experience
* kinit will now issue a warning if the des3-cbc-sha1 encryption type is
used in the reply. This encryption type will be deprecated and removed
in future releases.
* Added kvno flags --out-cache, --no-store, and --cached-only
(inspired by Heimdal's kgetcred).

Version update (0.3.21 -> 0.3.22)
Subpackages: gstreamer-plugin-pipewire libpipewire-0_3-0 pipewire-modules pipewire-spa-plugins-0_2 pipewire-spa-tools pipewire-tools
- Do not provide pulseaudio, but pulseaudio-daemon so we can
specify in the patterns that we prefer the pulseaudio package
(boo#1182730)
- Update to version 0.3.22:
* Highlights
+ Per client config files replace the module-profiles. It's
now possible to tweak settings and load custom modules.
+ Pro Audio card profile support. You can now select the
Pro Audio profile and have raw device access with the
maximum number of channels and no mixer controls. This is
the usual setup for managing high end Pro Audio cards.
+ Many fixes and improvements in the JACK library to make
devices look and integrate better.
+ Many bluetooth improvements. Playback should be more
reliable and better synchronized. Support for the HFP HF
profile.
+ Small fixes and improvements all over the map.
* PipeWire improvements
+ Add support for restrictions requested by a client. This
makes it possible to implement Flatpak policy for emulated
PulseAudio clients as well.
+ Fix removal of params in objects. Previously they would not
be removed from the cache.
+ Remove mlock warnings by default. There is an option to
enable them again if you want to check if your system is
optimized.
+ Remove LimitMEMLOCK lines from the service files. They can
only lower the system settings and are thus not useful.
+ Implement per-client config files. Each pipewire client will
now read a config file that you can use to configure the
context of the client.
+ Implement state and config load/save in pipewire. This is
used by the session manager or other apps.
+ Make an option to disable dbus support.
+ Add tool to convert pipewire config to JSON.
* Session-manager
+ Give all permissions to Manager flatpak apps. In the future
we will use the Permission store to remember user settings.
+ Improvements to default audio/sink handling.
+ Add option to configure device suspend time.
+ Small fixes in route handling.
* Device support
+ Complain when ACP profile files are not found and use
a fallback in order to get something working.
+ Add volume support to monitor ports.
+ Fix resume from suspend for ALSA in more cases.
+ ALSA ACP cards now have a Pro Audio profile that exposes
the raw card devices.
* Bluetooth
+ Enable A2DP delay reporting. This improves audio/video sync
when playing audio over bluetooth.
+ Fix stuttering in A2DP source
+ Tweak buffer size and latency settings to avoid stuttering
+ More work on HSP and HFP support
+ Fix initial profile configuration
+ Add HFP HF support
* PulseAudio server
+ Small tweaks in capture packet size to avoid crashes in some
apps.
+ Detect Flatpak apps and requests the flatpak permissions from
the session manager. This means that Flatpak pulseaudio apps
will now run with reduced permissions.
* ALSA plugin
+ Reduce min buffer size in the plugin for lower possible
latency.
* JACK
+ implement some missing methods to make qjackctl work again.
+ Use the context data thread instead of making our own. This
fixes the issue where the data thread was not given RT
priority correctly.
+ Pass extra jack flags around in port properties. This makes
CV ports in carla work.
+ Many tweaks to the port names and aliases. Unwanted
characters are filtered out, giving better names to jack
apps. Default device names are now equal to those seen in
pulseaudio apps.
+ Add an option to make a separate client for the monitor
ports of a device. This makes it more usable in apps.
+ add support for system:playback_N and system:capture_N port
names for apps that hardcode these port names.
- Re-add the Provides: pulseaudio; patterns-base now suggests
pulseaudio, which should help zypp in doing a smarter decision
(boo#1182730).

- Let pulseaudio-utils require any pulseaudio-daemon provider
so parecord and the other utils can be used with other
pulseaudio implementations
- Provide pulseaudio-daemon capability so pipewire-pulseaudio can
also provide that capability instead of providing 'pulseaudio'
itself which makes it difficult to recommend the pulseaudio
package (boo#1182730).

- Revert /var/lib/ntp to the ownership and permissions it had in
the ntp package. It should be owned by root and not be writable
by the ntp user, because it is the base of ntpd's chroot
envoronment and the ntp user is not supposed to log in anyway.
==== systemd ====
Subpackages: libsystemd0 libsystemd0-32bit libudev-devel libudev1 libudev1-32bit systemd-32bit systemd-container systemd-doc systemd-lang systemd-logger systemd-sysvinit udev
- systemd requires aaa_base >= 13.2
This dependency is required because 'systemctl
{is-enabled,enable,disable} <initscript>" ends up calling
systemd-sysv-install which in its turn calls "chkconfig
- -no-systemctl".
aaa_base package has a weird versioning but the '--no-systemctl'
option has been introduced starting from SLE12-SP2-GA, which shipped
version "13.2+git20140911.61c1681".
Spotted in bsc#1180083.

==== xorgproto ====
Version update (2020.1 -> 2021.3)
- xorgproto 2021.3
If you thought the 2021.2 release was exciting, well, you're in for a
surprise: this one even builds with meson! How cool is that?!
Somewhat related: the new script to generate and verify the keysyms was
missing from the (autotools-generated) tarball, causing a meson build from
that tarball to fail during the setup phase. This is fixed now.
No changes to the rest of the sources, so this is effectively identical to
yesterday's tarball.
- xorgproto 2021.2
This release is mostly all about keysyms. Some additions to Vietnamese and
Hangul but the big set of commits here is catching up with several years of
Linux kernel releases.
The kernel's evdev interface has semantic keycodes (e.g. KEY_ESC is what
you'd expect). Beyond the normal range expected to change with different
layouts there are many keycodes that should only ever do one thing.
For example, KEY_ONSCREEN_KEYBOARD should display the OSK regardless of
layout). In the past, we've added these keysyms on a as-requested basis.
We now have a reserved subrange in the already reserved range for XF86Foo
keysyms. Within that range, keysyms map directly to their evdev
counterparts, making future updates easier. The above example
KEY_ONSCREEN_KEYBOARD now has a XF86OnScreenKeyboard keysym.
The header file follows a strict convention to make this range
machine-readable, xkeyboard-config can make use of this to
make those keysyms available by default. Note that almost all keys are
outside the X keycode range so very little will change under X.
Note that most keys exist on selected devices only so the practial use is
quite limited. But those keysyms are available through normal XKB
configuration so users can re-map existing keys where needed.
Aside from those, a bit of misc cleanup work. Many thanks to all
contributors.
==== xscreensaver ====
Version update (5.44 -> 5.45)

## Leap
Leap 15.3 Beta announcement will be sent today. Build 91.1 was
published yesterday.
I fixed one publishing issue that costed consumed 40G in /home on
pontifex. Thanks for heads up from Rudi.
Users will newly get Leap 15.3 beta from get.opensuse.org as
software.opensuse.org no longer offers /distributions functionality.
How to report issues found during Beta testing: We should use bugzilla
(https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Submitting_bug_reports) and also beta
testing sheet
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AGKijKpKiJCB616-bHVoNQuhWHpQLHPWCb3…
We also recommend users to use forums.opensuse.org which is relatively
active.
CtLG update:
5 features left in progress for CtLG (two of them related to way how
packages for HPC are built)
Libreoffice was finally unforked from Leap!
Migration seems good, tested twice on my 15.3 Beta
We have found a librepo maintainer (blocks OPENSUSE-18), also
libmodulemd (was blocking createrepo_c unification).
I still need to publish some more release notes entries regarding CtLG
changes (kernel is to be merged, vendor equality is pending etc ...)
I got additional text data for KDE and Xfce for 15.3 Feature page.
todo: investigate do and don'ts for translation related tasks in Leap
15.3 (re-use of binaries from SLE). I already have a discussion with
sbrabec.
## openSUSE Tumbleweed
* glibc 2.33 is in Tumbleweed, i586 is having issues; a patch is
already in Staging and should go in soon. It is not clear yet, if we
will need again a fill rebuild (but very likely we do)
* YaST stack update caused quite a bit of headaches, but is now under
control thanks to the efforts of the YaST team.
* Kernel 5.11 is ready for checkin; will be delivered out this week
* selinux can be enabled during the installation phase; Default will be
set to 'permissive'
* GNOME 40.beta is ready in the GNOME:Next repo (UI changes, dock now
at the bottom; TW will see it end in March/April timeframe if nothing
bad comes up)
* GCC11 as the default compiler is being tested in a Staging
## Richard (Kubic/TW MicroOS)
New co-maintainers would be still appreciated for the following
packages: podman, conmon, libcontainers-common, cri-o, katacontainers*,
buildah. Please join the kubic(a)lists.opensuse.org mailinglist and state
your intentions to help out, or even better, just send package
submissions.
Working on integrating changes to enable DNF transactional-updates as
an option for MicroOS and possibly the default for MicroOS Desktop.
Pending YaST changes.
MicroOS for Rock64 Image still in in testing
NVIDIA Jetson Nano purchase pending, sponsored by SUSE
SELinux-by-default tests reviewed, changes still required, WIP
Research into checksumming entire filesystems proving fruitful, found
legitimate issues with some filesystem cloning tools, still looking
into ways of smoothly integrating it into MicroOS/Kubic.
Cleanup of containers: seems like there is a bot obsoleting certain
containers on bi-weekly/weekly basis? botmaster/container cleaner.
## Max
* Added `Provides: dup-vendor-relax(suse)` to -release package since
the discussion on bsc#1182629
* Initial setup for cumulate mode not working (bsc#1182696, bsc#1182698
related), added Preinstall: rpm-config-SUSE to Backports prjconf(it
should add to SUSE:SLE-15-SP3:GA prjconf IMO)
* Added opensuse-welcome to the media since patterns changes
* `Boot from hard disk` via media bootmenu fails to work
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1182891
* Rebuild yast2-firstboot in Leap due to is_opensuse macro
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1182838
Publishing is weird, we're waiting for new build to be published we
have temporarily set "set -x" to the publish_distro so we can see why
the tree is not in sync with with DVD after "initial publish". The
first run must got some problem while thru repo/oss, the next run then
gets skipped because isos were already published. (Max feel free to
rewrite my comment).
live images get published into dvd-area which is probably a bug too
(this is wrong also on ftp-stage).
Adrian: Adrian will check. We'll see if we keep it this way or will
change that back. Lubos will then
inform mirrors@. Live images will be published as rest of appliances.
This is the current strategy. Lubos will check how is it with rsync can
we actually do it this way ... after GA.
Guillaume: keep in mind live images will be updated after the release,
so likely better to keep it separated
## Guillaume - Arm
Tumbleweed:
* arm-trusted-firmware reached Factory. This will allow to fix the
build of MicroOS images for Rock64 and to get rid of some Contrib
projects in OBS. We are just waiting for an update of u-boot
(Staging:C) to build against arm-trusted-firmware package by default in
Tumbleweed.
* Evaluating the option to enable in-kernel Memory Tagging Extension
(MTE) support via KASAN for aarch64 in kernel-debug. E-mail sent to
openSUSE kernel mailing list to get some feedback in parallel to my
tests.
Leap 15.3 ARM:
* aarch64: bug in grub:
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1182776
* Armv7: Still a huge backlog for armv7 in OBS. More build power to
build armv7 would be very useful. openQA setup still needs to be done
but this is blocked by the lack of a proper :ToTest repo with FTP tree
and NET ISO.
Lubos sent the openSUSE step announcement to people who left their
email contact in the openSUSE ARM Usecases survey
WSL: Stalled: WIP to have WSL on aarch64 on
https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/home:Guillaume_G:WSL The goal
is to have WSL-DistroLauncher package built for aarch64. Help welcomed.
SUSE is currently interviewing candidates for the WSL Engineering post.
So far Jeff is still the only person working on the Engineering efforts
(native kiwi support, and some current WSL build blockers on SLE).
## Michel ppc64le
Michel was not present today

ad-hoc lightning talk about what's new in 15.3 Beta.
Lubos to share outcome of SUSE and Rancher Community + openSUSE
Community communication internal workshop that happened last Wednesday.
I received approval from SUSE PM to pass over all information (just
need to strip employee names from ideas). I have the raw sheet. I'll
try to send it by today.
## Dirk
Further work on openSUSE:Step bootstrapping. Finally have "emacs" and
"xorg-x11-server" built, using a couple of backports. A lot of fails
all over the place.
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1182946 -
Packagehub/backports issue breaking image build
TTM setup and publishing hooks implementation still to be done.
Adrian: I'm bit unsure regarding the ftp-tree. We have a build now but
I'm still not sure where to publish.
Adrian: two options ...
Dirk: we could have something publishable within 4 weeks. Migration,
testing are still far away.
Gerald: if it's a resource issue make sure that Vojtech knows about
this this week (cc Gerald).
Lubos will reach out to Vojtech regarding the SLE help on the x86 side.
OBS blacklist: no progress. Adrian would like to "strip" it down.
Hopefully some update by next week.
## Gerald or any Board representative
A warm welcome to our New treasurer! Syds Bearda!
Big thank you to the previous treasurer Andrew Wafaa
## Wolfgang (Package Hub), Scott Bahling
- problem with scotch:serial (conflict with metis-devel from WE)
addressed and it is planned to remove metis-devel from Workstation
Extension (scotch:serial is needed to build other HPC packages in
Backports/Leap)
- still some updates for packages in SLE in the pipeline.
Discussion with fcrozat on whitelisting conflict vs removing package
from WE. There is some activity, so the effort is not stalled. The
remaining question is "is this safe to whitelist for filesystem
conflict".
## Adrian - CtLG or openSUSE Step
The last part which is missing is the patchinfo. This blocks zypper
patch usecase. zypper up works as expected.
We would need to have a maintenance incident for every update, which is
not the case. So we have to reconstruct this somehow.
Adrian: keep the location as it is, release it to dir that has to be
defined. And keep all :Images refreshing after GA (not /images).
Lubos will ask SUMA people if they would be willing to help.

Um, where are the .repo files I need to add to zypper for it
to read the current dist? I've been using the repo/repodata/repomd.xml
files
for my own local cache and building a repository with that locally,
but without downloading that first, zypper seems unhappy:
Error building the cache:
