[opensuse-factory] be warned about xdm from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_Tumbleweed
by Rainer Klier 08 Sep '20
by Rainer Klier 08 Sep '20
08 Sep '20
hi all,
please be warnedabout the Xorg repo http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_Tumbleweed
in this repo the xdm package already uses the new scheme of moving files from /etc to /usr/etc
so xdm now places many files in /usr/etc/X11/xdm and not anymore in /etc/X11/xdm
but, for example, sddm still references files from xdm from folder /etc/X11/xdm.
for example, in file /usr/lib/sddm/sddm.conf.d/00-general.conf you will see the following lines:
SessionCommand=/etc/X11/xdm/Xsession DisplayCommand=/etc/X11/xdm/Xsetup
which results in a system, where you can't login any more.
changing these 2 lines fixes the issue.

Hi everyone!
These days I realized that GDM was showing the SUSE logo instead of
Kamarada's. I was trying to figure out what was wrong with my setup,
but then I realized it is happening with openSUSE Leap 15.2 as well.
How to reproduce the bug: download the openSUSE Leap 15.2 live image
from software.opensuse.org, boot it (you can use a VirtualBox VM),
give the live user a password, play with locking the screen and
logging out. Sometimes the SUSE logo appears, sometimes the openSUSE
logo appears.
GDM with openSUSE logo: https://paste.opensuse.org/99292928
GDM with SUSE logo: https://paste.opensuse.org/96846109
It seems to me that when locking the screen, the SUSE logo appears.
Logging out, the openSUSE logo appears.
I couldn't reproduce it in Tumbleweed. So it seems to be a Leap 15.2 issue only.
Tested today (Sep 07, 2020):
- openSUSE-Leap-15.2-GNOME-Live-x86_64-Build31.161-Media.iso
- openSUSE-Tumbleweed-GNOME-Live-x86_64-Snapshot20200905-Media.iso
Linux Kamarada 15.2 RC 2 Build 45.1 was not affected by this bug yet,
but I was going to upload an updated ISO image that is.
Thanks for your attention!
Antonio

With some delay from the actual end of the sprint, let's take a look to
what the YaST team was doing at the end of August.
- More flexible AutoYaST profiles by means of Embedded Ruby (ERB).
- Unify the format used to reference a certain element of an AutoYaST
profile, both when reporting errors and when using ask-lists.
- Preliminary version of a menu bar for the Partitioner.
- Better handling of corrupted AutoYaST profiles.
Check the whole report at:
https://yast.opensuse.org/blog/2020-09-07/sprint-107
Cheers.

Hi,
now that /tmp is on tmpfs, there is a problem if you don't reboot for a
longer time: /tmp will fill up your memory over the time.
For this reason we will re-enable the systemd rule to cleanup /tmp
after 10 days. /var/tmp stays unchanged.
At the same time we split fs-var.conf into fs-tmp.conf for /tmp and
fs-var-tmp.conf for /var/tmp, so that people can overwrite the rules
for /tmp and /var/tmp independently.
If you don't use tmpfs on /tmp or don't want to clean it up automatically,
cp /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/fs-tmp.conf to /etc/tmpfiles.d and remove the
"10d" from the content.

==== pipewire ====
Version update (0.3.9 -> 0.3.10)
Subpackages: libpipewire-0_3-0 pipewire-modules pipewire-spa-plugins-0_2 pipewire-spa-tools pipewire-tools
- Update to version 0.3.10:
* Many improvements to the pulse layer.
+ GStreamer pulsesink element now works.
+ Fixes some segfaults.
+ Enable rtkit for client threads.
+ fixes capture of monitor stream by name
+ implement some more extensions, this makes paman
work and removes some warnings.
* Many improvements to the GStreamer elements
+ negotiation rework, avoid calling GStreamer methods from
the PipeWire callbacks because they might block and cause
deadlocks.
+ Add support for non-string property values.
+ improve stability after buffer and format
renegotiation.
+ Rework the device provider.
+ pipewiresink can now provide a stream that can
be consumed by apps like cheese.
* Many improvements to the JACK layer:
+ Rework the buffer_size callbacks. Make sure we call
the callback from a 'safe' thread and that we don't
call the process callback while the application is
handling the callback. This improves stability in
apps like Carla when PipeWire dynamically changes
the buffer size.
+ Improve compatibility with apps that call
get_buffer_frames() with a 0 size (calfjackrack)
+ JACK can now create nodes that can be set as a
sink/source in PulseAudio/ALSA apps (you can make an
effects rack and set that as default sink for
apps).
* Added a group id property for nodes. This makes it
possible to schedule nodes with the same driver even
when they are otherwise not linked together. To make
this work well a new flag needed to be added to nodes
to signal when they are ready for processing.
Together with the GStreamer fixes, this makes things
like:
gst-launch-1.0 -v pipewiresrc path=51 stream-properties="props,node.group=1" !
audio/x-raw ! pipewiresink stream-properties="props,node.group=1"
work as expected with PipeWire managing the resampling
to keep the clocks of the devices in sync.
This can later also be used to force devices to be grouped
together to create a JACK-like scheduling group.
* Streams and filter now use PIPEWIRE_NODE and
PIPEWIRE_LATENCY env variables as fallback.
* ACP add per device port list. This makes UCM devices
expose the right ports.
* Fix some segfaults in ACP and UCM.
* make pw-cat use the metadata to find default devices.
* The media session can now save and load audio device
Profiles and Routes (volumes), stream volumes and
the default sink and sources.
==== read-only-root-fs ====
- Adjust btrfsmaintenance sysconfig to not use the read-only
root filesystem [bsc#1176052]
==== rubygem-parser ====

[opensuse-factory] TW 0825: %{_libexecdir} == /usr/libexec
by Dominique Leuenberger / DimStar 06 Sep '20
by Dominique Leuenberger / DimStar 06 Sep '20
06 Sep '20
Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,
After a few months of hard labor by many package maintainers, we
reached the point where we could merge the change for %_libexecdir now.
Snapshot 0825 has just started building and will be the first snapshot
to come out (or to be built - we'll see if it will be published) with
that change enabled.
As this is a change also having impact on interactions between packages
it was nescessary to trigger a rebuild of all packages. It's not
realistically possible to identify the packages that would effectively
be affected. So, besides the 'big change', you can expect also 'big
download' for Snapshot 0825 (or the first snapshot to be published
after that date).
Please be extra attentive to things no longer behaving as you expect.
There is unfortunately a chance that some packages have hardcoded paths
to files that moved around or also packages that hardcoded the install
path even though things expect the helpers in different locations.
Should you come across one of your packages failing to build, it would
be appreciated by all users of said package to receive a fix rather
sooner than later.
Than kyou all for your great work on this topic. It once again showed
that together, we can reach even such larger goals and doing so without
rishing things.
Cheers,
Dominique

==== ebtables ====
Subpackages: libebtc0
- Have the source .service file hold a placeholder for LIBEXECDIR,
which we replace during build/install phase, allowing the package
to be used no matter what value %{_libexecdir} has.
- replace /usr/lib with /usr/libexec in .service files to follow
%_libexecdir macro changes
==== festival ====
- Removed "rcfestival" and added almost equivalent functionality
to systemd unit file (thanks to Franck Bui <fbui(a)suse.com>).
- Removed %stop_on_removal and %restart_on_update from .spec,
which is not needed anymore.
- /var/run has been obsoleted by /run since a long time.
- Drop dependency on insserv-compat
insserv-compat is going to be dropped soon or later on systems with
systemd as init system.
It was only needed by /usr/lib/festival/server that uses rc_status
to pretty print the status of a command.
Since this script is intended to be used by festival.service only
and not called directly by users and systemd has already its own
mechanism to report status, the use of rc_status doesn't seem to be
useful.
Also there's no point in using %insserv_cleanup in %postun as this
package doesn't ship any sysv init script.
==== findutils ====
Subpackages: findutils-lang
- findutils-gnulib-test-avoid-FP-perror-strerror.patch: Add patch to

Version update (0.20.2 -> 0.20.5)
- update to 0.20.5:
* Print a clearer exception when setup.py is executed on Python < 3.5.
* Send an empty pack to clients if they requested objects, even if they
already have those objects. Thanks to Martijn Pieters for
the detailed bug report.
* porcelain.pull: Don't ask for objects that we already have.

* Check for diverged branches during push.
* Check for fast-forward during pull. (Jelmer Vernoo?, #666)
* Return a SendPackResult object from
GitClient.send_pack(). (Jelmer Vernoo?)
* ``GitClient.send_pack`` now sets the ``ref_status`` attribute
on its return value to a dictionary mapping ref names
to error messages. Previously, it raised UpdateRefsError
if any of the refs failed to update.
(Jelmer Vernoo?, #780)
* Add a ``porcelain.Error`` object that most errors in porcelain
derive from. (Jelmer Vernoo?)
* Fix argument parsing in dulwich command-line app.
(Jelmer Vernoo?, #784)
* Add support for remembering remote refs after push/pull.
(Jelmer Vernoo?, #752)
* Support passing tree and output encoding to
dulwich.patch.unified_diff. (Jelmer Vernoo?, #763)
* Fix pushing of new refs over HTTP(S) when there are
no new objects to be sent.
(Jelmer Vernoo?, #739)
* Raise new error HTTPUnauthorized when the server sends
back a 401. The client can then retry with credentials.
(Jelmer Vernoo?, #691)
* Move the guts of bin/dulwich to dulwich.cli, so it is easier to
test or import. (Jelmer Vernoo?)
* Install dulwich script from entry_points when setuptools is available,
making it slightly easier to use on Windows. (Jelmer Vernoo?, #540)
* Set python_requires>=3.5 in setup.py. (Manuel Jacob)
