Hi
I'm currently working on the config file switch /etc --> /usr/etc (find
Details on https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Packaging_UsrEtc) and now I'm
wondering what should be done with files mentioned in the list below.
* /etc/profile.d/* (no changes in aaa_base, bash yet)
* /etc/alternatives/* (no changes in update-alternatives/dpkg yet)
* /etc/slp.reg.d/* (e.g. vnc.reg, ssh.reg) (no changes in openslp yet)
* /etc/xdg/autostart (e.g. vncmanager-controller.desktop, xdg-user-dirs.desktop)
* /etc/logrotate.d/* (e.g. xdm, dracut)
* /etc/skel/* (e.g. .xinitrc.template, .profile) (no changes yet in filesystem
useradd, <whatever is affected>)
* /etc/rpm/* macros (e.g. macros.xorg-server, macros.kernel-source)
Seems I depend a lot on other packages to implement the switch first. Or is
the switch for the files in the list above not planned or sensible? What do
you think?
Should I open bugzilla tickets for these and depend my tickets on these?
For most (if not all) of these packages I don't feel competent and I am simply
not brave enough trying to do the required changes myself. Chances to break
our distribution that way sounds rather realistic to me. :-(
I'm definitely willing to enhance the webpage above with the outcome of this
discussion - if there is any.
Thanks,
Stefan

All meeting minutes can be found here:
https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/ReleaseEngineering-meeting
## Participants
Dominique Leuenberger, Guillaume Gardet, Michel Normand, Lubos Kocman,
Doug Demaio, Max Lin, Tomas Chvatal
Public holiday in Germany on Thursday.
## Leap
GM is currently scheduled for this Thursday (25th June), GA next
Thursday (2nd July)
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Roadmap
Progressing on remaining RC/GM tasks in progress-o-o. Making sure that
I have access on all necessary access.
Lubos to remind Infra and OBS team not to do changes on our Leap 15.2
GA (currently Thursday 10:00 UTC)
SLE 15 SP2 is GOLD, therefore we should not receive any more
submissions from SLE side.
IRPQ resubmission because of bladeRF-*-firmware
Issue with merge conflict on weblate/openSUSE Leap 15.2 translations.
I've reached out to Marketa and Stanislav. So far no response
## openSUSE Tumbleweed
* Kernel 5.7.2 has been released - addressing
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=208183
* KDE Plasma 5.19.1
* Something happened to my opensuse mailing list membership: since
Friday I did not get any mails; investigation is ongoing (but in case
somebody wonders why I'm not replying to anything there)
## ddemaio
* Marketing brainstorming meeting
* Working on social media messages
* Make a video about "how I use openSUSE" or "why I use openSUSE" nd
send to ddemaio(a)suse.com, so the videos can be edited and shared
online. 5 to 30 seconds are ideal. However, it people want to do
examples, that can also be shared.
* Plan a launch party and take a photo or screen shot of how everyone
is celebrating the release
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Launch_parties
* GSOC - First Evaluations due between June 29- July 3
* openSUSE + LibreOffice Conference
* CfP deadline is July 21
* Working with SUSE Legal on conference tools
* https://github.com/openSUSE/artwork/tree/master/posters
- Ludwig: these are intended to be print by yourself, or being
distributed on release parties.
## Dirk
lkocman: Dirk published his openSUSE Tier1 deliverable policy on
opensuse-factory@. This resulted into discussion. The original trigger
for the document "aarch64" meets the policy criteria, therefore it
should be treated as a Tier1 deliverable in openSUSE Leap.
Lubos to talk to Guillaume about next steps.
## Guillaume - Arm
Tumbleweed:
* MicroOS transactional update is broken due to a kiwi bug: kiwi
creates broken /EFI/BOOT/grub.cfg:
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1172908 - Fix merged in
git, will need time to reach Factory.
* Still a bug with GNOME X11 and Virtio (not specific to Arm):
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1168992
Leap 15.2:
* Last snapshot in openQA shows Leap 15.2 ALPHA: Fixed by Max
already. Next snapshot should be fine.
## Gerald
Not available
## Max
* Last checkin for 15.2 was already done
* staging bot, build fail reminder and publish announcer were disabled
* Migration bug https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1162755, Leap
-> SLE, Yast, this will be handled as a maintenance update.
## Adrian - Jump
Not here.
lubos: was looking into the obs changelog api
## Michel
PowerPC
openQA, TW recurrent failures because of rcu kernel messages, still
investigating with issue https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/68218
## Richard
Not present
## Tom
LibreOffice 7.0 beta2 included in Tumbleweed
- will have to investigate skia enablement and whether to use clang
on it or stick to gcc, must talk with the toolchain team
Chromium 83 was bit of a bummer on Leap as it was not able to playback
videos
Python-rpm-macros tweaks to fix bugs on SLE12 introduce few fun fails
on Tumbleweed, needs to be hunted down
lubos: we've rejected the .106 submission in 15.2 (raised by openqa
guys)
## Wolfgang
Not present
## Ludwig
No update
## Overview of Commmunity SLE Feature Requests (See details in
https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Leap/SLEFeatureRequests )
(This section will be newly part of ReleaseEngineering meeting minutes)
* Update Apparmor to 2.13.4 (PM-1983)
- ECO pending approval
- Pinged maintainer whether bsc#1172040 respective o.o equivalent
boo#1171315 can't be used as an input for the maintenance update
* python-mailman 3.3.1 update requires update of python-
importlib_resources, python-zope.interface (PM-1954)
- SR done, pending few ECO approvals
* lqxt-build-tools update to 0.7.0 (PM-1914) - TPM evaluation Done
- Deferred to SP3
* add authselect for managing auth stack configuration (PM-1881) -
Pending PM Evaluation
- Aiming for 15 SP3
- Pinged Josef to provide more feedback. Received positive feedback.
And go ahead from him.
* Update python-typing_extensions to 3.7.4 (PM-1833) - 1/2 DONE
- Submissions against 15 SP2 are ready
- python-typing https://build.suse.de/request/show/218052,
superseded byhttps://build.suse.de/request/show/218607 Accepted
- python-typing_extensions
https://build.suse.de/request/show/219439 under review, however GMC
build is already done.
- Pinged Matej to submit it as maintenance update
* Update libcdio required by python-pycdio 2.1.0 and whipper (PM-1801)
- Next release
- Will be deferred to the next release (15 SP3) as it does not
qualify as a SLE 15 SP2 RC phase request. Change requires rebuild of
underlying dependencies. Namely: cdio-utils.spec, ffmpeg.spec,
gstreamer-plugins-ugly.spec, gvfs.spec, libcddb.spec, libcdio,
paranoia.spec, libcdio.spec, vcdimager.spec
Next steps for aarch64 being the Tier 1 architecture in openSUSE Leap
* release-notes submission to announce this (let's aim release-notes
branch 15.3, and possibly 15.2.1 if this is the case)
* software-o-o submission to place aarch64 next to x86_64 ^ same as
release notes 15.2.1 or 15.3
* publish a blog post on the media
* Ludwig raised the point that in aarch64 is still build in ports in
openSUSE Leap 15.2. It's not a written requirement by the policy, but
it's not ideal state.
* A good compromise seems to be to use the intermediate Jump or Leap
release in October which would be referred to as 15.2.1 and in openSUSE
Leap 15.2. This would be also case for the openSUSE Leap 15.3 OBS
setup, once its available.
* Ludwig: is migration from Leap to SLES supported on aarch64?
lkocman: Will take this to SLE PM and will ask about the state of
support.

The YaST Team is back with another development digest... but this time
we need your help! Please, visit our blog post and give us feedback
using the poll embedded there. It's just three questions and it would
help us a lot to define the future of our development reports.
https://yast.opensuse.org/blog/2020-06-23/sprint-102
Of course, apart from the poll itself, our report includes pointers to a
broad range of topics.
- Validation of the AutoYaST profile during installation
https://github.com/yast/yast-autoinstallation/pull/624
- More robust and complete support for AutoYaST's user scripts
https://github.com/yast/yast-autoinstallation/pull/612
- Improvements in AutoYaST error handling and reporting
https://github.com/yast/yast-autoinstallation/pull/625
- Improved handling of systemd services in some corner cases
https://github.com/yast/yast-yast2/pull/1059
- Better detectionand and more accurate boot check for XEN
https://github.com/yast/yast-yast2/pull/1062
https://github.com/yast/yast-storage-ng/pull/1102
- More explanatory labels in repositories management during upgrade
https://github.com/yast/yast-installation/pull/863
- Compatibility of Snapper rollbacks with transactional servers
https://github.com/openSUSE/snapper/pull/540
- Better management of automatic text wrapping in LibYUI
https://github.com/libyui/libyui/pull/165
Looking forward to your feedback, see you in two weeks.

==== man ====
- add upstream signing keys and verify source signature
- Don't mark /etc/alternatives files as %config as that would lead
to stale symlinks on uninstall
- Avoid racy bash code on waiting on find in do_mandb (boo#1155879)
- Use %{_prefix}/lib for tmpfiles.d directory to avoud to get this
nonexecutable location below new location of %{_libexecdir}
- BuildRequire pkgconfig(systemd) instead of systemd: allow OBS to
shortcut the build queues by allowing usage of systemd-mini
- Make systemd timers and services optional but hold them enabled
as maybe in future all packages providing manual pages might use
a posttrans scriplet to trigger a refresh of the man db (boo#1133762).
- remove %verify(not group) from /var/cache/man, the inconsistent
permissions are fixed in the permissions package (boo#1133678)
- Ah ... yes, manual pages are also provides by e.g. mandoc
- Skip %verify(not link mtime) from symbolic links %_bindir even if
those should not hurt but avoid superfluous verify messages
- Minor corrections on %ghost /var/cache/man and link to apropos
- Use update-alternatives to allow that man(1), apropos(1), whatis(1)
can be overwritten by an other package like mandoc
- Reintroduce wrapper for man(1) but without mapping to user man to
be able to reset the PATH to the standard for any preprocessor
- Update to man-db 2.8.4
* Major changes since man-db 2.8.3:
+ Rely on decompressors reading from their standard input rather
than redundantly passing them the input file on their command
line. This works better with downstream AppArmor confinement of
decompressors.
+ Fix invalid syntax in tmpfiles.d/man-db.conf when configured with
- -disable-cache-owner.
+ Make seccomp sandbox allow sched_getaffinity, sometimes used by
xz.
+ Check for mandb_nfmt and mandb_tfmt in the manual page hierarchy
as documented, not in the current directory. This was broken by
the working-directory-handling changes in 2.8.3. Note that this
change means that "man -l" will never use an external formatter
(which was never documented behaviour and was surely a bad idea).
+ Make seccomp sandbox allow some shared memory operations across
the board rather than just when ESET File Security is in use; the
Astrill VPN seems to require something similar, and there are
doubtless other such preload hacks.
+ Some versions of ESET File Security call msgget and msgsnd; if
this program is in use, then allow those.
* Major changes since man-db 2.8.2:
+ Make seccomp sandbox allow madvise, since that's used by lbzip2.
+ Make seccomp sandbox allow kill and tgkill outright, since groff
uses kill to pass on signals to its child processes.
+ Make seccomp sandbox allow sibling architectures on
x86/x86_64/x32, since people sometimes mix and match architectures
there for performance reasons.
+ Fix version check in locale macro loading to tolerate groff
release candidates.
+ man now only changes working directory in child processes, so
never fails due to being unable to change back to its original
working directory.
+ accessdb, apropos, and lexgrog no longer emit spurious gettext
headers in their --help output when localised.
* Major changes since man-db 2.8.1:
+ Make seccomp sandbox allow kill and tgkill when the signal is
directed at the current process or one of its threads; this is
needed by xz.
+ Make seccomp sandbox allow ioctl(fd, TIOCGWINSZ), since that's used
by musl.
+ Work around the proprietary "ESET File Security" antivirus program in
seccomp sandbox: if this is in use then we need to allow some
socket-related system calls.
+ Work around the "snoopy" execve() wrapper and logger in seccomp
sandbox: if this is in use then we need to allow some
socket-related system calls.
+ Interpret EFAULT from seccomp_load as meaning that seccomp is
unavailable, since this can be returned by some versions of
qemu-user.
* Major changes since man-db 2.8.0:
+ Fix seccomp sandbox build on Linux/POWER.
+ Fix manconv execution under seccomp when man is installed setuid.
+ Make seccomp sandbox allow mremap (used by iconv, for example).
+ configure now has a --without-libseccomp option to disable the use
of seccomp even if the library is available.
* Major changes since man-db 2.7.6.1:
+ Fix locale macro loading for Chinese to load the macro file
corresponding to just the language part of the user's locale.
+ Honour --enable-cache-owner in generated systemd tmpfiles snippet
rather than hardcoding "man".
+ If man adds prefixes to a page to handle such things as disabling
hyphenation, then take account of those when looking for a
preprocessor line at the start of the page.
+ Fix a segfault in 'man -D --help'.
+ Treat "\(en" as another synonym for "\-" in NAME sections.
+ Confine most subprocesses that handle untrusted data using
seccomp. This mainly deals with subprocesses that perform
encoding conversions, (de)compressors, groff programs, and a few
other odds and ends. groff programs use a slightly more
permissive filter since they need to create temporary files, so
additional path-based confinement (e.g. using AppArmor) is still
useful.
If this goes wrong, then MAN_DISABLE_SECCOMP=1 can be set in the
environment to disable it, but please report any such problem as a
bug.
+ man now falls back to cat if the compile-time default pager is not
executable.
* Major changes since man-db 2.7.6:
+ Don't chmod CACHEDIR.TAG if it doesn't exist.
+ Correct installation of Swedish manual pages.

Bug Fixes
* ********
* Don't throw an error attempting to read the parent of a ref.
(Jelmer Vernoo?)
* Fix fast-exporting of symlinks on Python 3. (Jelmer Vernoo?, #1851478)
* Don't rely on private transport attribute in fast-import.
(Jelmer Vernoo?, #1854607)
* Fix conversion of time_t to int on certain platforms (arm64, armhf,
ppc64el). (Jelmer Vernoo?)
External Compatibility Breaks
* ****************************
* The ``brz init-repo`` command has been renamed to
``brz init-shared-repo`` to emphasize that it creates
shared repositories rather than just any kind of repository.
(Jelmer Vernoo?)
New Features
* ***********
* A new ``brz land`` command can merge merge proposals on Launchpad,
GitHub and GitLab sites. (Jelmer Vernoo?, #1816213)
* The 'patch' command is now bundled with brz.
Imported from bzrtools by Aaron Bentley. (Jelmer Vernoo?)
* The 'quilt' plugin, extracted from brz-debian, is now
bundled. (Jelmer Vernoo?)
* A new ``calculate_revnos`` configuration option (defaults to enabled)
can be used to disable revno display for branch formats that
do not natively store revnos. This speeds up ``brz log`` on
the Samba git branch by 33%.
(Jelmer Vernoo?)
* Directly read mtab rather than using psutil when trying to figure out
filesystem types. This removes a dependency that not all users may
have installed and speeds up import time since psutil brings in
various other modules. (Jelmer Vernoo?)
* ``brz diff`` now has a --color argument that can write
color diff output. This is based on the cdiff code in
bzrtools by Aaron Bentley.
(Jelmer Vernoo?, #376594)
* Information about tree references can now be updated on remote
branches. (Jelmer Vernoo?)
* Warn the user when they attempt to use Breezy in a Subversion
working copy. (Jelmer Vernoo?)
* Add a basic Mercurial plugin that mentions that .hg repositories
are unsupported when the user attempts to access one.
(Jelmer Vernoo?)
* The ``2a`` format now officially supports storing tree references.
It always partially supported storing tree reference data,
and would happily pull in tree reference data from other repository
formats. (Jelmer Vernoo?)
* A new ``fossil`` plugin has been added that warns users when they
attempt to access Fossil repositories.
(Jelmer Vernoo?, #1848821)
* When pushing to Git repositories, symrefs are now followed.
(Jelmer Vernoo?, #1800393)
* New ``brz clone`` command, which clones everything under
a control directory. I.e. all colocated branches, like
``git clone``. (Jelmer Vernoo?, #831939)
* ``brz sprout`` is now an alias for ``brz branch``.
(Jelmer Vernoo?)
* ``brz branch`` now accepts a ``-b`` flag with the
name of the colocated branch to sprout.
(Jelmer Vernoo?, #1869977)
* Add a ``breezy.__main__`` module so that
``python3 -m breezy`` works. (Jelmer Vernoo?)
Improvements
* ***********
.. Improvements to existing commands, especially improved performance
or memory usage, or better results.
* A new ``--commit-message`` option has been added to
``brz propose``, for hosting sites that support it.
(Jelmer Vernoo?)
* Automatically upgrade to branch format 8 when setting branch references.
(Jelmer Vernoo?)
* The ``ssh`` configuration variable can be used to set the default
SSH implementation. (Jelmer Vernoo?, #650757)
* ``locks.steal_dead`` is now enabled by default.
(Jelmer Vernoo?, #220464)
* The substitution variables for the ``change_editor`` configuration
option are now "{old_path}" and "{new_path}" rather than "@old_path" and
"@new_path". The former is more consistent with the way substitutions
work in other configuration options. The old syntax is still supported.
(Jelmer Vernoo?, #708718)
* The ``brz inventory`` command now accepts a ``--include-root``
argument to show the tree root. (Jelmer Vernoo?)
* Fix support for reading Git repositories over HTTP without
a smart server. (Jelmer Vernoo?)
* CVS pserver URLs now indicate that the pserver protocol is not
supported. (Jelmer Vernoo?)
* Git repositories with submodules can now be imported into 2a
branches; submodules are converted to nested trees.
(Jelmer Vernoo?, #402814)
* Python 3 is now used by default to run scripts, etc. from the makefile.
(Jelmer Vernoo?)
* ``.git/config`` is now consulted to determine the users' identity
for commits, and the gpg_signing_key. (Jelmer Vernoo?)
* Ignore special files (fifos, block/character devices, sockets)
when finding changes in Git working trees. (Jelmer Vernoo?, #1857244)
* Parse error messages from stderr when a remote Git server
hangs up. (Jelmer Vernoo?)
Bug Fixes
* ********
* Print a sensible error message when conversion for an option fails
(i.e. when a non-int is specified as the value for an integer
parameter) (#237844, Jelmer Vernoo?)
* Don't include timestamps in filenames when reporting on binary
files in diff. (Jelmer Vernoo?, #71307)
* Ignore UnknownFormatErrors when scanning for control directories.
(Jelmer Vernoo?, #468332)
* Fix fetching from remote git repositories in ``brz git-import``.
(Jelmer Vernoo?, #1836238)
* A new ``TreeEntry.is_unmodified`` method has added, which allows
merge to check for unmodified files without relying
on the .revision attribute that is not available for Git trees.
This fixes LCA merges for Git repositories.
(Jelmer Vernoo?, #1826663)
* Fix passing of directories in specific_files to
GitWorkingTree.iter_entries_by_dir(). (Jelmer Vernoo?, #1844054)
* Fix ``brz diff --using`` when {old_path} and {new_path} are not
specified in the template. (#1847915, Jelmer Vernoo?)
* Ignore ghost tags when interacting with remote Git repositories.
(Jelmer Vernoo?)
* Fix ``setup_ui=False`` when initializing Breezy.
(Jelmer Vernoo?, #1852647)
* Fix backwards compatibility with Bazaar by supporting the
$BZR_EMAIL variable. (Jelmer Vernoo?, #1869178)
* Cope with non-ascii characters in Git signatures.
(Jelmer Vernoo?, #1869533)
* Fix use of ``proxy_bypass`` on Python 3.
(Jelmer Vernoo?, #1878698)
* Create $XDG_HOME_DIR if it does not exist.
(Jelmer Vernoo?)
API Changes
* **********
* New ``Tree.get_transform`` method for getting a ``TreeTransform``
object. (Jelmer Vernooij)
* The ``Tree.get_root_id`` method has been removed. Use
``Tree.path2id('')`` instead. (Jelmer Vernoo?)
* ``Repository.find_branches`` now returns an iterator rather than a
list. (Jelmer Vernoo?, #413970)
* New ``Tree.get_nested_tree`` method for retrieving a nested tree.
(Jelmer Vernoo?)
* The ``ControlDirFormat.register_server_prober`` method has been removed.
Instead, probers can now have a ``priority`` method to influence
when they are run. (Jelmer Vernoo?)
* New ``urlutils.strip_segment_parameters`` function for
stripping segment parameters from a URL.
(Jelmer Vernoo?)
* ``Tree.id2path`` has a new optional argument ``recurse``,
that determines whether it scans through nested trees.
(Jelmer Vernoo?)
* ``VersionedFiles.add_content`` can now be used to add
content from ``ContentFactory`` objects.
