All, Do we have an equivalent to: download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/windowmanagers/openSUSE_Leap_15.0 for 15.1? This is where are the desktops like fluxbox, fvwm2, i3 and updated packages for icewm and WindowMaker are located. Has it not been requested and built yet? If not, it needs to be. -- David C. [opensuse-factory] 15.1 VBoxClient: Failed to connect to the VirtualBox kernel service, rc=VERR_ACCESS_DENIED

All, There is a problem with the virtualbox-guest packages on 15.1 being version 6.0.6 and I run the (supported until June 2020) 5.2 branch due to an error in Virtualbox 6 that prevents accessing Windows clients with the --headless option over a network. When I connect to 15.1 I get 4 errors on desktop start: VBoxClient: Failed to connect to the VirtualBox kernel service, rc=VERR_ACCESS_DENIED (repeated 3 times) VBoxClient: DnD: Failed to connect to the VirtualBox kernel service, rc=VERR_ACCESS_DENIED 15.1 works, but the use of shared folders, and clipboards is not right. User access to shared folders doesn't work (root can), etc.. Since the 5.2 branch is supported until June 2020 15.1 should have the 5.2 branch virtualbox-guest.... rpm available somewhere. Other than than, 15.1 is doing great. KDE3 blistering fast and beautiful :) -- David C. There have been 7 snapshots released in this timeframe (0510, 0512, 0514, 0516, 0517, 0520 and 0521). I just installed NET on a 12 year old Vaio laptop. [opensuse-factory] reverted and new package for tumbleweed "par" and "par2cmdline"

Hello, Parchive is an erasure code system that produces par files for checksum verification of data integrity, with the capability to perform data recovery operations that can repair or regenerate corrupted or missing data. Currently, PAR1 (the 'par' package) is obsolete and PAR2 (the 'par2cmdline' package) is mature for widespread use. The original SourceForge Parchive project has been inactive since November 9, 2010. The par2cmdline github project has active development. The Issue I've discovered a update/packaging issue for the 'par' package. While working on packing another application and digging into its requirements I discovered this commit which introduces the error: https://build.opensuse.org/package/rdiff/Archiving/par?linkrev=base&rev=7 The error is that the 'par' package was updated/replaced with the source from the 'par2cmdline' project. These are 2 different programs (although one did evolve out of the other, but they're distinct projects). Here are some supporting statistics from other distributions: https://repology.org/project/par/versions https://repology.org/project/par2cmdline/versions As you can see, the openSUSE packages are probably named wrong. The Fix - For the 'par' package: I believe the correct course of action is to revert to using the http://parchive.sourceforge.net/ source and generating the /usr/bin/par binary. Currently this version should be 1.1. - For the 'par2cmdline' package: A new package called 'par2cmdline' should be built using the https://github.com/Parchive/par2cmdline source and generating the /usr/bin/par2* binaries. Currently this version should be 0.8.0. In doing so, to make the transition easy if any packages are currently depending on the 'par' package, I've added "Provides: par = 0.8.0" and "Obsoletes: par < 0.8.0" to the 'par2cmdline' package. Closing Since these two packages are somewhat intertwined, I would like to get some feedback about these packages and if there are any concerns or changes that are needed. I will then submit to Factory for approval. Without understanding the above problem, the reasons might be difficult to understand. Hi everyone, This package would allow one to configure use cloud-init directly from Terraform without having to use workarounds. Using it in the openSUSE VMware images (vmdk) would improve a lot the user experience. It is already in `Devel:CaaSP:4.0`. It is just a configuration file and a Python file (cloud-init Datasource) and only two releases in a year. [opensuse-factory] Huge single-core performance loss with spectre v2 mitigation enabled (it's the default)

I use current TW on a Lenovo P72 laptop with a Core i7-8850H CPU. Some time ago, I decided it to compare Geekbench scores between kernel with (this is the default) and without vulnerability mitigations disabled. To disable mitigations, I used these kernel parameters: noibrs noibpb nopti https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/compare/12738676?baseline=12738264 nospectre_v1 I was astonished to see that the single-core score mitigated was 4579 vs 5843 the score with mitigations disabled, resulting in 21.6% performance loss ! Multi-core performance is unaffected. I finally isolated to nospectre_v2, which if specified is causing that huge bump in performance. So the spectre v2 mitigation is causing that huge single core performance loss. Geekbench comparison: default kernel vs kernel with nospectre_v2: https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/compare/12738751?baseline=12738676 Today, I tried Geekbench on Fedora 30 beta that got recently released. Without changing any kernel parameter it has the same performance than TW with nospectre_v2 !: TW default vs Fedora default: https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/compare/12738751?baseline=12738264 TW nospectre_v2 vs Fedora default https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/compare/12738676?baseline=12738264 So basically, TW has about 20% less single core performance by default, which in my opinion is some kind of bug. This seems to me a good candidate to explain why TW trailing in Phoronix recent benchmarks. And maybe an indication that there may be a performance issue with spectre v2 mitigation only in TW. [opensuse-factory] Bluetooh mouse etc. on kernel 5.1 (and 5.0.15+)

Hi everyone, I found that after Tumbleweed updated to kernel 5.1.2, my Bluetooth mouse would not work any more but run into a connect/disconnect cycle. I didn't find much about it a few days ago, but today, I got some good search results on the issue and ended up in https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=203643 which both tracks down the issue basically to the Bluetooth security fix that went into (I think) 5.1.1 and also 5.0.15 (Fedora people are now seeing it with their 5.0.16 kernel), and also links a proposed and apparently working fix.
