[opensuse-factory] Remove option "Update if newer version is available " and "Update unconditioanlly" in YaST Software management
by andythe_great 08 Sep '19

Hello,
>From what I understand, openSUSE TW should not be update with zypper up, which YaST software management has offer as "Update if newer version is available " and "Update unconditioanlly".
I think YaST should offer zypper dup when it found out the openSUSE version is TW.
Would it be a good idea?
Andy

I haven't said it's a right way, but it's an easiest way to get mpv working
now. Other way is to detect and downgrade libraries, because downgrading mpv
won't solve problem, problematic package is libshaderc_shared1.
Or just wait when that package would be rebuilt and come into next snapshot.
And BTW X11:Wayland/shaderc is development package for official
openSUSE:Factory/shaderc, so it's not unofficial, just development.

Hi,
you might already noticed, many Plasma 5 comic providers are failing by now.
Therefor, I created a package
home:frispete:Tumbleweed/plasma5-addons-comics
that contains fixed versions of xkcd and shithappens, and a new one,
perscheid. I sent the fixes to the author, but don't know, if he's still
interested in this stuff.
Feedback appreciated.
Cheers,
Pete

[opensuse-factory] Package firewalld should not yet replace SuSEfirewall2
by Freek de Kruijf 06 Sep '19

Now that the date is near when SuSEfirewall2 will be removed I finally looked
into what firewalld is offering.
My analyses are that firewalld just offers only very basic features. It lacks
however more advanced features like rate limiting and control over logging.
My conclusion is that SuSEfirewall2 should not yet be replaced by firewalld.
First firewalld should at least have the lacking features mentioned above.
I don't see any reason why SuSEfirewall2 should currently be replaced.
Maintenance on it is minimal, so it could still exits next to firewalld.

==== python-kiwi ====
Version update (9.18.10 -> 9.18.12)
- Bump version: 9.18.11 ? 9.18.12
- Added MicroOS integration test
The future technologies team is implementing a coreOS derivate
based on btrfs and some overlay technology. For supporting them
some changes were required in kiwi and thus we should add an
integration test build which makes use of this features.
- Add required cryptomount coding for EFI boot
For non EFI boot grub2-install has code which gets activated
through the GRUB_ENABLE_CRYPTODISK setting. However for the
EFI boot case no installation of boot code is needed and
therefore the grub earlyboot script has to run cryptomount
- Add /mnt to list of protected paths
On recursive removal make sure /mnt belong to the protected
elements. This Fixes #1170
- Added full encrypted image build test
- Extended LUKS encryption support
We supported luks encrypted images with the exception of the
boot partition because grub was not able to read from an
encrypted device at that time. Since some time grub is able
to read from an encrypted partition and this commit add
support for it. With this patch luks encrypted images will
no longer create an extra boot partition and the entire
system will be encrypted. The opening of the luks container
happens on the grub level only once. Customers can still
specify to use an unencrypted extra boot partition with the
bootpartition="true" flag. In this case the opening of the
luks containers happens on the systemd level as before.
This is related to Issue #1162
- remove '-z' option from rsync local copy calls
rsync's "compress" option just does not make any sense when rsync is
used to copy files locally, it only increases CPU usage and slows down
the process ;-)
- Delete SuSEfirewall2 from test builds
The package seems to be no longer present on suse
- Bump version: 9.18.10 ? 9.18.11
- Allow dracut initrd to be used with pxe type
The pxe image type builds a simple filesystem image plus a
custom initrd. That initrd is usually build from the kiwi
netboot image descriptions which implements a workflow to
fetch the filesystem image and deploy it as rootfs for a
pxe client. User who wants to implement their own handling
of the rootfs image in e.g a custom dracut module were not
able to build this image type because we did not allow
the initrd_system attribute for the pxe type
- Use message variable for long message text
- Fixed handling of bool values in initrd code
Some values evaluated in the initrd code are created in
the kiwi builder and passed in as a profile file. bool
values created by kiwi for use in shell scripts takes
the string 'true' or 'false' or are not set at all if not
specified in the kiwi XML description. Some code paths
in the initrd code uses the '-n' switch to check for bool
values, however if the string 'false' is passed '-n' will
do the wrong thing. Therefore a method for the initrd
code has been introduced to clearly handle bool values

- Fix character buffer size in ub_ctx_hosts.
- Option -V prints if TCP fastopen is available.
- Fix unittest valgrind false positive uninitialised value report,
where if gcc 9.1.1 uses -O2 (but not -O1) then valgrind 3.15.0
issues an uninitialised value for the token buffer at the str2wire.c
rrinternal_get_owner() strcmp with the '@' value. Rewritten to use
straight character comparisons removes the false positive. Also
valgrinds --expensive-definedness-checks=yes can stop this false
positive.
- Please doxygen's parser for "@" occurrence in doxygen comment.
- Fixup contrib/fastrpz.patch
- Remove warning about unknown cast-function-type warning pragma.
- Document limitation of pidfile removal outside of chroot directory.
- Fix log_dns_msg to log irrespective of minimal responses config.
- Fix that pkg-config is setup before --enable-systemd needs it.
- change tmpfiles-unbound.conf from /var/run/ to /run/ to silence
systemd-tmpfiles warning

=== Details ===
==== glib-networking ====
Subpackages: glib-networking-lang
- Move LICENSE_EXCEPTION to %license.
==== hplip ====
Subpackages: hplip-hpijs hplip-sane
- Renamed "hplip-scan" to "hplip-scan-utils" to express the
purpose of the package more clearly in the name.
"hplip-scan" has never been in public repos.
- Added conditional BuildRequires on "cups-rpm-helper".
Recently a bug in python-pycups was fixed that had prevented
autogeneration of Provides: tags in printer drivers by means
of "BuildRequires: python3-cups". See OBS sr#726727. This
dependency must be conditional for now, as cups-rpm-helper
is not available in every project yet.
- Ran spec-cleaner.
- Removed compatibility code for SLE12/Leap42 and earlier
As we are now using rpm 4.13 (A and B) syntax, we can't support
these any more anyway.
- Moved hp-scan and hp-uiscan to a separate package "hp-scan".
These tools pull in PIL and python3-scikit-image, which causes
a rather big dependency list, which is only available in openSUSE.
This allows us also to get rid of the non-functional "hp-scan" tool
in SLE.
- Fixed --with-htmldir so that documentation is packaged
- Improved package descriptions and summaries
* Clarified the relationship of hplip-hpijs, hplip-sane, and hplip
* Shortened the descriptions
* Removed reference to HTML documention in package description
- Added -devel dependencies as required by post-build-checks
- Minor spec file cleanup (macro usage)
- Fixed build failures on non-standard architectures by adding BuildIgnore
These failures are actually caused by some ports catching up
slowly with package updates. But our BuildIgnores are helpful
nonetheless, making the build environment leaner.
==== libgnome-games-support ====
Version update (1.4.3 -> 1.4.4)
Subpackages: libgnome-games-support-1-3 libgnome-games-support-lang
- Update to version 1.4.4:
+ Fix build with new gettext.
==== libktorrent ====
Version update (2.1 -> 2.1.1)
Subpackages: libKF5Torrent6 libktorrent-lang
- Update to version 2.1.1
* Fix HTTP seeding (kde#382375)
* Fix a few issues found by clang-tidy
* Some build fixes that get triggered on certain versions of
Qt/KF5 frameworks
- Drop fix-build-with-qt5.6.patch, merged upstream
- Drop require-lower-LibGMP.patch, no longer necessary as all
current distribution versions have gmp 6
- Remove conditionals for no longer supported distribution versions
- Add missing requirements to the devel package
- Update URL, ktorrent.org doesn't exist any more
- Run spec-cleaner
==== libusb-1_0 ====
Version update (1.0.22 -> 1.0.23)
- Update to version 1.0.23
* Core: abandon synchronous transfers when device closure is
detected.
* Core: fix error in handling the removal of file descriptors
while handling events.
* New API libusb_set_log_cb() to redirect global and per context
log messages to the provided log handling function.
* New API libusb_wrap_sys_device to allow the user to specify
the usb device to use.
* Various other bug fixes and improvements.
==== nghttp2 ====
- Conditionally remove dependecy on jemalloc for SLE-12
==== patterns-base ====
Subpackages: patterns-base-apparmor patterns-base-base patterns-base-basesystem patterns-base-basic_desktop patterns-base-console patterns-base-documentation patterns-base-enhanced_base patterns-base-minimal_base patterns-base-sw_management patterns-base-transactional_base patterns-base-x11 patterns-base-x11_enhanced
- use obsolete_legacy_pattern macro for readability
- drop _opt patterns and integrate them into main patterns to reduce complexity
==== perl-YAML-LibYAML ====
Version update (0.79 -> 0.80)
- Remove perl-YAML-LibYAML-no-plan.patch (not used anymore)
- updated to 0.80
see /usr/share/doc/packages/perl-YAML-LibYAML/Changes
0.80 Thu 22 Aug 2019 01:17:13 PM CEST
- Fix memory leak when loading invalid YAML (PR#93 tinita)
==== rubygem-addressable ====
Version update (2.6.0 -> 2.7.0)
- New upstream release 2.7.0
* added `:compacted` flag to `normalized_query`
* `heuristic_parse` handles `mailto:` more intuitively
* refactored validation to use a prepended module
* dropped explicit support for JRuby 9.0.5.0
* compatibility w/ public_suffix 4.x
* performance improvements
==== srt ====
Version update (1.3.3 -> 1.3.4)
- Backported commit 47e5890 and 64875fa to fix CVE-2019-15784
(boo#1148844) and avoid a potential array overflow.
* Added CVE-2019-15784.patch
- Update to version 1.3.4:
+ Various bugfixes and feature enhancments.
==== wavpack ====
Version update (5.1.0~git20190420.22977b2 -> 5.1.0+71.22977b2)
- Change version to 5.1.0+71.22977b2:
+ This tarball is created from git master, which is 71 commits
AHEAD of 5.1.0; thus, 5.1.0~xxx is wrong, as this implies a
version leading up to 5.1.0. Other than that, there is no
change in the sources: it's the same commit as before
(22977b2).
==== webkit2gtk3 ====
Version update (2.24.3 -> 2.24.4)
Subpackages: libjavascriptcoregtk-4_0-18 libwebkit2gtk-4_0-37 libwebkit2gtk3-lang typelib-1_0-JavaScriptCore-4_0 typelib-1_0-WebKit2-4_0 webkit2gtk-4_0-injected-bundles
- Update to version 2.24.4 (boo#1148931):
+ Updated the user agent string to make happy certain websites
which would claim that the browser being used was unsupported.
+ Improve loading of multimedia streams to avoid memory
exhaustion due to excessive caching.
+ Fix display of documents with MIME type application/xml in the
Web Inspector, when loaded using XmlHttpRequest.
+ Fix a hang while scrolling certain websites which include HLS
video content (Twitter, for example).
+ Fix rounding artifacts in volume levels for media playback.
+ Fix several crashes and rendering issues.
+ Fix the build with video track support disabled.
+ Fix the build with OpenGL support disabled.
+ Fix build issue which would cause media controls to disappear
when Python 3.x was used during the build process.
+ Security fixes: CVE-2019-8644, CVE-2019-8649, CVE-2019-8658,
CVE-2019-8669, CVE-2019-8678, CVE-2019-8680, CVE-2019-8683,
CVE-2019-8684, CVE-2019-8688.
- Drop webkit2gtk3-bwo197558-hang.patch: Fixed upstream.
==== xorg-x11-server ====
Subpackages: xorg-x11-server-extra xorg-x11-server-sdk xorg-x11-server-wayland
- added patches required for NVIDIA's PRIME render offload support,
which is available since release 435.xx:

[opensuse-factory] Dependencies of python3-qt5-devel, hplip build failures for ppc64 and armv7l
by Martin Wilck 05 Sep '19
by Martin Wilck 05 Sep '19
05 Sep '19
Hi,
the hplip build fails on openSUSE:Factory:PowerPC because of the
following dependency change:
hplip (buildreq) -> python3-qt5-devel -> libqt5-qttools-devel
-> libqt5-qttools-doc -> clang = 8.0.0
... because clang is unavailable on ppc64.
Likewise, the following chain breaks the build on armv7l:
hplip (buildreq) -> python3-qt5-devel -> libqt5-qtwebengine-devel
-> libavcodec58 -> libdav1d.so.1
It seems that I can fix my build using #!BuildIgnore. Yet I'd like to
question whether these are really hard dependencies. Is it reasonable
to require libavcodec to be installed in order to compile for Qt5?
Regards,
Martin

Hi all,
A few days ago, I decided to package Pijul and submit it to Factory.
Although Git is the king when it comes to version control systems (at
least in the opensource world), there are other alternatives which
implement different approaches. And Pijul could be one of those
alternatives.
Pijul, which is written in Rust, is based in a theory of patches[1] and
it was born as an attempt to solve Darcs[2] performance problems. If
you are interested, please, just have a look at the project's
website[3].
Until the package lands into Factory[4], you can find it in its devel
project[5].
Regards,
Imo

[opensuse-factory] lightdm & kwallet - sddm doesn't remember last session
by Alex Christoph Bihlmaier 04 Sep '19
by Alex Christoph Bihlmaier 04 Sep '19
04 Sep '19
Good Morning.
Due to an annoying sddm bug (https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues/510)
the session selector in sddm doesn't save the last session per user,
instead it saves the last used session regardless of the user.
This is annoying, because userA wants to use XFCE and userB wants to use
KDE.
Therefore I am using lightdm (which saves last session per user).
But what's missing in this picture with lightdm is that lightdm is
unable to open the kwallet when selecting/starting KDE.
I installed "pam_kwallet" but it doesn't seem to integrate well with PAM
because after logging in with KDE it asks for password to unlock kwallet.
Is anyone using this setup?
Is a multiuser/multi-DM environment that esoteric? :)
thanks!
Alex

Hello,
My name is Igor. I'm long-time contributor in Fedora and started
recently to contribute to the openSUSE with focus on cross-distro
collaboration. I'm also contributor to many upstream projects which
includes RPM.
You can see my oSC19 talk here:
https://events.opensuse.org/conferences/oSC19/program/proposals/2489
There are still few things which are different between Fedora and
openSUSE spec files for rust packages, more specifically those are
license header, Group tag and changelog. While license header and
changelog things are not easy to fix, the Group one is.
In Fedora, we have removed all Group tags in F30:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/Remove_Group_Tag
Groups are hard to choose (I would rather prefer to see some kind of
tags), there is no check from RPM itself (it is basically free-form
text field) and usually you can't put application into one group
because they belong to multiple groups.
I spoke to a few people on the oSC and it seems that only YaST is
using this information to generate UI. So it should be doable to
change its representation which is not based on the Group tag.
Considering above, is there some process like Fedora Changes
(https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/Policy) in openSUSE where I
can propose this?

Hi,
How important is i586 from the Factory/Tumbleweed submission point of
view? I got a bug report for syslog-ng on Aarch64 in Tumbleweed. It
seems, that a simple version upgrade resolved the problem:
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1143190#c3
On the other hand there is a bug in bison
(https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1143190#c3) so syslog-ng
does not build on i586 right now.
Can I still submit syslog-ng 3.22.1 to Factory, knowing that due to that
bison bug it does not build on i586 right now?
Bye,
CzP

Hello,
the SUSE security team wants to change part of our process in a way that will
affect (open)SUSE packagers. Several features in a package currently produce
rpmlint errors that ask packagers to submit the package for a review by the
security team. E.g.:
- Adding a setuid binary
- Changing polkit settings
This is described here:
https://en.opensuse.org/index.php?title=openSUSE:Package_security_guideline…
The current approach (error by rpmlint) has the drawback that this also
triggers in devel projects. So if you package something with a setuid binary
but don't intend to make this package part of (open)SUSE you will still see the
errors. You then either have to suppress them or we have to spend effort on
reviewing something that's not in an official distribution.
We want to change these errors into warnings without badness (first only in
Factory, but in short order also for openSUSE:* and SUSE:* too). You will still
see a warning that informs you that you need to go through a review if you want
it in an official distribution. This is then enforced by adding reviews for the
security team to each request made to an official distribution if these
warnings are present. Once the changes have been reviewed and whitelisted the
warnings will vanish.
The upside for you is that you can already use/test your packages in the devel
project without being blocked by build errors.
We hope to make the process faster and easier for everyone involved. Nothing
will change for you if:
- you don't need special permissions in you package
- you need special permissions and they were already checked by the
security team
If you see one of these warnings they describe what you need to do to get your
submits through without an additional review being added to the submit. We have
a constant flow of audit bugs, so please open you audit request as early as
possible so that we don't introduce a delay in your request while we review the
changes.
If you have any questions please ask away (please CC me) or contact
security(a)suse.de
Thanks,
Johannes for the SUSE security team

Hello,
I'd like to propose adding /usr/libexec to the openSUSE FHS and
reverting the definition of %_libexecdir in rpm back to /usr/libexec
so that libexec content is installed there.
Currently, openSUSE overrides rpm to define %_libexecdir as /usr/lib,
which leads to pollution of the /usr/lib directory with executable
content as well as 64-bit content when there shouldn't be any. The
/usr/libexec has been in use on RH/Fedora and Mageia systems in the
Linux world, but has its origins in BSD and is still used today in
BSDs and variants (like Mac OS X). The usage of /usr/libexec for
libexec content has also been recognized by FHS with v3.0, released in
2015. In the Linux distribution landscape (that is, all major
families, not just RPM ones), /usr/libexec is in use on Red Hat,
Mandrake, Gentoo, and Slackware families.
This is a breaking change, as it means that as packages are rebuilt,
libexec content *should* migrate from /usr/lib to /usr/libexec. The
major advantage of migrating the libexec content is that it will make
openSUSE consistent with other major RPM-based Linux distributions,
and ease efforts in supporting SUSE distributions along with Red Hat
ones by removing the need for hacks and tweaks to support two
different hierarchies. This simplifies the portability headaches in
supporting both distribution families, and makes it easier for
applications that were originally aimed for RHEL/CentOS to run on
SLE/openSUSE Leap.
This change would be done in three stages:
1. Make the change to the filesystem package to add /usr/libexec to
the hierarchy.
2. Add /usr/libexec to allowed prefixes in rpmlint-checks and remove
spec-cleaner rule that assumes /usr/lib == %_libexecdir.
3. Make the change to the rpm package to set %_libexecdir back to
/usr/libexec. This one will cause a fair bit of work to fix packages
that do the wrong thing one way or another with %_libexecdir.
What do you all think?
Best regards,
Neal
