[opensuse-factory] Quick update regarding Tumbleweed Snapshots and review site

As luck would have it, some hiccups occurred during travel for the conference and I did not have enough bandwidth to resolve until I returned. Everything with both Tumbleweed Snapshots and the review site has been fixed and should work fine going forward. All the snapshots should be covered on review site, but there was a delay in including the latest ones. As for the snapshots they skip from 20180517 to 20180528. If you are looking to try out Tumbleweed Snapshots please refrain from doing so until you are running one of the snapshots outside of the missed range. [opensuse-factory] NVidia-problems with after snapshot 20180524

Hi, After installing snapshot 20180524, with kernel 4.16.10-1-default, I can only boot successfully in recovery-mode. When trying to boot kernel 4.16.10-1-default in standard mode, I get no graphical display, only flashing text, and it is impossible to login. I have encountered this many times lately (and read the postings on this list about the root cause), but I could always repair it by installing the latest proprietary driver from NVidia, now NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-396.24.run. This time installation of that driver seems to go fine, but after rebooting the result is the same. In recovery mode, as would be expected, the display settings are not optimal, and I can't use the second display. Maybe related to this issue: a long time already I get warnings on 'Mesa-dri-nouveau': ==================================================================== WARNING: Nouveau DRI/3D driver selected. This driver is considered experimental and is known to have issues with applications that use certain 3D acceleration features of modern NVIDIA hardware. Symptoms include application crashes or lockups & crashes of your system's graphical environment. Use of this driver is especially not recommended for use with the KDE Desktop Environment or Qt-based Applications. The hardware vendor potentially offers alternative drivers. In the past I tried to uninstall that driver, but that gave so many dependency issues I gave up. PS1: I didn't install the latest TW-snapshot, because of the perl-issue, reported here already, but I'm not sure if the upgrade to kernel 4.16.11 would help. PS2: Motherboard is GA-MA770-DS3rev2.0, CPU AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955, GPU GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. lsmod reports the nvidia-driver active. I'm running OpenSUSE Tumbleweed. Hello OpenSUSE dev, The recent update of perl5 (5.26.1 -> 5.26.2) has broken the texlive-biber-bin package, which is used to manage bibliographies in TeX documents. The biber package apparently requires Perl 5.26.1, which is no longer available due to the recent (hopefully non-breaking) perl upgrade. Is it possible to easily update the biber package at some point this week? I'm not sure where to start looking, but if I can complete the fix myself, please point me in the proper direction. https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1084864 Bug 1084864 - YaST module names are too similar to some desktop environment configuration modules > YaST, GNOME, KDE Plasma and Enlightenment all have configuration modules named "Fonts" and a YaST module with the same exact name shows up when searching for "fonts" in all 3 DEs. This is not currently too much of a problem for users because the YaST Fonts module uses an icon representing X11 instead of an icon representing fonts, but there's no way to tell the difference without the icon. This will also be a problem for me because I am working on a KDE Breeze theme for YaST and intend to change the icon of the YaST Fonts module to a proper fonts icon. > > Fixing this problem will require changes to the code of yast-control-center and changes to the .desktop files shown for all YaST modules. > > 1. Hello, avogadrolibs is currently an optional dependency of Kalzium and is currently developed in KDE:Applications. However, it's not really specific to KDE software. It could use a dedicated maintainer and a better development project than KDE:. Hence this call for adoption. Is anyone interested in maintaining this package? If so, let us know (and propose an alternative devel project for it). If we can't find a dedicated maintainer for avogadrolibs within the next 4 weeks we'll have to drop it and build kalzium without its support.
