[opensuse-factory] Leap 15 - Firefox ESR package

All, I tried FF 59 that came with Leap 15, as opposed to 52.7.3 (ESR) that is packages for 42.3. 59 is basically unusable for me without stepping through about:config and tweaking settings individually. Further given the changes between 52-59, many of the addons are poorly re-written and cumbersome (NoScript 10 is a perfect example) I don't know how difficult it would be to make ESR available as an alternative, but it would be welcomed. -- David C. [opensuse-factory] Leap 15 187.1 - /etc/SuSE-release not present (os-release is present)

All, This is an oddity that has broken some configuration scripts of mine. For the first time since 7.0 (Air), there is no /etc/SuSE-release. I don't know if this is intentional or not. There is an /etc/os-release present. A simple softlink will correct the problem. While probably not common, the lack of /etc/SuSE-release has causes problem in my .bashrc where there are conditionals for configuration depending on the os installed., e.g. if test -e "/etc/SuSE-release" then ... else if test -e "/etc/arch-release" then ... I don't know the reason it's not included, maybe it's due to the Beta status, but it may be something to consider restoring so that others aren't caught by surprise. I can just symlink it, or parse the output of os-release, but providing the link would continue two-decades of consistency. -- David C. All, When using a minimal x-install, xfe (X file explorer) is a good, lightweight, file explorer. Yes, you have mc, but there is no graphical equivalent that doesn't drag in a number of dependencies. All, I opened an issue with Geany due to the toolbar icon spacing causing the search input and button, goto input and button and quit button to spill off the right side of the toolbar. https://github.com/geany/geany/issues/1825 This was a duplicate of a previous reported problem: https://github.com/geany/geany/issues/1746 I put a screenshot of the problem on paste.opensuse: http://paste.opensuse.org/66000052 This is an especially acute problem for smaller screen widths. The Geany devs note that this is a Gtk+3 problem, not a Geany issue and they cannot do anything to fix it until it is fixed in Gtk+3. To resolve this problem, I rebuilt Geany with Gtk+2 and the spacing problem is gone. All toolbar inputs and buttons fit on the toolbar with room to spare. I put a comparison screenshot on paste.opensuse at: http://paste.opensuse.org/14174908 Until the spacing issue is fixed in Gtk+3, we should consider building with Gtk+2. [opensuse-factory] Leap Beta 197.1 - Disabling Wayland to load Xorg seems to fail

Hi, I have an issue with Leap Beta 197.1 not detecting my external screen out-of-the-box so I tried to fix the issue by disabling Wayland (in /etc/gdm/custom.conf) and see if it improves anything. FYI, I did this because Ubuntu 17.10 detects my external screen and i believe seeing in its Xorg logs it uses Xorg 1.19.x (I removed it some time ago so can't confirm Xorg version exactly). So, after reboot under Xorg, GDM shows the login screen for Gnome but after typing login and password, the system fails and doesn't respond to any keyboard sequence I tried (Ctrl-Alt-F1 to F12) so I'm unable to provide you with a journalctl or dmesg output. How can I provide more info ? Does this fallback to X11 supposed to work with Leap ? Maybe I need to install specific packages ? I can't provide an "inxi -F" output showing my hardware because the mailing list seems to deny me this right for an unkown reason :( You may want to know this is a 2017 Skylake laptop with Optimus, I use a LUKS /home partition which seems to be mounted properly in both cases. Hi, I just discovered a problem in ubuntu that most likely is in suse as well: POSIX requires for char -> wchar_t translations: In the POSIX locale an [EILSEQ] error cannot occur since all byte values are valid characters. but e.g. mbstowcs() aborts in the "C" locale when a non 7-bit ASCII character is discovered in the source string.
