[opensuse-factory] Bug in asynchronous firmware loading for wireless driver b43 in Leap 42.3

In bsc#1052060 Freek de Kruij reports a bug in firmware loading at bootup for b43 with Leap 42.3. I have confirmed the problem, and verified that Leap 42.2 and Tumbleweed work correctly. This is not a kernel problem as my tests were all done with a 4.13-rcX kernel. I suspect a udev problem; however, TW and 42.3 appear to be using the same revision for udev. [opensuse-factory] Rooting for AMD underdog - how about 4.13 AMD stuff e.g. turbostat, cpupower and proc/cpuinfo changes

Hi there, I prefer AMD underdog over monopolists any day and I read interesting stuff about new amd support on the 4.13 kernel, especially turbostat , changes made to /proc/cpuinfo not reflecting current MHz any more, cpupower and maybe lot of other neat stuff. Any chance for backport to 42.3 kernel and so on? [opensuse-factory] terminfo-base vs. KDE konsole

After updating to terminfo-base-6.0-27.2 the output of atop or iftop looks bad in my KDE konsole (TERM = xterm-256color). It's OK on a linux console (TERM = linux) or in xterm (TERM = xterm). Reverting to terminfo-base-6.0-26.1.x86_64 fixes the problem. Whom to blame: konsole or terminfo-base? [opensuse-factory] Next steps for Firefox on TW

Hi, I was pinged several times during the last weeks why Firefox is on ESR on TW and when it will be updated. As the current round of updates (to 52.3 and 55) is no done it's time to pick up the discussion again. People are rightfully asking why we cannot update to latest Firefox on a rolling distro at least and that is right. Let me repeat what have been the doubts doing so up to now/recently: (basically from https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2017-04/msg00926.html ) - Firefox … [View More]requires rust mandatorily now to build and rust needs presumably updated with every Firefox release in worst case. I think we (rust maintainer specifally) agreed that this is acceptable - Tumbleweed still supports i586 while Firefox requires SSE2 now (i686) -> This has been adressed meanwhile (took some weeks to get into Tumbleweed) by building rust to build the i686 toolchain. This somehow leads to the fact that some modern parts of openSUSE TW will be excluded now for i586 users. Anyway this blocker is currently resolved. - (almost) missing NPAPI support: I know there are quite some people who rely on Java plugins still. This fact leads to a requirement to add Firefox ESR to TW in parallel. (Please let me know if you don't think so ;-)) - Firefox 52 and 55 profiles are incompatible (more specific backwards incompatible) So to summarize it all leads to the current state and proposal: - it's technically possible to update MozillaFirefox to 55.0 now - I will add Firefox ESR as a _new_ package to TW called firefox-esr (recognize the small inconsistency in naming but MozillaFirefox is called like that for historical reasons. It provides also "firefox" as virtual name since many many years.) (still can be discussed) - the result is that current MozillaFirefox users will be upgraded to latest version and people who want to stay with ESR need to act. - there is one main question which I'm a bit undecided still: How to handle parallel installations? Do we want to allow that? This will need some patching work since otherwise both will run on the same profile. That is also the reason why switching between both is dangerous (remember the incompatible statement above). There is a technical way to circumvent this (still to be verified) by changing the profile patch for ESR away from .mozilla to something else (.mozilla-esr?) but this will be an openSUSE specific thing! So this would be my proposal but I'm still looking for feedback especially to the last item. If possible please keep replies focused to the topic. [opensuse-factory] Wireless Network Adapter disconnects

Hi, I have Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter and after latest snapshot (20170817) my notebook after cca 10 minutes started to disconnect from wifi router. NM applet shows it's connected, but there is no access. What is strange that I have tested it on 2 routers and it disconnects only from turris omnia! Workaround is to run nmcli con up <NAME>. Dear all, It seems it is not possible to install the latest official release of OpenJDK (1.8.0, from the update repository) together with the latest official release of SeaMonkey (2.48, from the mozilla repository) on Leap 42.3. Zypper and YaST tell me that this is because seamonkey-2.48-1.3.x86_64 requires mozilla-nspr >= 4.15, whereas java-1_8_0-openjdk-headless-1.8.0.144-13.3.x86_64 requires mozilla-nss = 3.28.5. Hi, I've not checked all bug-tracker itemes, so I don't know if this is new or known. Since many years (I don't remind well, but first version was 2.x), I use SuSE/openSUSE. Since some the beginning I use the Tumbleweed bild only with some small boot issues. Due to a HW upgrade, I used for installation the current tumbleweed builds (openSUSE-Tumbleweed-DVD-x86_64-Current.iso) with Snapshots 2017082x (x=2, 3, 5 if I remind well). So I've seen some issues during installation in all … [View More]versions. My finding 1. Generation from bootable USB 3.0 memory device with ImageWriter was quite easy - but on the end, I can't see if this was well finished (closed without any remark - e.g. please remove device /dev/sdx - programming well finished) 2. Boot with EFI security works fine, but it starts as default in installation mode - from my point of view, it is better to wait unlimited - due to a longer installation, the reboot back in installation first step without any remark also confused me and I don't know if the installation was well done 3. If I switch the language on the first page to German (remark no German guy search "German" - all will search "Deutsch", so the sorting should be done with Deutsch/German - so an entering of D will switch in the correct region) Automatically, the keyboard layout will be selected as "Deutsch" - and if I test it in the offered field, it works fine. 4. After this, I changed the from my point of view to a better drive/partition mapping with encryption and using the more stable ext4 (due to full root drive issues more than 5 times in the past with the beta or buggy btrfs). But the main issue is, that I can enter a password e.g. with ä,ö,ü or simple y/z. If I test the correct entry also later in the user field - it works fine (due to the usage from correct German keyboard layout). 5. Selection from my unchanged preferred desktop KDE and installation - works still fine. Only in version from 20180822, also automatically the grub was switcht to password security (but not shown nicer in overview nor in configuration window). 6. After installation, the window is showing again the Language selection (reason also described in 2.). After a reboot without installation stick, grub requests a passwort => ok, after trail and error, I find out it is the same as used for the encryption key - and additional replacement from German keys with the English ones works. Same issue for sure in the partition encryption password field (sometimes this translation is no more so easy for me, so the last use of an English keyboard was for more than 40 years). After booting, the same behavior, Language and Formating was well switched but keyboard was still the English one. This can easily fixed with using yast and switching to a other one in Keyboard or Language menu and afterwords back to German (both works similar so I know after around 10 times of installation) After selection and test of the functionality of a well working Keyboard Language selection, also the Passwort entry works like expected with the typed characters like in installation. Remark: looks for me, like the keyboard layout settings was not correct copied to the installation 7. After reconfiguration of the installation (remove of the installation source - USB stick - and including of only online repositories and packman. The system works fine on my Intel NUC 7I7BNHX1 Intel Core i7 i7-7567U 2 x 3.5 GHz and 16GB Intel Optane™ M.2, which I have used as cache (after some crazy effects - I kicked it out and replaced it with a M.2 SSD 250 GB Samsung 960 EVO Retail MZ-V6E250BW PCIe 3.0 x4 and also kicked out my old 128GB Samsung 840 pro SSD MZ7pD128HCFV If the trouble with not correct working booting in all Snapshots and suspend trouble in version 20170823 remains, I let you know. Hi, since I upgraded to latest TW yesterday morning my system is under full load , mainly by akonadiserver, dbus-daemon and mysql. Swap and main memory (8GB each) are fully used, and system is heavily swapping. I hardly can believe that indexing 10GB Mail data and 200 GB files takes more than 10h....on a core i7 with SSD. Tried to log-off and restart the system, but did not help Anyone else observing this? Any ideas for a solution? … [View More]
