[opensuse-factory] acpid requires systemd?

Can this be true? If so, why? Zypper won't let me upgrade acpid without breakage unless systemd is installed too. [opensuse-factory] receiving files via bluetooth fails

Some months ago it was possible to receive files via bluetooth with TW. But since some weeks that fails for me. Then I created it with mkdir -m07777, and that just gives the EPERM error as before. strace shows that it gets some "forbidden" from dbus. Is receiving files working for anyone else? Also the rfkill thing does not work reliable. NetworkManager finds the device according to syslog, but the GNOME bluetooth thing finds nothing. [opensuse-factory] add pam_faillock for factory, 42.2, SLES 12 SP2

I'd consider adding it as an update, too, to 42.1 and SP1, at least in aux repositories - preferably to updates :-). I've spoken with the author of pam_faillock and I believe it to be superior to pam_tally2, particularly concerning handling of screensaver handling. pam_faillock is part of the recommended RHEL configuration for secured computers and holding out for pam_tally2 also presents a nasty non-uniformity for nearly the same functionality (although, weaker). I've asked the author, Tomas Mraz, to make the patch available standalone - which he has provided here: http://people.redhat.com/tmraz/pam_faillock/ I would've have submitted my branch against factory pam incorporating the patch - but unfortunately I seem to be having some automake/libtool issues in the build that I cannot figure out - so I'm going to have to leave that effort to someone who knows those build tools better than I. [opensuse-factory] How can calibre be allowed access through YaST firewall?

Unlike rsync, or KDE Connect, there is no option to automatically allow the Calibre ebook manager to open ports so external devices can connect to it. So far, my solution has been to disable the firewall before connecting my device to Calibre via the Calibre Companion app on Android. For those unfamiliar with the process, Calibre Companion can sync ebooks from the desktop's library to the Android device's library, thus eliminating the need for wires and further organization of books. If I know I am using port 9090 for Calibre, is there a way to allow this connection in the Firewall? Has anyone else attempted this setup? [opensuse-factory] Gstreamer*0.10* for sale!

More than 3 years ago upstream said enough is enough and pulled the plug on gst-0_10 branch, and ever since then we the gnome-maintainers have been carrying around the abandoned packages, both because we care and at the time of upstreams kill-off point we had a lot of packages depending on them. Since then we have quietly been porting the ones we care about or dropping them from Tumbleweed. We have however now reached a point where we can not in good conscious say that we care for gst-0_10 at all anymore, and would as a result offer up maintainership of said packages for those that still depend on them / want them to stay in Tumbleweed. Currently osc whatdependson openSUSE:Factory gstreamer-0_10 standard x86_64 gives this list [see end of email] of depending packages. If you as a maintainer are affected, please consider stepping up and requesting maintainer via obs or email. The above said, maintenance burden is not very high currently, so don't fear taking responsibility, it mainly consists of tweaking packages to ensure their continued build. As a maintainer though I'd prefer that we could drop gst-0_10 from TW all the way, but acknowledge that this is not currently possible, but if everyone who have packages still depend on gst-0_10* do a real push to port or drop packages still dependent we could perhaps take the easy route out and just drop gstreamer-0_10. //Bjørn - on behalf of openSUSE GNOME maintainers. [opensuse-factory] Transitioning to GCC 6

You may have noticed that GCC 6 packages appeared in Factory (but gcc used for building packages still points to GCC 5). Somewhen in January I set up openSUSE:Factory:Staging:Gcc6 where GCC 6 is used to build packages. The status of that is that it depends on the glibc update pending in Staging:B and it still requires fixing a few packages, mostly -Werror related. There was a point in time where openQA was green for x86_64 (and Minimal-X). Once Staging:B has been accepted I'll formally submit an update to gcc to make it point to GCC 6 thus obsoleting the above Staging:Gcc6. That staging can nevertheless be used to look at the current FAILs which are build failed cluster-glue failed elfutils failed espeak failed gdb failed jack failed libyui failed llvm failed mozilla-nss failed pesign failed python3-base failed xen failed and can also be caused by the glibc update which I pulled into Staging:Gcc6. Any help is appreciated. [opensuse-factory] NVMe based laptop?

Hoping to get access to a laptop with a NVMe / M.2 storage subsystem later today. (a Alienware laptop purchased in March or April). Note NVMe is not sata/scsi based. It's a different data bus. Does anyone know what device it should create? /dev/sda is for devices under the overarching SCSI driver including those handled by libata. I don't know if NVMe is layered under the SCSI driver or not? I'll try the latest Tumbleweed boot media with it via attaching an external DVD. Is this tech known to work with Tumbleweed? Hi all, I'm really sorry to bother you with this package but it has unresolveable dependencies so it can't be installed. Right now If I force the installation I get: "sqlitebrowser: error while loading shared libraries: libqhexedit.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" The libraries that are missing should be compiled with the main source as they are part of it and the spec file adapted accordingly to install them. A second options could be a static link of the libraries generated in the main executable. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't know how to help further. [opensuse-factory] Time for SAMBA-AD?

Hi, maybe this comes up from time to time - so here is the next one ;-) Currently, the samba4 spec file includes an option to build with AD support. I guess this is seldom tested, at least packaging is currently broken, but fix is trivial. I have not done any further tests. There is currently no big distro I know with support for AD. One of the reasons seem to be that it cannot used with the heimdal kerberos implementation used by many distros. I'm not sure if this still holds, because samba provides its own kerberos implementation. Of course there can't be two servers at the same time, but I guess this is no show stopper. Assume we have a working samba package with AD option enabled. I can understand that this topic is complex one, so neither the community nor openSUSE will be able to support this - maybe I'm wrong. My point is that we should at least have a working package with AD support (it builds and packages ok, maybe some minimal automatic tests are done - at least those included in samba already) and explicitly mention in some README that AD support is experimental and support is limited. The hope is to find a number of testers so simple fixes (building, packaging, ...) can be included. Something openSUSE can build upon later. Ideally later, a group can form with enough interest and knowledge to do some limited community support. But again, this requires AD support to be enabled. Opinions? Marc

[opensuse-factory] after big gcc6 update I keep getting "no space left on device"

Hi all, When the big update with the gcc6 arrived I did my usual dist-upgrade. Despite having at least 7Gb of free space on /, it took me 3 or 4 attempts to finish the installation because of "no space left on device". With a combination of removing some file in /tmp, logout-login and some waiting I managed to install all the packages and rebooted. But then I started getting "no space left on device" for no apparent reason (I've also rebooted a couple of times in the meanwhile). I randomly get it e.g. when trying to install something with pip, doing tab-completion on bash or using sudo. Often after a few minutes the problem disappears by itself for some time. Today I was trying to create a python virtual environment and got this: OSError: [Errno 28] No space left on device: '/usr/tmp/tmpzrux9b_p' I have no idea of what is going on, as I have plenty of space available. To whom i may concern... I believe proprietary graphics drivers are not a top issue for most of you, but beginning with TW 20160625 I've been fighting with scaling and resolution issues. I wouldn't even send this mail to the list, but I'm wondering why Gnome 3 is the only desktop I've checked where all is fine - the compositor and screen resolution. Furthermore, the same nvidia driver version, now just recompiled, worked until TW 20160613 as expected. Current configuration: Using a 64-bit OS with the latest nvidia 367.21 (have also tried 364.19 with the patch for gcc6). Tumbleweed currently 20160626. Hardware: HP ZBook 15 G2 with discrete Optimus graphics: NVIDIA Quadro K610M (GK208) I'm mainly faced with scaling issues in the desktop environments - Plasma, XFCE, IceWM, launched from sddm. Most of the fonts and elements are scaled too big (about the factor 2 by estimation), concerning also non-KDE apps like Chromium, IntelliJ IDEA, Firefox etc., even KDE apps like kcalc, but just in the problematic desktops envs, in Gnome they are rendered correctly. There is no specific overridden default setting in KDE or elsewhere for scaling or font size, all affecting settings and themes come from the Tumbleweed default. I've checked already the EDID information the NVidia driver aquires from my hardware and the parameter there look fine (dimensions, resolution). Also Xorg apps like xterm are displayed correctly. There is no indication the graphics driver or X Server would do this job wrong. I'm not sure where to report this, Qt 5.6.1(?), KDE(?) but why also in XFCE(?). Another interesting issue: nouveau in KMS mode renders correctly, but unfortunately is not stable, I get still system freezes each time after using it. But this hang is a different story, already reported to where it belongs. I wonder whether this is a general problem or just a very hardware-specific. Is there anyone having similar trouble? Has anyone a hint where else to check or report? FYI I experimented with a python:stable in my home project (home:jenewton:python:stable). I get a build error on libatlas3 coming from devel:languages:python3, which I've linked the project to, along with devel:languages:python:Factory. libatlas3 is linked to from the Factory project, but that package isn't there anymore. I have many inherited packages but it seems like there's no packages available this experimental python:stable repository - is this normal when using linked projects? I have been trying to get Tumbleweed under Oracle VirtualBox and I cant get it to work. It does not start KDE but ends un in the command prompt for user ID and password. I stick these in but still no KDE. I do a startx but it get a couple of pages of errors. Does anyone have this running successfully? My VirtualBox is at the latest level. The other possibilty is my system is running Windows 10 with the insider preview installed. Win 10 and the preview are also at the latest level. Until next week I will not have a system I can run Tumbleweed native as I am short of PC's at the moment. [opensuse-factory] Search for maintainer: gurlchecker

Good morning everybody, the package gurlchecker is on the lookout for a new maintainer. It has been failing to bulld for quite a while now (see also https://bu gzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=985409 ) but the current maintainer seems no longer to have much interest and/or time available to dedicate to this package. If you feel it's important for us to keep this package around, be it because you rely on the package, or just because you like it being there, please take the opportunity to make a change. Work on fixing the current build failure (this failed well before GCC6 was coming (gtk-doc update actually). If you take on the challenge to maintain this package make sure to also have you set as maintainer / bugowner, so that future issues can be properly assigned to you. If nobody steps up, I'm afraid this package will be moved to the wastebasket soon. Cheers, Dominique

Unable to get a copy of the log during startup but some more info copied from the screen. I started with "sudo startx" The following is displayed XINIT using config file /usr/share/x11/xorg.conf.d (EE) server terminated error(1) connection refused The VMbox logfile shows per attached VMbox log files. Not sure how I can get the logfiles from the linux virtual system disk. I hope to get another PC system running before the end of the week and I can then run the linux system on real hardware, I also had notification that there was a new version of VMbox and installed that and tried again with the same results. On getting access tyo the linux logs can I get a copy of KDE Live DVD and start it up (assuming it will work) and use it to access the log files? Thanks, Andy

I will get the logs etc but before I try to do that I just wanted a "heads up" if this was a known problem. unfortunally my experience is IBM hardware and VM, MVS, CP/M and MP/M then linux in that order so it might take me a couple of days to sort that out! I've created multimedia:libs/wxWidgets-3_0-nostl which is a copy of X11:wxWidgets / wxWidgets-3_0 that is built without Standard Template Library (stl). The reason for this is that due to the fact that no other major distribution builds wxWidgets with stl the audacity developers aren't interested in fixing their software to build with stl enabled wxWidgets. I've had audacity 2.1.2 waiting to be submitted since February due to this problem and 2.1.3 will be released soon. sr#405087 to Factory. Hi, tl;dr 42.2 Alpha2 is on the mirrors, get it from http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/42.2/iso/ Since Alpha1 lots of components from SLE 12SP2 could be integrated, among them an updated YaST, a full GNOME 3.20 update, samba 4.4, systemd 228, glibc 2.22. Mesa 11.2, cmake 3.5 etc. KDE wasn't updated yet so testing Alpha2 probably makes more sense on GNOME right now. Bugzilla is awaiting your reports¹. Some of those updates like cmake and glibc cause other packages to fail building. So the amount of broken packages in 42.2 has increased quite a bit, according to the dashboard² we have 181 unresolvable or failed packages right now. Help to analyze and fix the issues is appreciated there. The next Alpha is schedule for July 20th, so please submit³ your fixes and package updates no later than July 15th.
