[opensuse-factory] Snapshot archive or other fallback options?

My question is probably a FAQ question: Are there any public Tumbleweed snapshot archives? If not, are there any plans for this? (For a small amount of packages I can easily make my own archive with the option "keeppackages=1" in a repository (*.repo) file. I do this for instance for Kernel packages from Kernel:stable repository. If the newest Kernel causes some problems (which is very seldom), I can manually downgrade to an older version (together with the older kernel-source package), re-install the NVidia driver and other additional modules and reboot. But with thousands of installed packages this is impracticable.) It seems 20160321 skipped openQA and snpashot while being released to TW oss repo (http://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/repo/oss/suse/x86_64/) Noticed on my dashboard before updating http://tumbleweed.boombatower.com/. [opensuse-factory] Many empty directories in /usr/lib and /usr/lib64 and RPM SPEC failures

One of my openSUSE boxes runs since 2010 and has seen all openSUSE distributions in the time frame, now it runs with Tumbleweed. After upgrading to newer distribution versions (e.g. openSUSE 13.1, 13.2, Leap 42.1) I always look for old packages, especially libraries which can be purged according to section "After the upgrade" in this HOWTO: https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Offline_upgrade Anyway, some trash can't be deleted. One concrete example. Pulseaudio uses the directory /usr/lib64/pulse-8.0 for it's modules: # ls /usr/lib64/pulse-8.0/modules libalsa-util.so module-device-restore.so module-remap-sink.so libavahi-wrap.so module-echo-cancel.so module-remap-source.so [...] But the following empty directories are also there from older already removed/upgraded Pulseaudio versions: # ls -1d /usr/lib64/pulse-[0-7]*/modules /usr/lib64/pulse-0.9.21/modules /usr/lib64/pulse-0.9.22/modules /usr/lib64/pulse-1.1/modules /usr/lib64/pulse-3.0/modules /usr/lib64/pulse-4.0/modules /usr/lib64/pulse-5.0/modules /usr/lib64/pulse-7.0/modules Of course I can delete them with "rmdir". But this is not the point. My box has 286 empty directories in /usr/lib64 (184 of them not owned by an RPM package) and 477 empty directories in /usr/lib (411 of them not owned by an RPM package). If you want to scan your openSUSE system: # find /usr/lib -type d -empty | wc -l # rpm -qf $(find /usr/lib -type d -empty)|grep "not owned"|wc -l I am relatively sure, that most of the old empty directories are caused by removed/upgraded old RPM packages with missing "%dir" options for some directories. But what is a good strategy here? I can manually check and delete the empty directories. And I can write a bug report for every single RPM package with missing "%dir" options. But this would be time-consuming. I would prefer an automatic RPM check in build service for this. Is there something or something planned? Hi fellow tumbleweed users. After having upgraded to the latest snapshot, my tumbleweed virtual machine again fails to light up display. According to system journal, vboxadd service failed with error “/var/lib/VBoxGuestAditions/config not found”, and it does not help to reinstall guest addon packages. Does anyone have a remedy? Kind regards, Howard

Hi, AirPrint is an Apple technology that allows iOS and OS X devices to print wirelessly, and without setting up printer drivers. It is based on a combination of the mDNS and IPP protocols, for printer discovery and for submitting print jobs over a network, respectively. On openSUSE, implementations of those protocols are provided by Avahi and CUPS, respectively. Turning an openSUSE system into an AirPrint server can be achieved by configuring the Avahi and CUPS services appropriately. The cups -airprint package is a collection of tools, configuration files, and instructions aiming to make the setup process as easy as possible. The result will most likely not be a perfect AirPrint implementation. There are caveats, and the exact functionality supported depends on the printer driver. Nevertheless, it will probably be more than adequate for the everyday printing needs of geekos with iPhones. Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers, Week 11 has been a busy one behind the curtain – not a single snapshot hit the mirrors due to the detected issues with the 32bit kernel (for reference, see [0]). Last night, OBS produced the first i586 ISO that I was able to boot again – And Snapshot 20160317 has been given the openQA attention it deserves. openQA gave the snapshot a ‘GO’! Of course, the week did not just go by waiting for the fix for 32bit systems, but a lot, and I mean, a lot was merged into this snapshot. The most interesting bits and pieces are: * Linux Kernel 4.5 – incl. a patch to also boot on i586 when built with binutils 2.26 * TeXLive 2015 * KDE Framework 5.20.0 * Mozilla Firefox 45.0 * CMake 3.5.0 * llvm 3.8.0 * Python 3.5.1 * postgresql 9.4.6. The update comes with a warning: IMPORTANT Users of version 9.4 will need to reindex any jsonb_path_ops indexes they have created, in order to fix a persistent issue with missing index entries. * VirtualBox 5.0.16 An impressive list, but it has been 10 days since the last release was published, so a larger update was expected. Things on the radar to come: * GNOME 3.20. The 2nd release candidate (3.19.92) has been submitted to openQA. It is not expected to show new errors. The upstream release of GNOME 3.20 is planned for next week (March 23 2016). My fonts do not look very good in Tumbleweed. For instance the letter "i" looks like letter "l" in Helvetica. My setup: * Tumbleweed 20160307 * KDE Plasma desktop * font related settings in my $HOME cleared (files removed) * a copy of all Windows 8.1 fonts in /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ * NVidia GTX 750 * Eizo EV2336W monitor The files in /etc/fonts are unmodified with some exceptions: Extra file /etc/fonts/conf.d/00kde.conf with the content: <?xml version="1.0"?><!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "fonts.dtd"> <fontconfig> <dir>/usr/local/share/fonts</dir> </fontconfig> (I installed two extra fonts in /usr/local/share/fonts with the KDE font installer.) I also tried to activate two configurations from the Arch Linux documentation: In /etc/fonts/conf.d: ln -sv /usr/share/fontconfig/conf.avail/11-lcdfilter-default.conf . ln -sv /usr/share/fontconfig/conf.avail/10-sub-pixel-rgb.conf . Both setttings did not solved my font problems. Is there a good guide for openSUSE's fontconfig settings? I tried to follow the documentation for Arch Linux: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/font_configuration I'd like to use system-wide settings, but KDE tips are welcome too. Hi, is anybody using or does anybody know someone using Dropbear - a relatively small SSH server/client? Dropbear was originally added to have an SSH client without libpam dependencies to allow it being part of initrd - mainly for network boot on s390. But among others the introduction of IUCV made the use case obsolete. Since openSUSE is not really targeted at really small systems I am wondering if the package still has a purpose for openSUSE? Hi, I used to have ifcfg-wlan0 configuration that turned up my WiFi interface and called wpa_supplicant on that interface with configuration file I had prepared. It was long time ago. Now I lost it and I have no idea how to recreate it. Tried various options, but I always get wpa_supplicant running like this: /usr/sbin/wpa_supplicant -c /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf -u -f /var/log/wpa_supplicant.log and not connecting to any WiFi defined in configuration file. Does anybody know what to write to ifcfg-wlan0 to run wpa_supplicant normally: /usr/sbin/wpa_supplicant -c /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf -i wlan0 -f /var/log/wpa_supplicant.log I'm not even sure whether it is even still possible as it might be that this setup of mine was last working before Wicked came. Anybody using the same setup or have an idea how to get it working with wicked? These packages are apparently abandoned upstream, having no upstream activity in at least a year. With the release of upcoming switch to python 3.5, these will likely stop working entirely. I would like to remove them from the repo one week from today (next Monday). So if you need these packages, please either copy them to your home repo or patch them to get them working properly. [I'm actually using Leap, but I guess the situation isn't much different for Factory – please correct me if I'm wrong] I've just tried to compile HarfBuzz as a 32bit library on my 64bit box for testing purposes. By default, this library uses .pc files (for pkg-config) to find libraries. One of them is zlib. However, openSuSE's 32bit package of zlib doesn't come with a proper 32bit `zlib.pc' file (to be installed into `/usr/lib/pkgconfig'); and it seems that basically all other 32bit library packages don't provide .pc files either... Hi all, as a provocative* counter to the thread that we have too few packages in Tumbleweed, I would like to raise (again) awareness that I would also appreciate if people would take care of the stuff that actually IS in Tumbleweed. Getting a package IN there is not as difficult as some seem to believe, but I would like to stress that this is no hit'n'run game. Currently, TW keeps on having a rough 50 packages in failing state (some change here and there, some stay forever). Emails are sent after 7 days of failure - so I will keep this mail here 'short' to stuff failing for > 10 days (having given people a chance to read the mails). Packages with pending submissions to Factory are also excluded.
