Hi, I'm a bit concerned about the status of Leap 42.1. Every now and then I come across some missing package. Just now it was freeradius-server. Why is it not in Leap? I always understood that we'll have (almost) everything in Leap which is in SLE12 because that makes sense and given that freeradius-server is in Factory and SLE12 it's not like this is just some special SLE thing. Is there a current comparison list of packages which are in SLE12 but not in Leap? HI! Since quite a while I'm maintaining my own version of OpenLDAP packages: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:stroeder:branches:network:ldap… The differences are documented in the .changes files. I've already tried to submit them upstream but the request got rejected [1] since I've removed all the OpenLDAP 2.3 cruft still sitting in the upstream package. I can somewhat understand the argument but I'd strongly recommend to build the compat package in a separate package since it has competely different source files. I'd be willing to actively maintain the OpenLDAP packages but not the ancient 2.3 stuff. What do people think about it? Ciao, Michael. [1] https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/289807

Hi List, Leap 42.1 Milestone 2 looks fine. I've installed it in tripple boot with openSUSE 13.2 and Tumbleweed. However, Remmina the remote desktop gui frontend is missing among the applications I use often on 13.2. It should be available in the OSS repo as it is on 13.2 Thanks, Terje J. I heard about the development model for the next openSUSE release Leap 42.1. What are the proposed guidelines for security relevant packages? (I mean base security libraries like OpenSSL and security sensitive application packages like Apache or Sendmail.) Personally I prefer up-to-dateness over maturity for such packages. I would like to explain my rating with an example: Ever since the Poodle attack it's clear, that SSL 3 should be disabled. On http://disablessl3.com/ I found instructions to disable SSL 3 on Sendmail. Unfortunately the Sendmail packages of distributions like Ubuntu 14.04 are not recent enough and the proposed SSL settings are missing. So administrators have two bad alternatives: staying with mature, but more or less insecure software or switching to fresh secure, unsupported and sometimes unstable packages. The example is about Ubuntu 14.04. But will openSuSE go in the same direction? Hi all, Got your attention? :) This is hopefully the last email I'll send on this topic openSUSE Leap 42.1 is now in Beta 1, and from an engineering perspective things are going quite well (ie. It works!) But the distribution is 'missing' quite a few packages compared to openSUSE 13.2 (-1130) and Tumbleweed (-1480) The reason for this is simple - no one has submitted those packages and/or maintainers have not accepted the outstanding reviews for those packages While having a tidier distribution isn't a bad thing, it's a bit of a concern that so many packages might be either unwanted, or unloved by their maintainers = What can I do about it? = Well, obviously, I'd hope you've been downloading the openSUSE Leap 42.1 beta and testing it, and finding that the stuff you want is missing that way. But assuming that you haven't... Review the following two package list diffs http://paste.opensuse.org/77513865 ;- packages that are in Tumbleweed but not in Leap http://paste.opensuse.org/28259518 ;- packages that are in 13.2 but not in Leap If there are packages you desire, then double check they're not already on the way to Leap - https://build.opensuse.org/project/requests/openSUSE:Leap:42.1 If not, then submit them! To submit a package from Tumbleweed to Leap run osc submitrequest -m 'Submitting $package for Leap' openSUSE:Factory/$package openSUSE:Leap:42.1 If it makes sense to use the SLE-12 version instead (shouldn't be many of these left, but just in case), then submit a package from SLE-12-SP1 to Leap: osc submitrequest -m 'Submitting $package for Leap' SLE-12 -SP1:GA/$package openSUSE:Leap:42.1 If you're not the maintainer of the package, don't worry, the maintainer will be involved in the review process to ensure they're happy with their package ending up in Leap. But we need YOU to tell us it should be in our new Distribution. Hello, kdevelop4 is not available in leap. According to [1] - if this is the correct place - following requirements are missing: nothing provides fdupes, nothing provides kdebase4-workspace-devel, nothing provides libkdevplatform-devel >= 1.7.1, nothing provides libqjson-devel, nothing provides okteta-devel, nothing provides valgrind-devel, nothing provides xz, nothing provides rpm-build but actually all of these packages *except* for libkdevplatform-devel are available in the repo. Or does this indicate that these packages are missing at build time? [opensuse-factory] 4 32-bit build fails in Leap:42.1 project

For the 32-bit proponents with package maintenance skills there are 4 packages currently failing for 32-bit builds, but not 64-bit builds. https://build.opensuse.org/project/monitor/openSUSE:Leap:42.1?arch_i586=1&d… apache2-mod_perl giflib ksh perl-Devel-Cover I didn't check if they are actually succeeding for 64-bit builds, but they aren't in the 64-bit failure list. Assuming they are 32-bit only failures the main maintainer may make fixing it a low priority. (I typically ignore ARM build failures as an example. The ARM enthusiasts come along in the background and submit fixes for them.) The 32-bit volunteers need to figure out if they can branch, patch, and submit fixes to the above. [opensuse-factory] clang non-native targets support?

What is the reason clang is restricted to support only native targets on each platform? Hello all, When entering bug: https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=947683 we can only enter it under openSUSE Factory. However, it is missing from openSUSE Distribution component list. Usability is just as important, especially when reporting Leap 42.1 Beta 1. Any thoughts?
