[opensuse-factory] Application:Geo status

Hi all, Since there is no Geo specific mailing list, I decided to bring some issues to the factory list: 1. GRASS 7 has been released some time now. We are still maintaining 2 versions in Geo repository: grass (6.4.x) and grass7 (7.x). I think we need to merge grass7 into grass package. The question is: should we create a grass6 package for 6.x users? I am sure those users exist out there... 2. PostGIS 2 is out for quite a long time. We have postgis and postgis2 packages in our repository. postgis is disabled and all binaries are wiped out for some time now (since we removed RedHat based repositories). Question: should we merge postgis2 to postgis? and drop postgis2 package? 3. openSUSE 42 has been added to the Geo project. There are some dependencies missing, but things look good in general. Should we add the needed packages in Geo repository or submit the needed packages to 42? 4. QGIS 2 is out for at least 2 years. There is no point to keep qgis and qgis2 packages anymore. Otto has proposed to have qgis package (latest stable release - 2.10.1), qgis-master (nightly build from git, as we already have) and qgis-ltr (Long Time Supported Release - 2.8.3). I agree to drop QGIS 1.x package. 5. Several Geo packages are now in Factory so we should be very careful with what is enabled to build in Geo repository. Those packages should be used from the upstream openSUSE release (eg. geos, hdf5, proj). I made some adjustments to fix this issue. 6. GDAL made it to Factory but was never released as part of a stable openSUSE release (it would be released in 13.3, so we need to submit it to 42). Also GDAL 2.0 was released some days ago. I am sure that most downstream projects are not ready for the switch. Should we create a gdal2 package or just wait a few months? [opensuse-factory] Tumbleweed - Review of the Week 2015/39

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers, This is the 2nd week where we were not able to publish a snapshot. We're having bad luck. After we got kiwi in last week to actually produce images again, we resulted in having a huge amount of tests broken in openQA. Sadly, in a way that did not even make sense: - The user session comes up (GNOME or KDE), with autologin - openQA switches to tty1/tty4 to perform basic setup tasks - at once, plymouth kicked back in, killing the whole setup To the biggest surprise, we could not find anything that would even remotely impact that.. and it was literally chasing a ghost (as running the test there was also a remote chance that it even passed once in a while) So, this week was lost with chasing this issue, and we *think* to have found an issue in systemd and the way it restarts services; a patch was added, staged (with multiple test runs showing success) and checked in this morning... the next 24 hours will show if this actually worked. IF it worked, what can you expect from the next snapshot? ========================================================= There are a bunch of goodies in there, that people are even waiting for: * LLVM 3.7 * Mesa 11.0 (yes, it's in!) * NCurses 6: this one caused a bit of a headache (but not the ones we see now). It seems not to be fully ABI compatible to the 6-ABI that was provided by ncurses 5.9; we'd seen various crashes as a result. Those did not show in staging, as there we do full rebuilds. All packages in Tumbleweed relying on ncurses have, as a result, been rebuilt. Other packages might be suffering from that. Those are likely the biggest checkins we had for this week And the outlook on the current stagings: ======================================== * KDE Applications 15.08.0: we finally managed to get closer by eliminating a couple package conflicts. Together with the KDE Team, we keep on pushing for this one * systemd 224: a never ending story: multiple fixes happened this week, and we keep on hoping for the best. At this moment, I don't have any pending errors to check for. The next openQA run of Staging:F should give some insight though. * Kernel 4.2 * Firefox 41 * LibreOffice 5.0.2 * libQt 5.5 (looking much better, we got the missing bits submitted!) * GNOME 3.18.0 So, a lot has queued up now, and as soon as we get back to normal operations of regular snapshots that actually pass openQA, you should see a steadier stream again. [opensuse-factory][leap] unhappy with wicked and fixed IP

I don't want my ethernet "managed". I want life like it was with ifup, config dictates onboot, and onboot it starts, regardless whether a cable connection actually exists, so that when a connection exists, there's no need for any response from a manager, or anything else. Last night I "installed" Leap for first time ever, same method as nearly always, HTTP started via Grub stanza including network configuration on HD0. Installation went without any significant hitches, and so did first several boots. Then I got a whole bunch of boots without eth0 configured, couldn't get systemctl or anything else to find me any understandable clues, and eventually found and looked at and was very disappointed by https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Wicked/Troubleshooting . Man pages for wicked and wicked-config are too big, complicated and free of examples to figure out what to do to make eth0 config start unconditionally, and persist, or why this isn't default on an HTTP installation with one only NIC and no wireless hardware, or even if it's any more possible since Wicked arrival. Is it even possible any more to have eth0 configured on boot unconditionally? If so, how? -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." There isn't one. Is this something for which no round tuit has yet manifested, or is another expected to be used instead, e.g. SLE12 or or *13.1? want to install PostgreSQL 9.4 on Leap from: http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/42.1-Current/repo/oss/ but postgresql-init 9.4 package is missing. Could this be added? don't want to use to much different repo's (could lead to breaks and other nasty stuff) i could use TW repo, but not sure if this is a good choice...
