==== libapr1 ====
Subpackages: libapr1-devel
- No longer use --enable-allocator-uses-mmap but the default
which is using malloc, this feature exists to reduce
fragmentation but this is currently at the expense of:
* Loosing all malloc sanity checks.
* mmap and munmap are expensive operations when using
at lot of threads (like in apache worker,event)
* It will waste memory, even more on archs that have big
page sizes.
- If there are fragmentation or performance problems in glibc
malloc, the library has to be fixed instead.
- apr-use-getrandom.patch: Update, if getrandom blocks, fallback
to the old codepath, restoring old always non-blocking behaviour
in practice it blocks only at boottime when the entropy pool
has not been fully initialized, this delays the startup
of apache for example.
* Use SYS_getrandom constant instead of the "internal"
__NR_getrandom

==== bash ====
Version update (4.2 -> 4.3)
Subpackages: bash-doc libreadline6 readline-devel readline-doc
- Do not restart all signal handlers for bash 4.3 as this breaks
trap handler in subshells waotiug for a process
- Remove -DMUST_UNBLOCK_CHLD(=1) as this breaks waitchild(2) on linux
- Add upstream patch bash43-031
The new nameref assignment functionality introduced in bash-4.3 did not perform
enough validation on the variable value and would create variables with
invalid names.
- Add upstream patch bash43-032
When bash is running in Posix mode, it allows signals -- including SIGCHLD --
to interrupt the `wait' builtin, as Posix requires. However, the interrupt
causes bash to not run a SIGCHLD trap for all exited children. This patch
fixes the issue and restores the documented behavior in Posix mode.
- Add upstream patch bash43-033
Bash does not clean up the terminal state in all cases where bash or
readline modifies it and bash is subsequently terminated by a fatal signal.
This happens when the `read' builtin modifies the terminal settings, both
when readline is active and when it is not. It occurs most often when a script
installs a trap that exits on a signal without re-sending the signal to itself.
- Fix the sed command that fixes up the patch headers. It was
printing a duplicate header line, which suprisingly did not
confuse patch, but could in the future.
- Fix all patches that had the duplicate header line issue.
- Use tail command to follow run-tests instead of a simpe cat command
- Really remove obsolete patches
- Skip autoconf on OS 10.2 or older
- Avoid fdupes on SLES-10
- Bump bash version to 4.3
- Allow building on targets from SL 10.1 to current since it's free

==== gdb ====
Version update (7.8.1 -> 7.9)
- Build multi-target also on aarch64
- Strip date and runtimes from gdb-testsuite contents.
- Use patchlist.pl to merge with gdb-7.9-10.fc22, a rebase to FSF GDB 7.9.
The GDB 7.8 features are:
* Python Scripting
- You can now access frame registers from Python scripts.
- New attribute 'producer' for gdb.Symtab objects.
* New Python-based convenience functions:
- $_caller_is(name [, number_of_frames])
- $_caller_matches(regexp [, number_of_frames])
- $_any_caller_is(name [, number_of_frames])
- $_any_caller_matches(regexp [, number_of_frames])
* New commands
- queue-signal signal-name-or-number
Queue a signal to be delivered to the thread when it is resumed.
* On resume, GDB now always passes the signal the program had stopped
for to the thread the signal was sent to, even if the user changed
threads before resuming. Previously GDB would often (but not
always) deliver the signal to the thread that happens to be current
at resume time.
* Conversely, the "signal" command now consistently delivers the
requested signal to the current thread. GDB now asks for
confirmation if the program had stopped for a signal and the user
switched threads meanwhile.
* "breakpoint always-inserted" modes "off" and "auto" merged.
Now, when 'breakpoint always-inserted mode' is set to "off", GDB
won't remove breakpoints from the target until all threads stop,
even in non-stop mode. The "auto" mode has been removed, and "off"
is now the default mode.
* MI changes
- The -list-thread-groups command outputs an exit-code field for
inferiors that have exited.
- removed (upstream) gdb-async-stopped-on-pid-arg-1of2.patch,
gdb-async-stopped-on-pid-arg-testsuite.patch,
gdb-python-completer-1of2.patch, gdb-python-completer-2of2.patch
and gdb-readline-6.3.5.patch
- added gdb-jit-reader-multilib.patch, gdb-no-dg-extract-results-py.patch,
gdb-python-gil.patch, gdb-python3-py_hash_t-32bit.patch,
gdb-python3-testsuite.patch and gdb-vla-intel-logical-not.patch
==== gdm ====
Subpackages: gdmflexiserver libgdm1 typelib-1_0-Gdm-1_0

support for DISPLAYMANAGER_STARTS_XSERVER from
/etc/sysconfig/displaymanager.
- Add gdm-correct-ShowLocalGreeter-standalone-XDMCP-server.patch:
ensure ShowLocalGreeter configuration key is properly handled
(bgo#743440).
==== git ====
Version update (2.3.0 -> 2.3.1)
Subpackages: git-core git-cvs git-daemon git-email git-gui git-svn git-web gitk
- git 2.3.1:
* The interactive "show a list and let the user choose from it"
interface "add -i" used showed and prompted to the user even when
the candidate list was empty, against which the only "choice" the
user could have made was to choose nothing.
* "git apply --whitespace=fix" used to under-allocate the memory
when the fix resulted in a longer text than the original patch.
* "git log --help" used to show rev-list options that are irrelevant
to the "log" command.
* The error message from "git commit", when a non-existing author
name was given as value to the "--author=" parameter, has been
reworded to avoid misunderstanding.
* A broken pack .idx file in the receiving repository prevented the
dumb http transport from fetching a good copy of it from the other
side.
* The documentation incorrectly said that C(opy) and R(ename) are the
only ones that can be followed by the score number in the output in
the --raw format.
* Fix a misspelled conditional that is always true.
* Code to read branch name from various files in .git/ directory
would have misbehaved if the code to write them left an empty file.
* The "git push" documentation made the "--repo=<there>" option
easily misunderstood.
* After attempting and failing a password-less authentication
(e.g. kerberos), libcURL refuses to fall back to password based
Basic authentication without a bit of help/encouragement.
* Setting diff.submodule to 'log' made "git format-patch" produce
broken patches.
* "git rerere" (invoked internally from many mergy operations) did
not correctly signal errors when told to update the working tree
files and failed to do so for whatever reason.
* "git blame HEAD -- missing" failed to correctly say "HEAD" when it
tried to say "No such path 'missing' in HEAD".

Version update (4.84 -> 4.88)
- Update to version 4.88
* Reduced to 50 the number of open file descriptors lsof attempts
to close while trying to protect itself from a file descriptor
exec() attack. This limits the overhead lsof incurs on systems
that have large file descriptor limits, yet provides sufficient
open descriptors for the library functions lsof calls.

FreeBSD 8.4.
* lsof for Solaris 10 or 11 is no longer supported.
* Initialized local variables in the Linux process_id() function.
* Added support for FreeBSD 11.

when needed.
* Added tmpfs file system support for FreeBSD.
* Since a test system is no longer available, dropped the claim of
FreeBSD 4.9 support.
* Added the +|-E options for Linux. -E displays endpoint info; +E
displays endpoint info and endpopint files.
* Fixed a Linux bug handling processes whose command includes a
non-printing character, particularly a NEWLINE character, and
clarified printing of single '\\' characters in command and file names.
* Added support for Linux RDMA and CRYPTO protocal names and UNIX
socket type
* Fixed field output to insure that the field descriptor field is
always selected, since it identifies the file set.

* Use NULLIFY_INS () to nullify instructions and use MONO_INST_NEW to create phi node instructions to avoid asserts in the spill pass. Fixes bxc#24006.
* Rewrite the way direct calls are made between llvm methods. Previously all calls were made to plt entries and the plt entry symbols were aliased to point to the corresponding method if the method was directly callable using the .set assembler directive. This doesn?t seem to work with newer LLVM/CLANG versions, so do this completely on the LLVM side using Value::replaceAllUsesWith (). Fixes bxc#23976.

==== patch ====
Version update (2.7.1 -> 2.7.4)
- patch 2.7.4
Fixes a functional regression introduced by the previous security
fix. The security fix would forbid legitimate use cases of
relative symbolic links.
[boo#918058]
+ Allow arbitrary symlink targets again.
+ Do not change permissions if there isn't an explicit mode
change.
+ Fix indentation heuristic for context diffs.
- Please also note that the previous update fixed security bugs
boo#915328 and boo#915329 even though it did not say so.
- patch 2.7.3
Contains a security fix for a directory traversal flaw when
handling git-style patches. This could allow an attacker to
overwrite arbitrary files by applying a specially crafted patch.
[boo#913678] [CVE-2015-1196]
+ With git-style patches, symlinks that point outside the working
directory will no longer be created (CVE-2015-1196).
+ When a file isn't being deleted because the file contents don't
match the patch, the resulting message is now "Not deleting
file ... as content differs from patch" instead of "File ...
is not empty after patch; not deleting".
+ Function names in hunks (from diff -p) are now preserved in
reject files
This change was previously added as a patch. [boo#904519]
- Version 2.7.2 differed from the above only slightly.
- packaging changes:
+ Verify source signatures

I've just noticed that the default limits are a bit too tight on my
4-core machine and choke off parallel builds of Emacs becuase it runs
into the nproc (actually its nthreads) limit. These limits are identical
to the ones set on my AthlonXP box even though that system is a lot less
capable. I can change them with prlimit (as root) and edit
/etc/security/limits.conf, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do this
from YaST?
Regards,
Achim.

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,
The good news first:
XFCE 4.12 has been submitted and made a very fast appearance into the
repositories (it was not even announced last week). Great job done by
the maintainers!
The not so good news:
Unlike promised in last weeks update, systemd 219 did not make it into
any of the snapshots of this week. The reason is that the rescue systems
(as chosen on the DVD) simply is not usable. The anticipated fix I
talked about last week did not make things better (if anything, it made
it worse). So, systemd was reverted to version 210 and moved back into
Staging areas (where we added the explicit test that failed in
post-integration tests). I'm sure the maintainers would be willing to
hear of additional resources helping out to get this to work.
Outlook for the future:
Samba 4.2 is in the staging areas. Amongst others, it will bring snapper
support; so a windows user can roll back to his shadow copy directly,
reducing the workload of admins to get backups out.
Where can you help:
There is always more eyes and hands needed. Have a look for example at
the stuff currently failing in openSUSE:Factory [0] and submit fixes.
Cheers,
and happy weekend,
Dominique

keys via the management interface
* New feature: --x509-track option, more fine grained access to X.509 fields
in scripts and plug-ins

for more advanced routing and firewalling
* New feature: --management-query-proxy - manage proxy settings via the management
interface (supercedes --http-proxy-fallback)
* New feature: --stale-routes-check, which cleans up the internal routing table
* New feature: --x509-username-field, where other X.509v3 fields can be used for
the authentication instead of Common Name
* Improved client-kill management interface command
* Improved UTF-8 support - and added --compat-names to provide backwards compatibility
with older scripts/plug-ins
* Improved auth-pam with COMMONNAME support, passing the certificate's common
name in the PAM conversation
* More options can now be used inside <connection> blocks
* Completely new build system, enabling easier cross-compilation and Windows builds
* Much of the code has been better documented
* Many documentation updates
* Plenty of bug fixes and other code clean-ups
- Add systemd native support for OpenSUSE > 12.1
- Adapt patchs to upstream release:
* openvpn-2.1-plugin-man.dif > openvpn-2.3-plugin-man.dif
* openvpn-2.1.0-man-dot.diff > openvpn-2.3.0-man-dot.diff
- Remove obsolete patchs; fixed or merged on upstream release:
* 0001-Use-SSL_MODE_RELEASE_BUFFERS-if-available.patch
* openvpn-2.1-plugin-build.dif
* openvpn-2.1-systemd-passwd.patch
- Rebase specfile to upstream changes:
* easy-rsa is not provided anymore with main package
* remove %clean section
* autoreconf -fi is no needed
- Update openvpn.keyring file for upstream release asc key
- Join openvpn.service systemd cgroup in start when needed, e.g.
when starting with further parameters. (bnc#781106)
- Verify GPG signature.
- fix ciaran's previous license entry. the license has a SUSE prefix
- Fixed openvpn init script to not map reopen to reload so the
reopen code is without any effect (bnc#781106).
- Added requested OPENVPN_AUTOSTART variable allowing to provide
an optional list of config names started by default (bnc#692440).
- license update: GPL-2.0-with-openssl-exception and LGPL-2.1
openssl has an openssl exception (also, it is GPL-2.0 only)
- Fixed SLES build readding Group tags to sub-packages in spec,
not require libselinux-devel on SLE-10 and datadir/doc cleanup.
- Updated to openvpn-2.2.2:
- Warn once, that IPv6 in tun mode is not supported in OpenVPN 2.2
- Pkcs11 support built into the Windows version
- Fixed a bug in the Windows TAP-driver
- Fix source URLs.
- add automake as buildrequire to avoid implicit dependency
- Marked /var/run/openvpn as ghost (bnc#710270), man page and
other rpmlint warning fixes
- BuildRequires libselinux-devel
- Use SSL_MODE_RELEASE_BUFFERS to keep memory usage low, sent
upstream as https://community.openvpn.net/openvpn/ticket/157
- Add openvpn-2.1-systemd-passwd.patch / modify openvpn.init to
support systemd password query (bnc#675406)
- Updated to openvpn-2.2.1, a new version series providing several
new features. This version fixes build issues and provides
updated easy-rsa for OpenSSL 1.0.0 (fixes Trac ticket #125),
- Adopted spec file, enabled saving password in a file and to
specify an alternative username in x509 cert.
- Removed X-Interactive from init script again, as systemd isn't
able to use it correctly [any more?] (bnc#675406). We will
address it later and probably use /bin/systemd-ask-password.
- KVPNC is unable to parse openvpn version [bnc#679153]
- Added X-Interactive: true LSB tag to the init script.
- Updated to openvpn 2.1.4, providing several bug fixes and
improvements, such as:
* Fix of a problem with special case route targets
* Try to ensure, that the tun/tap interface gets closed on
non-graceful aborts.
* Several AUTH_FAILED reporting fixes causing the connection
to fail without any error indication.
* Enable exponential backoff in reliability layer retransmits.
* Proxy improvements
Please review the ChangeLog file for a complete and exact list.
- Do not include build date in binaries
- Improved netconfig based client up and down sample scripts.
- Added netconfig based client up and down scripts to samples.
- Updated to openvpn 2.1.1; linux related changes since 2.1_rc20:
* Fixed a couple issues in sample plugins auth-pam.c and
down-root.c.
(1) Fail gracefully rather than segfault if calloc returns NULL.
(2) The openvpn_plugin_abort_v1 function can potentially be
called with handle == NULL. Add code to detect this case,
and if so, avoid dereferencing pointers derived from handle
(Thanks to David Sommerseth for finding this bug).
* Documented "multihome" option in the man page.
* Added a hard failure when peer provides a certificate chain
with depth > 16. Previously, a warning was issued.
* Added additional session renegotiation hardening. OpenVPN has
always required that mid-session renegotiations build up a new
SSL/TLS session from scratch. While the client certificate
common name is already locked against changes in mid-session
TLS renegotiations, we now extend this locking to the
auth-user-pass username as well as all certificate content in
the full client certificate chain.
- Improved openvpn init script adding messages giving a hint about
pid write failure and to look into the log messages (bnc#559041).
- Added -fno-strict-aliasing to compile flags in the spec file.
- Updated to openvpn 2.1 2.1_rc20, fixing problems in route and
option handling provided by the from server (bnc#552440).
For complete list of changes, see ChangeLog file, here just
the IMO most important:
* Fixed a bug introduced in 2.1_rc17 (svn r4436) where using
the redirect-gateway option by itself, without any extra
parameters, would cause the option to be ignored.
* Optimized PUSH_REQUEST handshake sequence to shave several
seconds off of a typical client connection initiation.
* The maximum number of "route" directives (specified in the
config file or pulled from a server) can now be configured
via the new "max-routes" directive.
* Eliminated the limitation on the number of options that can
be pushed to clients, including routes. Previously, all
pushed options needed to fit within a 1024 byte options
string.
* Added --server-poll-timeout option : when polling possible
remote servers to connect to in a round-robin fashion,
spend no more than n seconds waiting for a response before
trying the next server.
* Added the ability for the server to provide a custom reason
string when an AUTH_FAILED message is returned to the client.
This string can be set by the server-side managment interface
and read by the client-side management interface.
* client-kill management interface command, when issued on server,
will now send a RESTART message to client. This feature is
intended to make UDP clients respond the same as TCP clients
in the case where the server issues a RESTART message in order
to force the client to reconnect and pull a new options/route
list.
- Added network-remotefs to init script dependencies (bnc#522279).
- Updated to openvpn 2.1 [2.1_rc18] series (fate#305289).
- Enabled pkcs11-helper for openSUSE > 10.3 (bnc#487558).
- Adopted spec file and patches, improved init script.
- Disabled installation of easy-rsa for Windows.

[opensuse-factory] a broken system (snapshot 20150309 update?)
by Constant Brouerius van Nidek 12 Mar '15

After zypper dup of the yesterdays snapshot my tumbleweed system is totally
down.
Do not know what finally caused the messed up system because apart from the
update, a bad internet connection and a blackout, (too long for my UPS -
which does not handle a soft landing any more) my system only gives three
blinking green squares and stops with a dark screen with a blinking cursor.
Two questions. How could I get into the system and second if that is not
successful how could I reinstall my system into the yesterdays state?
