[opensuse-factory] Tumbleweed - review of the week
Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,
The good news first:
XFCE 4.12 has been submitted and made a very fast appearance into the
repositories (it was not even announced last week). Great job done by
the maintainers!
The not so good news:
Unlike promised in last weeks update, systemd 219 did not make it into
any of the snapshots of this week. The reason is that the rescue systems
(as chosen on the DVD) simply is not usable. The anticipated fix I
talked about last week did not make things better (if anything, it made
it worse). So, systemd was reverted to version 210 and moved back into
Staging areas (where we added the explicit test that failed in
post-integration tests). I'm sure the maintainers would be willing to
hear of additional resources helping out to get this to work.
Outlook for the future:
Samba 4.2 is in the staging areas. Amongst others, it will bring snapper
support; so a windows user can roll back to his shadow copy directly,
reducing the workload of admins to get backups out.
Where can you help:
There is always more eyes and hands needed. Have a look for example at
the stuff currently failing in openSUSE:Factory [0] and submit fixes.
Cheers,
and happy weekend,
Dominique
