[opensuse-factory] About efibootmgr on obs ( For Factory / openSUSE 13.2 )
by Bruno Friedmann 16 Sep '14
by Bruno Friedmann 16 Sep '14
16 Sep '14
For information, this is the mail that I've forwarded to efibootmgr maintainer.
I suspect we have a "big" trouble in the way EFI is handled on factory actually.
For the last two weeks, I'm trying to get my new apple macbook pro 11.4 to load openSUSE Factory and face one issue.
If the install goes smoothly, once it reboot the nvram is totally destroyed whenever there's or not a partition vfat for EFI.
The firmware load by telling there's no more bootable harddrive, you have to boot an efi usb key, and remake apple osx okay for reboot.
I've dig the internet to find a why this happen all the time ( installation of 13.1 works on it )
then I found two things which seems important for openSUSE:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1114775
on this bug I've seen that fedora version was 0.7.x version when our stick very old.
then I discover on koji.fedoraproject.org that the efibootmgr has a new development home
located at https://github.com/vathpela/efibootmgr
and there's just a new release
https://github.com/vathpela/efibootmgr/releases/tag/efibootmgr-0.8.0
which seems to contain bugfixes for the issue I'm having.
- Re-encorporate workaround for Apple machines
What did you think about it ?
Would you like to update the package we have on obs ?
If you update it I will be able quite easily able to try it and see if it fixe the trouble.
Without that, all people having a apple notebook will face the same trouble, and if they will be able to install fedora 22
openSUSE 13.2 will be not usable ....
Can we try to get this fixed ?
Thanks for your attention.

I installed the 20140909 snapshot on my non-EFI system with a GPT disk. I kept
my existing 13.1 root partition, and installed 13.2 on a spare partition. The
installation was done from the Live KDE iso that had been placed on a USB drive
with imagewriter.
Installation appeared to progress normally until the system was rebooted. The
BIOS reported that there were two active partitions. After rebooting the live
system and loading gparted, it was clear that the installer had set the
legacy-boot flag correctly for the new installation; however, it had not cleared
that flag for the 13.1 partition. Recovery was easy once I understood what had
gone wrong.
This problem may not affect very many systems, as most GPT disks will use EFI;
however, I had to turn it off in the past, as something got corrupted with
GRUB2, and the system would only boot Windows 8.1. :( I have not yet taken the
time to do a proper fix for that issue.
The Bugzilla is https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=896369.

[opensuse-factory] New Package - libhal1-flash (re-enabling Flash-Player DRM content on Linux)
by Christopher Horler 13 Sep '14
by Christopher Horler 13 Sep '14
13 Sep '14
Good afternoon!
I've written and packaged a compatibility library for flash to enable
playback of DRM content (this removes the dependency on the HAL
package). I'd like to know what steps I can take to have the package
considered for inclusion in openSUSE 12.3 and 13.1. Can I submit the
package to devel:openSUSE:Factory, or is there another action I should
be taking?
Details of the bug and links to upstream are here (please briefly review):
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=768562#c19
OBS location:
https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=hal-flash&project=home%3Ach…
I will maintain the package until such time that HTML5 Video content
is a viable alternative or the Flash plugin is completely withdrawn.
RPMs, debs... are all available on the build service.
Three noteworthy points:
- package naming (libhal1-flash) doesn't 100% align with the Shared
Library Policy (I've suffixed -flash to make clear this is not a fully
functional HAL layer and also to avoid naming conflicts as some
distros seem to have a shared library package already named libhal1).
- The packages depends on dbus and udisks. It seems to work find when
udisks is launched on demand (as for openSUSE 12.3)
- The flash-player package could have some kind of RPM dependency on
this package to assist the user when looking in YaST (Install / Remove
Software) / Package Manager.

I have a slow internet connection and like to use torrents to download
large files. Is it possible to provide torrents for Factory ISOs?

- update to 3.17
* required for Firefox 33
New functionality:
* When using ECDHE, the TLS server code may be configured to generate
a fresh ephemeral ECDH key for each handshake, by setting the
SSL_REUSE_SERVER_ECDHE_KEY socket option to PR_FALSE. The
SSL_REUSE_SERVER_ECDHE_KEY option defaults to PR_TRUE, which means
the server's ephemeral ECDH key is reused for multiple handshakes.
This option does not affect the TLS client code, which always
generates a fresh ephemeral ECDH key for each handshake.
New Macros
* SSL_REUSE_SERVER_ECDHE_KEY
Notable Changes:
* The manual pages for the certutil and pp tools have been updated to
document the new parameters that had been added in NSS 3.16.2.
* On Windows, the new build variable USE_STATIC_RTL can be used to
specify the static C runtime library should be used. By default the
dynamic C runtime library is used.

Hi,
I'm trying to get AirPlay working with Pulse, I do see paprefs provides
"Make discoverable Apple AirTunes sound devices available locally" and my
AirPlay devices shows up at some point under available devices, but none
of them "stick" and no audio is played back.
Any success stories? Do we have the raop/2 module embedded in pulseaudio?
TIA

[opensuse-factory] obs factory-auto "debian.tar.gz is not mentioned in spec files as source or patch"
by Kai-Uwe Behrmann 12 Sep '14
by Kai-Uwe Behrmann 12 Sep '14

Hello,
my project builds packages for factory and for various distros in one
go. So rpm's and debian packages are build from one project.
Here the project in question:
https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/multimedia:color_management/oyranos
and the declined request:
https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/245162
What can I do to avoid the nasty message above? Is there a easy workaround?
thanks in advance and kind regards
Kai-Uwe

Hi,
I updated http://stephan.kulow.org/opensuse_13.2/ to reflect the
release schedule as I plan with:
20140918 13.2 Beta
20141009 13.2 RC1
20141030 13.2 GM
20141104 13.2 release
Till the Beta I will take care of syncing Factory and 13.2, after that
13.2 is an indepedent project with its own staging projects. How we
track the submissions to it, I haven't yet decided.
Greetings, Stephan

==== ltrace ====
Version update (0.7.2 -> 0.7.91)
- Update to git rev 6c6bcc3
* * Prototype libraries
- Each DSO can now ship an ltrace config file (called prototype
library) that ltrace will open when that DSO is loaded to process
image. See ltrace(1) for details.
- ltrace.conf is no longer part of installation tarball. Instead,
we now ship libc.so.conf, libm.so.conf, libacl.so.conf, and
syscalls.conf. Those are now istalled to /usr/share/ltrace by
default. /etc/ltrace.conf and $HOME/.ltrace.conf are still
loaded if present, and can contain arbitrary user configuration.
- The option -F was retrofitted to be a colon-separated list of
prototype libraries, and directories to look for prototype
libraries in. On Linux, ltrace looks into XDG_CONFIG_HOME,
XDG_CONFIG_DIRS, and /usr/share/ltrace as well.
- Wide character strings are supported in prototypes. Use "string"
lens as usual, but use array of integers as underlying type.
libc.so.conf now contains prototypes of wide character functions.
- Sole void function parameter such as in the following example, is
now considered obsolete:
| int fork(void); |
This use is still accepted, taken to mean "hide(int)", but
produces a warning, and will be removed in future.
- Prototypes are now read from DWARF debug info, if available. This
complements the data available in config files
* * Architectural support
- MIPS and MIPSel are now handled by the same backend.
- ARMv6, ARMv7 and ARMv8 (AArch64) are supported, including full
fetch backend. ARMv8 backend doesn't support tracing of 32-bit
binaries, as currently there's no 32-bit userspace available for
ARM64 processors.
- Imagination Technologies Meta is now supported.
- PowerPC64 ELFv2 little-endian ABI is now supported including full
fetch backend.
- On Linux, tracing of IFUNC symbols is supported. On i386,
x86_64, ppc32 with secure PLT and ppc64, IRELATIVE PLT slots are
traced as well.
* * -w output now shows full library path
The output format is similar to glibc's backtrace_symbols, e.g.:
> /bin/ls(_init+0x19be) [0x40398e]
> /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6(__libc_start_main+0xed) [0x7f50cbc3676d]
> /bin/ls(_init+0x25fd) [0x4045cd]
- Enable for ppc64le and aarch64

- Harden build with full RELRO as this libraries end linked
to at least one setuid root executable.
==== python-matplotlib ====
Version update (1.3.1 -> 1.4.0)
Subpackages: python-matplotlib-tk
- adjust python-tz buildrequires to match runtime requires (python-pytz)
- Add new python-cairocffi dependency. This is the recommended
dependency for the cairo backend upstream.
- Split out the cairo backend into its own subpackage. It is no
longer tied to gtk, so people can use it on its own without
pulling in any gtk dependencies.
- Fixed issues with qt. The qt5 backend is actually a generic
qt backend, which the qt4 backend depends on. So it needs to be
available for the qt4 backend to work at all. However, we need
to pull in the python-qt5 package to make it work, and that
package is only available for openSUSE > 13.1. So we need to
split the generic qt stuff, including the qt5 stuff, into a
package both the qt4 and qt5 backends can depend on, and then
create a stub qt5 package that just pulls in python-qt5
- Reorganized some other backend packages based on backend changes
- Update to 1.4.0
