Hi, Request for discussion: Should we offer firewalld as alternative/complement for SuSEfirewall2? I think we should... reasoning: mobile users (laptops) who use NetworkManager / Wicked for managing their ip connectivity "in userspace" would want to be able to have multiple wifi setups that end up being in different zones. I'm going to try to package the latest firewalld from fedora for openSUSE, and test it with 13.2. [opensuse-factory] Is driver:wireless without a maintainer?

[opensuse-factory] [Tumbleweed] VTx console on 2560x1600 monitor

The console on my new Linux box is coming up fine in the native resolution of the 30" monitor (2560x1600) and tells me it is using 300x100 characters. However, the complete last line plus about half of the second-to-last are invisible. Additionally, resizecons doesn't even recognis 320x100 as a valid resolution and the -lines parameter needs to dialed back to 60 for it to work. There's not a lot of documentation of how this is supposed to work with KMS, most of it even predates thze 3.x line of kernels. Does anybody know: 1. Why are the final lines not displayed and how to correct that? 2. How to make the VTx consoles use less than the full screen resolution? In other words is there a way to make it keep a border around the actual text area? At the moment I'm going to specify a smaller resolution for the console and set the monitor to 1:1 pixelwise display to work around the issue. [opensuse-factory] NVIDIA driver package for Factory possible?

Hi. Is it possible to have the NVIDIA driver packaged for Factory? Now that it is a rolling version there seems to be a growing interest by users on it. But I read frequently that users won't install Factory because this driver isn't available (AFAIK). I myself am using Factory in a netbook with Intel graphics and I would like to use it in my desktop too but I don't want to be reinstalling the driver on every kernel update. If packaging the driver isn't an option, is there an automatized way to have the driver working after kernel upgrades? Hello, I'm running 3.16.4-1.g7a8842b-desktop x86_64 from kernel:stable and I observe this on a system without any reiserfs partitions: # ps axu | grep [r]eiser root 16287 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? S< Oct08 0:00 [reiserfs/sda9] # lsmod | grep reiser # On 8 and 9/10, the system log indicates that os-prober attempted to mount sda4 and sda9 using every possible filesystem kernel module, but sda4 is an extended partition and sda9 is an unformatted one, which probably resulted in reiserfs kernel threads remaining even after I unloaded the reiserfs kernel module. To verify this, every time I run: #mount /dev/sda4 /mnt -t reiserfs mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda4, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so. #modprobe -r reiserfs another reiserfs kernel thread is added to the aforementioned ones. [opensuse-factory] I/O Performance much lower with new 3.17 kernel?!?

Hi there, this is just a heads-up message to check if other people made similar observations. Yesterday I've updated my systems ("zypper dup") from the former Factory release (sometime in October) to version "20141029 (Harlequin)". Apart from the trouble with VMware's modules everything appears as it did before. Now that I'm actually using this system, I realized that fetching e-mails from my local mailserver (postfix + dovecot22) using the fetchmail program is awfully slow. Before, a whole bunch of messages arrived on my workstation without any significant delay; now, running the same on kernel version 3.17.1-1.2.g5c4d099 looks like one e-mail per second. I've seen similar poor performance of fetchmail with IPv6 enabled (but not actually used) before, so I disabled IPv6 both on the server as well as on the client side, but didn't get any change or even improvement. I have now installed kernel version 3.16.7-1.gdfcb69e-desktop (from Kernel:/openSUSE-13.2/standard) and performance is back to normal. I don't know if this is a networking or a file system issue, but thought I'm going to report it here to check other people's opinions and/or experience. Here are some details about my system (server and client are identically configured): CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz RAM: 32 GiB Swap: 1 GiB (completely unused, just configured for safety) Root: 32 GiB btrfs on SSD Boot: 512 MiB ext2 on SSD Home: 1.9 TiB xfs on soft-raid10 with 4 hard disks Net: Realtek RTL8111/8168 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller + soft-bridging on top for virtualisation Your feedback is highly appreciated! Hi, just to be noted, that is not required to boot with openSUSE. Any nmodern Linux is enough, that is that there should be is the /sys file system and the filled /dev/input/ directory. I'd like to know the output of for n in /dev/input/event*; do udevadm info -a --name=$n done then we might catch the input device for gpio-keys.8 and the power switch therein. [opensuse-factory] Tumbleweed = crawl-weed?

Pardon the subject, but one can read that I am not very impressed by Tumbleweed having packages from beginning of this year until sometime July/August and promote them as being new. Example: GCC-4.9.0 RC2?? We have 4.9.2 and nasm 2.10.x while 2.11.06 is already out for some time?? I switched to Tumbleweed because it should hold newer packages then the already many outdated ones in 13.2. Well, some are newer, many are not really new. I switched also because I am using LFS (Linux From Scratch) and found no problems with packages newer then most in any of the current opensuse distributions. Can we expect really newer packages - not lagging more then say a month - or just forget about Tumbleweed as being cutting-edge?
