Downloaded the .iso from: [CODE] ---------- http://download.opensuse.org/factory/iso/ (from mirror1) ------- See signiture for hardware info. Burned to a DVD+R and rebooted. Ran Check Media OK. Then an error occured during start up (I was out of room, so cannot say how far it got of that I had no way to copy. One line said something about cannot find MBR something. [opensuse-factory] A collection of new c libraries in factory

All, Joachim Metz, from Google, has written a set of c libraries to work with Microsoft files in linux. LGPLv3+ A overview is at http://code.google.com/p/libyal/wiki/Overview I have many of them now in factory with more coming. (If you see one you want that is not yet in factory, let me know.) They often include CLI tools to use the functionality. See libregf-tools - tools to parse MS registry files libevt-tools - tools to parse MS event logs in the pre-vista format libevtx-tools - tools to parse MS event logs in the vista and newer format libmsiecf-tools - tools to parse MS Internet Explorer Cache Files liblnk-tools - tools to parse MS link files. Similar to a symbolic link file libvshadow-tools (not yet submitted, find it in the filesystems repo) - tools to parse NTFS volume shadow copies libpff-tools - (not yet submitted, find it in the security repo) - tools to parse PST and OST files I am most intrigued by libvshadow. This is the only OSS tool I know of that even tries to give users access to NTFS volume shadow copies. FYI: The driving force behind me packaging most of these is that plaso is using them. Plaso is a new python application that parses filesystems and creates a single integrated timeline of all the activity found on the computer. It pulls events out of all of the above so the timeline can be comprehensive. (I don't think it uses libpff yet.) I just submitted python-plaso to factory a few minutes ago, but I think all of the dependencies it needs are already there. Hi, I am trying to use Virtualbox and tumbleweed. Currently, it has a problem of needing libpng14. Upon checking buildservice package page, i noticed that it has its repositories configured for opensuse tumbleweed and opensuse 12.2 update. Shoud opensuse 12.2 update be there as a repository ? Yes, GNOME 3.8 is now in Tumbleweed, but I would not mix the repos if you don't know exactly what you are doing. Just disable your gnome 3.8 stable one, and keep Tumbleweed and all should be fine. [opensuse-factory] Update 'speech dispatcher' to version 0.8pre1

Hi all, GNOME 3.8 has mostly moved on to python 3. An important component is orca, which followed this as well. (for the ones that do not know: orca is the screen reader component in GNOME). Currently, in Factory, orca is non-functional due to missing dependencies being built in python 3; most of them are fixed by now, but one critical component is still missing: - speech-dispatcher (the actual work horse). I did submit[1] an update of speech-dispatcher to the devel project (hardware) already. This is a courtesy notice to other 'users' of speech-dispatcher that this update is on its way; the current version is 0.8pre1 (0.8 release is still pending; but for python3 support, we need to move to this). According to osc, those packages depend directly or indirectly on speech-dispatcher: brltty chromium jovie kaccessible kmouth sbl Please pick yours and verify if this is all works with the new speechd or if work is needed in your packages. [opensuse-factory] Staging project for OpenExr 2.0?

Hi, there was a new major version of openexr 2.0. As this library is quite low-level, there might be some issues when pushing to Factory. So I propose to create a staging project for openexr2 to test/catch them before. Regards Michal Vyskocil

[opensuse-factory] starting "Terminal': runtime check failed: SESSION_MANAGER environment variable not defined

I've been using Terminal for about a year as a clean and easily config'ed Terminal window. Since a recent update in factory I get warning spit out in the window where I start Terminal that I didn't used to get: (Terminal:31033): GLib-WARNING **: (gerror.c:390):g_error_new_valist: runtime check failed: (domain != 0) Failed to connect to session manager: Failed to connect to the session manager: SESSION_MANAGER environment variable not defined It looks like some newly added runtime assumption(check) is failing. Is the assumption valid to be making?
