Hi I can't start the nfs rpc stuff on 12.2. e.g. > mount -t nfs hh1:/home2/MARINA /mnt -osec=krb5,vers=3 > checkproc: Empty pid file /var/run/rpc.statd.pid for /usr/sbin/rpc.statd > Starting rpc.statd ... portmapper not running failed > mount.nfs: rpc.statd is not running but is required for remote locking. > mount.nfs: Either use '-o nolock' to keep locks local, or start statd. > mount.nfs: an incorrect mount option was specified Has something changed? I tried rcnfs start and rpc.statd but I can't get the rpc stuff to stick. Hi all, A few things; I'm maintaining a growing number of packages for Fedora EPEL (Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux); This packages are mainly used by several departments/development units in the company I work. This packages are probably not intended for the Desktop users, but for power users and most likely for telco's. Since I've dropped most of the useless stuff I maintained and embraced a 5 year period to maintain this packages, I would very well also maintain them on openSUSE; A few examples of this packages are: - lcm - thrift - darwin streaming server - pretty much all the asterisk related stuff (asterisk, dahdi modules (formerly zaptel), userspace tools, etc) To start with and since I can synch up stuff... lcm (https://code.google.com/p/lcm/) would be the first candidate; Since this takes it's time and I'm really trying to maintain this packages properly, which includes: - providing security updates (it's maybe time to unwrap a few hidden skills); - keep up the trolling business alive (http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/warriorshtm/evilclown.htm) - interact with upstream; - interact with relevant packaging communities (and be active); - follow the guidelines - etc Any suggestions in which project would be the best to host 'lcm'? Hi, For some reason we have one non-oss package in our oss repo and this needs to be fixed - so I would like to drop openmotif from oss and move it (and it's dependencies). To quote from http://www.opengroup.org/openmotif/faq.html: The Open Group Public License for Motif grants rights only to use the software on or with operating systems that are themselves Open Source programs. In restricting the applicability of the license to Open Source platforms this does not meet term 8 of the Open Software Definition (http://www.opensource.org/osd.html) Now the FAQ also claims they will make an open source release rather soon, but that document was updated last 2004 - and I don't think we will see a lot of new motif software in openSUSE in the future. Hallo, that is not a dumb question, but perfectly valid one! Let me collect my reasons for that * I am lazy, so I don't want to filter the non Factory results from package states * I cannot remove the repositories, because BS sucks - it won't allow you as a project maintainer to change it in a case if someone did a branch from it* * and I really do not care about fails in non Factory project - for instance, when porting Factory to jdk7, I've simply disabled sle11, and openSUSE targets * the split makes the purpose of the projects clear - this one is a devel one, that one is for those willing to use most recent software on other distributions * and I am not convinced, that adding more maintainers to one project is the right way to go - on the other hand I do not want to block interested people just for my lazyness > > Is the worry that with a single project, people porting to other > distributions and people updating for factory will step on each > others' toes? What does it mean for openSUSE ? - you might see more people hacking on various openSUSE projects - you might see less people responding on bugzilla or various projects (because they are hacking on something else) - and probably many other things (who knows). [opensuse-factory] Split devel and a "backports" project

Hallo, I've got a request from Frank to add CentOS, Mandriva and openSUSE 11.4 into Java:packages. I personally do not like this idea - J:p is intended to be a devel project for Factory. On the other hand, there might be someone will be interested and will take a care. And I don't want to block our community from that. So I am thinking about following concept 1.) create new Java:Factory project -> this will be the devel project for Factory, so only openSUSE_Factory repository will be added 2.) make project link [1] from Java:Factory - Java:???. In this project more targets can be enabled and it can have more maintainers taking a care about such distributions. 3.) the changes in Java:??? will be submitted back to :Factory. If not, then :??? project won't be synced with :Factory. This is a responsibility of those will do the change.
