The package contains macros to support packaging of Haskell libraries and applications. It is based on Fedora's Haskell packaging guidelines and adapted to openSUSE. Hello, I have an external drive formatted and attached at bootup. The /etc/fstab entry is this: /dev/sdb1 /media/disk reiserfs acl,user_xattr 1 2 The problem is that a ordinary user cannot write to the disk , only root can. I am using opensuse 12.1 on this machine. Questions. -How can the disk be mounted so a ordinary user can write to the disk ? -What commands do I need to run to to do this, examples would be useful ? [opensuse-factory] Help bootstrapping Haskell compiler (ghc) in Factory

Dear OBS maintainers, I would like to bootstrap ghc (the Haskell compiler) in Factory which means I need to get a binary version of ghc into Factory and also have some settings added to the project configuration of Factory. My first attempt using an aggregate in SR #137052 was rejected automatically by licensedigger. I should have asked for help in the first place :-) This discussion is perhaps not very exciting for most subscribers to this mailing list. As many of you might have noticed already, the 3.6.0 kernel is now in openSUSE:Tumbleweed. I'll be working on getting the latest KDE update into the tree over the next week or so. Jiri, you had a big tumbleweed git update for me to pull from, right? Do you want me to do that, or do the KDE update "by hand" as I've done it before? The package aggregates ghc and hscolour from devel:languages:haskell so we can bootstrap those two packages in Factory. After bootstrap of ghc and hscolour (will be submitted shortly) is done, this package is no longer needed and can be deleted. I will send a request for deletion then so you don't have to track that. All, It is time for the next Google event, hurray :) , and once again we would like to participate as a mentor organization. Having successfully participated in the Google Summer of Code and also last year's Google Code-In we are once again aiming to participate in a Google event; Google Code-In 2012, see http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:GCI for details. Therefore we need tasks and mentors. This year the rules have changed a bit and this should put things on a different footing compared to last year. Google is not handing out money to the students, rather a trip to Google HQ in Mountain View, CA for an awards ceremony is provided for 2 students plus guardian for each of the participating projects. Only 10 open source projects will be selected. Therefore, it is time to get your good ideas and things that are on your list but that you are never going to get to onto the the task list. We are looking for tasks in the following 5 categories: 1.) Code: Tasks related to writing or refactoring code 2.) Documentation/Training: Tasks related to creating/editing documents and helping others learn more* 3.) Outreach/Research Tasks related to community management, outreach/marketing or studying problems and recommending solutions 4.) Quality Assurance: Tasks related to testing and ensuring code is of high quality 5.) User Interface: Tasks related to user experience research or user interface design and interaction *Note: Translation tasks are not allowed As you add tasks to the list please remember that the students targeted by this contest are 13-17 years of age, thus adding a task to fix a kernel bug to the list is probably not the best fit. We want to provide an environment where these students can learn, but also are challenged and stretched out of their comfort zone a little bit. [opensuse-factory] Splitting deb?

Hi. I saw that Marguerite has added another two Debian packages to the "deb" openSUSE package. As a user of and contributor to that package, may I suggest that we stop that (and instead do the opposite, split the package)? I don't know what the historic reasons were for collecting multiple independent source packages in one RPM. But by now this is a very big and complicated spec file which makes maintenance somewhat hard, especially when multiple people are working on it. It also makes it hard to use parts of the packaging for other purposes (e.g. Fedora already has a dpkg package, but no debhelper or devscripts package. The current deb package doesn't work for Fedora and adapting it would make the spec file even bigger [it needs overrides for the automatic perl dependencies and other changes]) If there is no opposition I would volunteer to do all the work of splitting the deb package in its components and submit them to Factory (Probably something that would be targeted for 12.3, not 12.2?). Opinions? Would it make sense to file a bug about this? Or a fate entry? Hi, I promised to release Milestone0 this week, but it turned out that this week has a german holiday and both Ismail and me take off the remaining of the week, so we need to hurry a bit :) The status of the distribution is actually pretty good, but the new kernel triggered a problem with the installation media - they no longer can initialize graphics mode. This in itself is a small problem as you can easily work around it by installing with "no kms", but it lead to the fact that all openqa tests show the very same problem, so I can't say what else is missing. But assuming the best, the updated tests will show that it's all green and I will upload tomorrow. Or we will have to back to square 1 and release M0 the week after. Hallo all, Reading the discussion about dropping sysv init, it seems the number of people are opposing against it is big. I have an idea for people wiling to maintain and use it in the future. It is trivial to create a community project dedicated to that task. All you need is to have a devel project (Base:sysvinit), where you will maintain sysvinit and all needed init scripts. As our software stack is really powerfull, it can be done easily. This is the snippet of the spec file providing the init script for vsftpd. Name: vsftpd-sysv Description: Sysvinit script for vsftpd Supplements: packagageand(sysvinit:vsftpd) Requires: sysvinit Requires: vsftpd Source0: vsftpd.init %post %{inserv ... The biggest advantage is that there will be a group of people taking a care about sysvinit, which is better from what we have now. The disadvantage (or maybe an advantage) is that the amount of needed work will be probably huge, especially adapting on upcomming changes in Factory. I'm talking especially about Gnome, where systemd is (planned to be) integrated into core parts (gdm, gnome-session, ...) and the Supplements trick won't work here, so the $sysvinit project will be enforced to provide own packages in some cases. But in anycase, the future is in your hands ... BTW: I am not going to be a part of such project as I support systemd migration - I just wanted to raise my idea to you Regards Michal Vyskocil

Hello all, I have been having a problem in which the installer with default kernel freezes when "Searching for Linux Partitions" during the probing. This has been happening since 12.2 M1 - M3. To resolve this I add "acpi=off" to the boot options. This should not happen with the default kernel. Should I add this as a bug under "Installation" or "Kernel" in Bugzilla? -- Cheers! To: systemd Mailing List <systemd-devel(a)lists.freedesktop.org> Heya, http://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/systemd-193.tar.xz CHANGES WITH 193: * journalctl gained a new --cursor= switch to show entries starting from the specified location in the journal. * We now enforce a size limit on journal entry fields exported with "-o json" in journalctl. Fields larger than 4K will be assigned null. This can be turned off with --all. * An (optional) journal gateway daemon is now available as "systemd-journal-gatewayd.service". This service provides access to the journal via HTTP and JSON. This functionality will be used to implement live log synchronization in both pull and push modes, but has various other users too, such as easy log access for debugging of embedded devices. Right now it is already useful to retrieve the journal via HTTP: # systemctl start systemd-journal-gatewayd.service # wget http://localhost:19531/entries This will download the journal contents in a /var/log/messages compatible format. The same as JSON: # curl -H"Accept: application/json" http://localhost:19531/entries This service is also accessible via a web browser where a single static HTML5 app is served that uses the JSON logic to enable the user to do some basic browsing of the journal. This will be extended later on.
