Hi, I'm starting to wonder if it makes sense to keep the enigmail package available as a package in openSUSE and would like to hear your opinion. Usually there is not much advantage in having Addons as RPMs but in case of Enigmail I always offered an exception for the following reasons: - enigmail should be part of TB by default (IMHO) - during the whole gcc C++ ABI changes there was no working Enigmail as public addon - for quite some time there was no x86-64 version available At the moment I think enigmail is pretty usable as provided by enigmail.mozdev.org (or addons.mozilla.org) It has both relevant architectures and multi locale support. On the other hand it turned out to be pretty problematic to offer a really working enigmail (with locales) for the fast pace of Thunderbird (beta) versions. In addition in the beginning it was meant to support Thunderbird and Seamonkey but in reality because of version differences it only supports Thunderbird anyway (most of the time). So what do you think about it? I'm currently running TB6beta2 with enigmail as available as nightly from the enigmail project and it's quite usable. IMHO this is sufficient and I'd recommend to drop enigmail as subpackage from Thunderbird in Factory. [opensuse-factory] Getting systemd to work on Factory

Since some days I am trying to get systemd to work on my system. I already tried the packages from Factory and from Base:System, but both end up in exactly the behaviour. Systemd is booting the kernel and then to end up in a console login prompt. After several minutes nothing is happening and strangely enough trying to login also fails. The system is asking me for the password, but somehow the shell is never started. I don't know what happened as that a few months ago with one of the early version of systemd, things were working as expected. I guess that I am doing something wrong or that maybe a certain setting is preventing systemd to work properly. I would appreciate any help on this topic. Hi, I wonder: did anybody look at integrating firewalld (a firewall service daemon with D-BUS interface managing a dynamic firewall), or proposing a similar dbus API for what we have? Hi, If I'm using kernel 3.0.0 from tumbleweed I can get just stereo-sound. The center, subwoofer and rear-loudspeaker are silent.Booting the last installed 2.6.39.2-35 the sound is working fine. As you know hal is needed for normal operation of KDE3. Some people who run Factory with KDE3 have reported that hal now apparently has insufficient permissions to mount removable drives. [opensuse-factory] Change behavior of writting new kernel in boot menu

Hi, due to some complains about using values for new kernel entries from sysconfig I change behavior in perl-Bootloader to use value from menu.lst and only when old entry is not found use as backup sysconfig value. I also merge some fixes from SLES. Are there volunteers to test new package? ( mainly test updating kernel packages, try if manual changes to menu.lst preserve kernel update ). I don't want break factory in such sensitive part. Hi all, for a few days (weeks? Not sure... ) my /dev/fuse has wrong permissions: > ls -la /dev/fuse crw------- 1 root root 10, 229 Aug 8 08:59 /dev/fuse This in turn stops sshfs from mounting anything (actually: no permission to use fuse for normal users). Is this an intentional change at some point? I'm not entirely sure when it started, as I do not use fuse on a daily base, but having this issue now means I always have to set the permissions right for fuse to work at all. The udev rule does seem normal to me: KERNEL=="fuse", MODE="0666", OPTIONS +="static_node=fuse", \ RUN+="/bin/mount -t fusectl fusectl /sys/fs/fuse/connections" Anything else I can check? Hi there ;) Strange issue here, every time I issue a "dmesg" as user, the output ends with \xffffffba\xffffffba\xffffffba\xffffffba\xffffffba\xffffffba\xffffffba\xffffffba\xffffffba\xffffffba\xffffffba\xffffffba\xffffffba\xffffffba (ad nauseum several lines more) cat'ing /var/log/messages does not result in this behaviour.. My system gets regularly dup'ed to tumbleweed, and additionally updated to the latest patches. (Is that a bad idea?) Something keeps toggling my damned wireless radio off and I'm trying to figure out what it might be, relevant parts of /var/log/messages: <https://gist.github.com/1129669> I've tested this on a number of networks and I can't quite pin down what might be killing the radio, but it seems to happen periodically whether I like it or not. FWIW I've tried this with a 3.0 kernel from Tumbleweed as well as a 11.4 (2.6.39) kernel, both exhibit the same behavior. Thoughts - R. I have the following line in the project config: %define is_kde_kde3 1 Then in the spec file this is checked: %if 0%{?is_kde_kde3} > 0 ... %endif It seems that the package still builds as if the condition was not met. If to replace "%if 0%{?is_kde_kde3} > 0" with "%if 1 > 0 " the block under the condition runs. Hi, today I've noticed inconsistencies with logfile permissions and logrotate which leads me to think about a feature request. For example /var/log/localmessages seems to be created at installation time with 0644 root:root But the first log rotation changed this to 0640 and my users complained about that. The permission change is caused by /etc/logrotate.d/syslog: .... /var/log/warn /var/log/messages /var/log/allmessages /var/log/localmessages /var/log/firewall /var/log/acpid /var/log/NetworkManager { [...] create 640 root root [...] } So there are at least two places where these permissions are defined, one at installation time and the other in /etc/logrotate* Since "man logrotate" says: create mode owner group [...] Any of the log file attributes may be omitted, in which case those attributes for the new file will use the same values as the original log file for the omitted attributes. I would suggest to change logrotate config from "create 640 root root" to just "create" and to track these logfiles within /etc/permissions* too. This would make things more generic, simple and consistent. [opensuse-factory] Yast2 crashes on startup with Qt from GIT

Hello, Please be advised that graphical Yast2 no longer starts on my system (OpenSuSE 11.4 /Tumbleweed). I'm a KDE dev so: - I have Qt and KDE running from sources, - all distribution KDE packages are uninstalled, - the paths are adjusted as to load first my compiled Qt and KDE binaries. I have several core dumps on my system showing that y2controlcenter crashed, but I think they're not very useful as there are no debug symbols on my system for yast and the command zypper search debug | grep yast show that these packages are not available. [opensuse-factory] Problems installing M3: LVM and black screen during boot

Hi, I tried installing Milestone 3 but ran into a few problems. The first is with LVM: telling the installer to use LVM and then using the defaults resulted in an error as it prepared the disks. Should using LVM be working? I then retried using traditional partitioning and found that when the kernel rebooted I was left with a black screen with a cursor in the top-left corner. Powering off and booting again didn't help. Is there some logging I could enable to diagnose the problems? Hi, after reading the other thread about a big KDE Update in Tumbleweed . i don't see it - all the packages I get offered after a zypper refresh are still KDE 4.6.5 . Question: is the Update to KDE 4.7.0 not published yet and do we have an estimate when it will be? Libreoffice 3.4 is already out since a few month but tumbleweed still has 3.3 - 3.4 was released on 3rd of June and already 3.4.2 is available. Question 2 : Whats the status of bringing Libreoffice 3.4.x (probably .2) to Tumbleweed . As i want have as less extra repos as possible and still be up-to-date - Tumbleweed is ideal for me . Hi, Recently I had a from mail saying the package I have submitted to factory had been reviewed and it was changed from review to new. So far so good. As I understand the legal aspect of submission is clear to go. But, I am not sure if the package is accepted or not Also since the first submission of the package to factory the revision was always up to date with the devel repo package. That stopped being the case now. Now since there is a bugfix version of the package which is residing happily in the devel repo. I see that xplanet was removed from openSUSE, apparently on or after release 10.3. Does anybody know the reason for this, or object to re-instating if there a current program that uses it? Does anyone know what package in factory has the linux/videodev.h file? A package I am trying to build needs it as a dependency. Is this obsolete since the upgrade to 4.7? It was still installed here, and with a fresh user login, KDE got half started, then just stopped, hanging X. Escape required remote ssh login, or reboot via power button. There was no objection to zypper rm kdebase4-session, so I proceeded. Then the desktop proceeded to start, then the screen went black, with nothing but a mouse pointer. So I reinstalled kdebase4-session, but still KDE won't finish startup. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." All, I want to push devel:languages:perl > perl-Net-Pcap to factory. I haven't tried because the i586 compile fails because it claims libpcap.a is not available in factory. I have a submit request to factory with sr#74031 regarding shorewall package that was introduced to this list <http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2011-06/msg00358.html> on 17 Jun 2011. So my question is, it has been already 6 weeks that the package is waiting in the queue, will mine and the other requests be resolved before the freeze period arrive. Hi, This is my last week before summer vacation, so I would like to start early with the planning. The milstone is scheduled for 11th and I said from the start that I don't have time there and I think only Vincent light heartly volunteered - but DS is at the same time, so this will be challenging. I'm returning on 23rd and that will be hopefully enough time for M5. But a M4 would be good to see, but dropping it is at least an option.
