[opensuse-factory] Can you make an exception and add kernel 3.1 to 12.1?
Hi everybody, Could you make an exception and add kernel 3.1 as the kernel for 12.1? And, if it's too late. Can you add it as an update? Cheers! Roman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Why, what is missing in 3.0 that you need that is in 3.1?

You can always use Tumbleweed. And also, why do you think that 12.1 is going to be using 3.0 and not 3.1 in the first place? greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I read on Phoronix that it was faster when using Sandy Bridge. I'm not sure how it applies to my Intel 6600 Quad-core.
I wouldn't trust Phoronix about much of anything when it comes to realistic benchmarks, sorry.

I am now using Tumbleweed.
Then you don't have to worry about anything... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I wouldn't mind having that wiiremote driver... -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
I'm jumping into this Thread because of graphic drivers considerations : - Could it be possible to backport patches from nouveau/linux kernel tree that enables open firmware ? Currently the lack of firmware make fermi unable to accelerate anything ; dumping firmware from nvidia blob is not something easy even for advanced user... The patch to backport is this one : http://cgit.freedesktop.org/nouveau/linux-2.6/commit/?id=1a679765205cd5c9211... - Ivi bridge is scheluded for late 2011/ start 2012, meaning that users with this generation of hardware will have to wait for openSUSE 12.2. Maybe a backport from linux 3.1 would make things easier for end users here too. ----- Mail original -----

The nouveau developers need to push their code to the main kernel.org tree for us to be able to even start to consider it.

Or they could use Tumbleweed :) Let's wait to see what 3.1 looks like, and when Ivy Bridge actually ships. greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Hey, nobody has said yet if 12.1 will ship with 3.0 or even 3.1, so it's way too early to talk about possible backports! It probably depends on how far 3.1 will be when the gate closes for feature changes in 12.1, and when that date comes near (do you know when that is?) it makes more sense to discuss if anything should or should not be backported. Intel already committed codes needed for IvyBridge to upstream. 3.0 kernel already contains the most of necessary stuff in the kernel side, AFAIK. Takashi -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
