Hello, I prepared updated syslog-ng packages with the close supervision of Marius Tomaschewski, the maintainer of the syslog-ng package. They are available in home:czanik in the openSUSE BS. I repeatedly see "Microcode SW error detected. Restarting" in /var/log/messages when I connect to a 802.11n network. As side effect, connection speed drops to 1MBit/sec. Well, some applications in 11.3 accidentally crash. But most of them does not want to crash in a moment I am debugging them in the gdb, I searched in the documentation and found a simple solution. Collect cores: 1. Set SOFTCORELIMIT in /etc/sysconfig/ulimit to "unlimited" or do this just now by: ulimit -c unlimited 2. mkdir /cores ; chmod +t /cores ; chmod og+rw /cores 3. Add a line to /etc/sysctl.conf: kernel.core_pattern = /cores/%e-%t-%u.core or do this just now by: echo "/… [View More]cores/%e-%t-%u.core" >/proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern Core files will be stacked to /cores and ordered by application name and time and will never overwrite. You can easily find a most crashing application there. Install debuginfo: gdb often complains on missing debuginfo packages. You can easily install all of them by copy and paste it to the console input of following command: eval zypper install $(sed -n 's/Try: zypper install//p') Well, you can do the same using the gdb log file and then reading it: eval zypper install $(sed -n 's/Try: zypper install//p' <gdb.log) And in gdb use: Nebo v gdb set logging file gdb.log set logging file on set pagination off attach {pid of application I want to debug} detach attach {pid of another application I want to debug} Well, and if you have a core file, do the final well known: bt or thread apply all bt Notes: Don't forget to check the backtrace in Bugzilla and submit unique crashes. If it is an accidental crash, it makes sense to submit the backtrace to the upstream Bugzilla, if the crash makes a big problem to use particular application or if you suspect that it is openSUSE specific, submit it to the Novell Bugzilla as well. All these crashes I have seen were triggered by Adobe Flash or Adobe Reader and I have no chance to fix them. OpenSuSE 11.3 GM seems to have a problem with either KDE or nouveau kernel module. I have downloaded and compiled two different git weeks and still have the same problem after git Simgear, Flightgear and FGData have been compled and reinstalled. That is that in both cases fgfs comes up with the bootsplash and seems to load models up the Scenery loading part and then crashes, blow up or whatever disappears. Using Nouveau, KVM, defaults, KDE4 is full of corrupted graphics and will periodically crash - this is something reported by a few people in various places (ML, forum etc). Hey Group; Not a openSuSE 11.3 problem When I run "mandb" it works correctly but on many files it shows an error. Like with about all files with "::" in them and "What is parse for" on many others. I suspect that the :: is cauced by a lack of \:|: and the "psrse" question is due to a wrong format type. What is the answer to the parse question? This is a vent, but it's serious. Every time a GM comes out with gross bugs, I have feelings of hopelessness and inadequacy with regards to my beta testing of openSUSE. Having Dave's solution whereby you maintain your own customized repo of installed rpms for your own unique hardware and software requirements without regard to artificial sourcing and other limiting factors is a good idea and given the likely hood that companies and organizations can suddenly go out of business or lose interest, support and their resources and their centralized repositories may suddenly disappear leaving you without recourse. Even recently, openSUSE experienced that power failure and thankfully, I had my local repo so I could continue installing my other systems including the updates that normally would have had to wait until the power failure was resolved. So for the price of a few gig that I have to download once anyway, I have a way to ensure I can recover my installation anywhere on my LAN even if O.O or Novell goes out of business or the distro is no longer supported due to 'age' or interest by the devs. Dave Rankin did a good job and gave us all a good tool and while it doesn't diminish the tool you pointed out, it gives a hedge against the day that is removed because of space or other considerations as well as being totally customized to my (or your if you use it) needs. Version 11.3 Teal latest DVD and postgresql-8.4.4-2.3.i586 from openSuSE with and /etc/init.d/postgresql fail to bootup or run directly. It even writes ~/data as /root/data. If it worked it should be (su - postgres) ~/pgsql/data. That is because postgres user has a home directory of /var/lib/pgsql Include is a the message that comes at boot time. With Factory (RC2?), I have lot of problems to write dvd's * k3b still don't write BD (sould be on 2.0, we have 1.92?) * strange error messages about write speed * refuse to writie some kind of files (from a VIDEO_TS folder) do this need to be reported through bugzilla or directly upstream?
