[opensuse-factory] Updating Berkely DB

Hi, I am currently thinking about upgrading our bdb packages to a new release. For that I just submitted libdb-4_8 (containing db-4.8.30) to devel:libraries:c_c++. Would be nice if somebody with sufficient privileges in devel:libraries:c_c++ could accept submit request #48969. The next step would be integration into Factory by submitting it to Factory and adding "Provides: libdb-devel" to libdb-4_8-devel while removing it from libdb-4_5-devel (I guess we still need to keep libdb-4_5 around for some time) to make depended packages build against the new Version. But as history has shown libdb version updates can be a source of trouble so I'd like to ask what the best aproach would be to integrate it into Factory. In the pre-Buildservice times we had the "BETA" distribution to test those bigger changes. How is it handled nowadays? Is openSUSE:Factory:Staging comparable to BETA? BTW, while there are even newer Versions available (db-5.1.19 being the most recent one, released a few days ago) I decided to take the 4.8.X Version for now. The main reason for that is that e.g. OpenLDAP (which relies heavily on bdb) does not yet support any 5.X version. [opensuse-factory] Submission to factory of libraw1394, libavc1394 and libdc1394

Hi, I've submitted the following three packages, all part of the libraw1394 update, to factory : srs #49953, #49954 and #49956 It would be a good idea to accept all three at the same time, especially libdc1394 which has been fixed to build with the updated libraw1394. [opensuse-factory] kdm gives no desktop in 11.4M2

Hi, On a system which ran 11.4M1 without problems I upgraded with zypper up to M2. I got some peculiar results (not all represented in the subject of this post). Installation itself went flawlessly, but not so first boot. Grub presented the boot menu fine, but after choosing the regular M2 I got nothing but a black screen, and a lot of processor activity, to judge from the increasing fan speed. So I rebooted and chose the fail safe version, which booted all right and presented the kdm login screen. But a few seconds after giving user name and password, the login screen is presented again. Rebooting again, I tried the regular version again, and this time it booted OK. Which it has done ever since, so I cannot reproduce the initial failure. But the kdm login problem is persistent. From the messages I find, two seem irregular to me: kdm[1987]: X server for display :0 terminated unexpectedly which seems rather obvious in this case, and startpar: forward read: Input/output error of which I don't know if it has anything to do with the X-problem By the way, the system on which this is running has also a disk set containing 11.3 final, which runs without problems, so I would not think of hardware failure. I did not find this bug in bugzilla (M2 is even no possibility there...) Any clues? [opensuse-factory] guile 2.0 branch

Hi list, according to http://www.gnu.org/software/guile/news.html we will have guile 2.0 stable branch out soon and we should consider it for 11.4. Let's look on home:pgajdos:guile19x. There are some packages which are/could be involved. gc: new version 7.1 needed by guile gnucash: new (unstable) version 2.3.15 guile1.9-ready TODO: test if it works guile: latest 1.9.12 as beta for stable 2.0 branch inkscape: BuildRequires gc-devel, but builds fine with new version libdbi: needed by new gnucash, nowdays not in Factory, but in devel:libraries:c_c++ and according to internal PDB database it is going to be in Factory (?) TODO: have it in Factory slib: builds fine with new guile autogen: not building with new guile so far gnome-games: not building with new guile so far graphviz: builds fine with new guile trackballs: not building with new guile so far lilypond: not building with new guile so far That's all dependencies I am aware of, if you know some other, please let me know. I will work on not building packages, but help is appreciated of course. If you have any suggestions, comments etc., please speak up. Petr

[opensuse-factory] Update of very old libraw1394 announcement

Hi, I have libraw1394-2.0.5 waiting in the wings to update from version 1.3.0, the last version update was Tue Mar 18 20:58:03 CET 2008, I think this is due to the libraw website dying. My search found many packages dependent on it, one being kdebase4-workspace and a few Packman ones, fortunately most are in the multimedia projects so can be easily fixed. The main change is streaming video handling. I'm in the process of getting new package ffado, which needs libraw1394, ready for factory and I still have to find or create dbus-c++ for ffado so it will be a couple of weeks before libraw hits factory, it's going to multimedia:libs next week where I will try to find any glitches.
