I thought I was getting a usable GUI as on Kubuntu and Fedora. I tried building the Fedora source on 11.4 M2, but it didn't work out and I haven't had the chance to dig further. [opensuse-factory] rpmlint failing KMP packages (missing-supplements)

All, Lots of KMP packages seem to be failing on Factory atm because of rpmlint errors, specifically these ones usb-rndis-lite-kmp-desktop.x86_64: E: suse-policy-kmp-missing-supplements (Badness: 10000) usb-rndis-lite-kmp-xen.x86_64: E: suse-policy-kmp-missing-supplements (Badness: 10000) usb-rndis-lite-kmp-default.x86_64: E: suse-policy-kmp-missing-supplements (Badness: 10000) |usb-rndis-lite-kmp-default.x86_64: W: suse-policy-kmp-missing-enhances kernel-default usb-rndis-lite-kmp-desktop.x86_64: W: suse-policy-kmp-missing-enhances kernel-desktop| Despite my preamble containing: Requires: kernel-%1 Enhances: kernel-%1 Supplements: packageand(kernel-%1:%{-n*}) and rpm showing these as expected in the buildlog. What are these checks looking for, or are they broken? See for example Virtualization/virtualbox-ose. I've temporarily put a filter in rpmlintrc, but previously system:SynCE/usb-rndis-lite was also failing. [opensuse-factory] TCT Bug Screening/Mucking with Parameters

oS Devs, Would you find it agreeable for the Testing Core Team (general community even?) to triage and otherwise change major parameters for bugs in bugzilla? I assume the advice in the wiki pertaining to KDE bugs is generally applicable [http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Bug_Screening_KDE] but I'd like to get an definitive answer for the rest of the distro. For example: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=640584 It's a bug relating to Banshee. I can confirm the bug in early milestones, but I can also confirm that recent Factory builds fix it. Knowing this much I could just close the report as resolved. Or is such behaviour going to endanger somebody's ability to buy bread and new motherboards? In all seriousness, I'm just inquiring to make sure we enhance rather than break developer work flows. Be 64 years of age and having a bad memory I was in hopes someone could refresh my memory as to how to solve a " -lwrap ". problem. As I remember it came from a file starting with "net". Please note I had it saved from before but I had a hard drive take a long term vacation. zypper in net* didn't offer anything to solve the problem. [opensuse-factory] C implementation of update-alternatives

Hi all, I noticed Debian folks reimplemented the old good update-alternatives command from Perl to C. That means your-favourite-program (like awk or vim) will no longer depends on Perl in openSUSE. Good think is - new implementation is backward compatible, so no changes in %scripts are required, no reinstallation and so. And what is better, the simple %post update-alternatives --install %preun update-alternatives --remove calls would work without a problem, which is the most common use-case. I found only two notable differences: 1.) more verbose by default - considering to change it, as all things are already logged to /var/log/alternatives.log zypper remove java-1_6_0-openjdk Removing java-1_6_0-openjdk-1.6.0.0_b18-1.29 [done] Additional rpm output: update-alternatives: warning: alternative /usr/lib64/jvm/jre-1.6.0- openjdk/bin/java (part of link group java) doesn't exist. Removing from list of alternatives. update-alternatives: warning: alternative /usr/lib64/jvm/jre-1.6.0-openjdk (part of link group jre_openjdk) doesn't exist. Removing from list of alternatives. ... and much more 2.) Don't allow the same slave alternative in more than one - bnc#648260 - even if it's a bug in openjdk packaging I prepared package is in OBS - home:mvyskocil:update-alternatives/update- alternatives [1]. [opensuse-factory] KDE4 headache

Hey Group; Why does KDE4v2 and openSuSE 11.4 not allow a user to open a "Desktop Folder" sub-directory icon. This is a icon that worked earlier under 11.3. It now requires a "root" password to open it. Hi, There is one rather important update to the way we build factory, that I didn't yet announce properly: We now only rebuild packages if their sources changed (they were submitted) or if we trigger the rebuild manually. This means that there might be cases where factory syncs out but some things do not yet work because e.g. (let's make up something here) sqlite3 changed it's default data format and all packages relying on sqlite3 need to recompile so that they figure the new default. In this case we need to learn this (someone has to report it e.g. here) and then we can rebuild all those. And in case you wonder the factory updates are still that large: this is because I wrote a script to retrigger all packages where I could find out they have problems in just emulating their installation. Unfortunately I made some mistakes along the way, so it triggered once or twice more packages it should have - but this is hopefully just a phase. I still plan to do a mass rebuild after every milestone release, so that we do not get outdated packages too soon (and build-compare will still catch the obvious). [opensuse-factory] module compilation on kernel change

One of the french forum user posted recently a script of interest: http://forums.opensuse.org/other-languages/francais-french/aide-et-support/… even if it's in french, the script is international langage The goal of this script is to recompile the necessary proprietary modules after a kernel update. I don't know if the script is well done, I have no knowledge of this kind, but it looks very interesting. In fact one of the most often asked question on forums is "why do my virtual box, nvidia card, ati card" don't work anymore this author seems not wanting to follow factory or OBS.
