YaST tells me libaa.so.1 is provided by (installed) aalib. Yet: # zypper se [-d] libaa.so.1 Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... No packages found. # What's the problem with zypper se here? 'zypper in vlc' cannot find a provider of libaa.so.1 either. Bug #646788 opened. A friend dictated this over the phone as he now has no connection - we're in the UK. He tested with a 11.2 laptop and got a connection. [opensuse-factory] lcms2 in multimedia:libs to Factory

There's currently an lcms2 package in multimedia:libs that is not in openSUSE Factory. KOffice 2.3 can use it, so it would be handy to have it in Factory? Any objection to pushing it? The main issue is that (I am told) lcms2 is not a drop in replacement of lcms1 and the dependency list of lcms1 is about 360 packages in total, so it should be introduced it as a new package instead of a new version. The lcms2 in multimedia:libs is a branch of lcms(1) so i would submit lcms2 direct to factory and when it is accepted, link it in mulitimedia:libs. [opensuse-factory] xserver doesn't find fonts "Could not init font path element"

Hi, I'm playing with opensuse 11.3 + xserver from opensuse factory but it isn't able to find fonts even if these exist and fonts-config/fc-cache sees these. Even tried font server setting. Stracing xserver shows that it accesses fonts directory but somehow it decides that it cannot init such font paths. [dvgrab 3.5-3.4] dvgrab as distributed with the current openSuSE repositories is linked to libraw1394.so.8, which is too old if you use kernel 2.6.36-rc5 or newer (due to the module transition of the firewire support, from ohci1394 + ieee1394 + raw1394/video1394/dv1394 to firewire-ohci + firewire-core). I've compiled dvgrab manually; forcing a link to libraw1394.so.11 makes it work again. See https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19902 for details. Hi, I've submitted new package kid3-qt to factory, this is a non kde dependent version of kid3 which builds from the same sources. There isn't a music file tag editor in the distribution yet so this should be a welcome addition to the distro. I have a slow old PIII-1000 w/ 384M RAM, and KDE was just getting too slow and broken to suffer through. So, I used zypper rm to eradicate all *kd*, then 'zypper in patterns-openSUSE-lxde', then startx. That gave a black screen and mouse pointer. I thought I had failed to get any WM, but after a while I tried a right click, and discovered I was in openbox. I quit and went to look in /etc/sysconfig displaymanager, and found DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm". The preceding list of possibles has nothing resembling lxde. What should I use? I tried lxde and lxdm there, but neither changed anything I could tell. How do I get startx to open LXDE? startlxde|startlxde --help|startxde :0|startlxde -- :0 all return nothing. Ncurses yast doesn't seem to have a way to configure the display manager. There's a Desktop choice in /etc/sysconfig Editor, but I can't figure out a way to make it do anything. Is lxdm supposed to look different from xdm? Init 5 gives xdm even though the pattern installed lxdm. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Hi, I've submitted a new package ffado see http://www.ffado.org/ to replace libfreebob and enable firewire IEE 1394 support in jack again. sr 50027 The FFADO project aims to provide a generic, open-source solution for the support of FireWire based audio devices for the Linux platform. It is the successor of the FreeBoB project. FFADO is a volunteer-based community effort, trying to provide Linux with at least the same level of functionality that is present on the other operating systems.
