I have 11.0 with KDE 3.* working well on this Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop. The desktop effects (Compiz) are quick...nice, and remain until you log out, then they are gone. Is there a fix for this yet? [opensuse-factory] RC1 - Question 4: Cclone System for AutoYast

At the end of the installation process, just prior to the initial login, there is the option to CLONE SYSTEM FOR AUTOYAST. This option is not functioning. I have never used it before but tried it at the last install of RC1 (2 days ago) and couldn't get it activated (clicking on the tickbox produced no result). Again, is it just with my installation, please? This message is there again when running vmware guest. Boot option clock=pit used to prevent this message in all 10.x versions (and I think earlier, not sure anymore). [opensuse-factory] RC1 - Question 3: option to Boot Installed System

In the 10.3, and earlier, version one had the ability to use the DVD/CD to BOOT INSTALLED SYSTEM (part of the initial installation stage); this gave one the ability to boot into an existing system which couldn't be accessed normally because, say, there was a problem in grub. It seems that this option has been removed in 11.0 - or is it still there somewhere but I cannot see it? (I've had to use the DVD for 10.3 to boot into a problematic 11.0B3 several times recently.) [opensuse-factory] More Dependency frustration! (RANT)

Here's a list of some of the frustration I experienced trying to install RC1: Unselecting the yast-fingerprint reader deselected almost all of YaST!(qt, networking, etc) WTF???? Sorry, but that's ridiculous. I am constantly frustrated by all of these hardware dependencies that I DON'T have and should have to install: Bluetooth iPod Fingerprint? Like my 1999 Thinkpad 390X has that. irda - I have NEVER used this and it's bad to even install it. I've seen people's laptops get wiped from windows because they didn't know that their infrared was active. When i deselect this, it says it can't install laptop utils. WHY??? Why is this a dependency? Why is ANY hardware a dependency. Some of us don't have stuff like ISDN, Firewire, USB - yes, my Wallstreet powerbook doesn't even have USB so WHY should I have to install utilities to support USB? Granted, if I did get a cardbus USB card I would need it so I can kinda understand USB, but the rest? I've never even owned a firewire device. or an ISDN modem. The default install has TV apps? How about a popup that says - if you want to install your specific hardware, click here and select what you have. Sorry to rant, but I've complained about this since 10.0 was in beta. While hard drives are a lot bigger now, it's irriating to have to waste all this space on stuff I don't have, don't use and/or don't need. I could go on and on, but I'm done for now. I stick with openSUSE because I have used SuSE since v5.3, and no other distro has anything like YaST for configuration and I've always liked the selection that openSUSE offers. But while I not only run Linux on my Dual Core Celeron(overclocked 100%), I also run it on a 500Mhz P3 and a 266Mhz G3 among other older hardware. Having the same distro across platforms is such a great thing. Sorry if I am asking too much. [opensuse-factory] Networkmanager problems: "The permission of the setuid helper is not correct."

Hi list, I'm having problem with networkmanager, no matter if I run nm-connection-editor as root or regular user no connections are shown. terminal shows following error: ** (nm-connection-editor:8248): WARNING **: Could not retrieve dbus connections: The permission of the setuid helper is not correct. If I try to add connection I get same error: "The permission of the setuid helper is not correct." I have been using traditional network setup before, but I really like to use networkmanager for it's vpn-support. This is probably configuration related error (dbus/policykit) so I'm not filling bug report yet. Could someone point me to right direction so solve this, please. [opensuse-factory] RC1 light and shadow

Hi, I just installed RC1 on my Lenovo Thinkpad T60, with KDE 3.5 as default desktop. My experience: - During installation, I set the default boot entry to my old 10.3 installation. This resulted in having "default=2" in my menu.lst. But upon first boot, both 10.3 entries (default and fallback) have disappeared, and guess which OS was booting by default... Win XP!!! (OMG!) Anyone else had problems with the installer not copying previously existing entries? - First boot does not use kexec anymore. It did for beta 1 or beta 2 on this machine... has kexec been dropped? - There's a typo (possibly instroduced by the spell-checker in the german translation of the slideshow during installation - on the slide that announces OpenOffice it says that openSUSE ships the most recent office suit (which might be a nice feature btw, but hard to implement when installing from the internet ;) ) - The branding looks super-cool. The cloth-like texture during installation does a good job hiding gradient artefacts on 6-bit panels. Unfortunately, this is not the case for the kdm login screen: It looks kind of weird because the gray gradient shows blocky artefacts and also colors. Of course, I understand it's too late now to change the branding for the login screen. Otherwise, I'm very happy so far with RC1. Kudos to all of you! [opensuse-factory] Failed RC1 install.

I don't know of any install failure like this, so I'll list all the specs. Dell Celeron dual-core with 2G RAM, SATA2 120GB, Intel video. I can install from a live RC1 CD of 11.0, but the RC1 DVD fails at the very beginning of file installation with the following file: /suse/x86-64/libqua2-2.0.0-105.x86_64.rpm (hope I copied this correctly - late and I'm whipped). If I choose to "ignore" this, then it fails on: libpoppler-qt2-0.8.1-4.x86_64.rpm Then I get "Installation of Some Packages Failed" and the installer fails to Yast text mode. This is the same error(s) I had with the DVD install of 11.0 Beta3. Hopes this helps.
