Yes, it was intentional to remove the icon as our quest to clean up
software-related part of the YaST control center. We go too far according to
feedback.
OTOH, we did not make it clean up the automatic online update setup, which has
to wait for 11.1 :(

This is after an upgrade to Factory from openSUSE 10.3. In addition,
the 'sux' command is no longer found. When trying to update, for
example, I never get prompted for the root password and updating fails
with "Root privileges are required" and "su returned with an error".
What changed and how can I get the old update behavior back? Perhaps
a 'sudo' issue?
Thanks.

I found quite hard to find how to add the Community Repositories.
It take some time to me to find out that it is hidden in the Software
Management module.
I think the approach of 10.3, having a separated module to manage
Community Repositories is better. Specially for new users, who don't
have idea of such function. I found it because I know it so I started
to search it. But, IHMO is not the best for new users.
And, as I read in other messages, your target are the newbies.

Is a default runlevel of 3 intended for a desktop selection of KDE3?
Beta1, network install via ssh.
Thanks,

Hi,
Beta1 is out and we see a lot of testing by a lot of you, many thanks for
that. You can see the status of it in the list of most annoying bugs - not
too bad, not too good either :)
But I want to stress an important page, that Holgi was so nice to put
together: the list of implemented features:
http://en.opensuse.org/Testing:Features_11.0
Why is this important? Because these features are often the reason for changes
that cause bugs and as such are the central thing to test for new products.
So beside your usual "this is what I'm doing with it" testing, it would be
perfect if everyone could look at some.
For details how we think it could be done, see the text on the page:
> If you want to help testing, select the feature you want to test, edit this
> page and set it's "Testing Result" to "running" when starting the tests.
> After finishing the test, please edit the page again and set the result
> either to "passed" or to "failed".
>
> If the test do not pass, please also create a bug report in Bugzilla (see
> Bug Reporting FAQ for details) including the "Feature No".
>
> If you are unable to finish the test, please reset the status from "running"
> to "idle".
Thanks a lot for your support. Please note that this is the first time we're
doing it this way. Hopefully we'll have better tools for future versions, so
we'll gladly hear your feedback on what works and what doesn't.
Greetings, Stephan

The new installer defaults feel even more strange than the old ones.
In the old ones there was automatic login as default which I never accepted.
I got used to remove automatic login as well as turn on receiving root mail.
Now the new defaults go even further towards the other OS.
If there must be automatic login as default, so be it, I can live with that
But why is the user password also the sysadmin pw as default?
I can live with that, too, but is this a good thing really?
Is this feature one of those "good things" that the other OS is said to
have?
I'm in the middle of installing and configuring, so I don't have a real
opinion on that yet, though :)
I have made the first installation using KDE4 defaults all the way and
that's no biggie personally cos it can be changed but I'm wondering...

I am sorry to ask but it seems that I have missed reading about what
URLs need to be used (by zypper) to be able to update/upgrade Beta 1.
I have installed Beta 1 (32-bit) from the DVD and while during the
installation process the test of the Internet connection failed and the
'update server' could not be reached, and the Release Notes, therefore,
could not be downloaded, I nevertheless managed to find the way to
'enable' the Repositories in YaST's Software Management.
(To cut a long story short, initially I right-clicked on the icon in the
bottom-right of the taskbar and selected the Repositories option; after
this zypper went away and came back to inform me that there were 847
upgrades to be performed and when I 'told' it to do the upgrades the
whole sheebang sat there like a stunned mullet doing absolutely nothing
at which point I terminated the process. Then I found the new place (!)
where the repositories are 'configured' at which point Yast decided to
inform me that non of the listed repositories are accessible - or words
to this affect.)
However, zypper, when "told" to check for upgrades, shows an Error for
each repository.
I am assuming that the name of the URLs has changed. Could someone
please tell me what the URLs should be for the OSS and the NON-OSS are
(and whatever else which needs to be enabled and their URLs)?
Ciao.

Last week a day that had only half hour to read emails, the computer
was given for making the damned ext3 fsck on home and took more than
an hour. The home partition is of about 160 gb, and is at about 85%
ocuppied.
Opensuse 11 will come with reiser4?

I edited /etc/sysconfig/yast2 to use gtk as gui. But it's still using qt.
Is the gtk version available in beta1? if not, will be available in OS 11.0 ?
