[opensuse-factory] "blank screen" screensaver doesn't work in gnome

I disabled power management for the screen and selected "blank screen" in gnome. Instead of launching the screensaver, the CPU starts eating a whole core and the screen is frozen on the same picture until I move the mouse. This problem was discussed here: http://forums.opensuse.org/pre-release-beta/399091-phonon-bug.html I can add, that with getting this message, login melody interrupts. As a solution user must use xine-backend for phonon instead of gstreamer. My question is can be xine-backend be default on opensuse fresh install? [opensuse-factory] will release shipped with 2.6.27.8 kernel?

i was asking before about 2.6.28, but it is not acceptable, as i understand. now kernel 2.6.27.8 is available and it contains my wireless card support. So a few questions: Will release contain latest 2.7.27 kernel? Will there be sources of it in the repo? Hi! Situation: - openSUSE 11.1 with Gnome desktop. - hardware: nvidia - nvidia drivers; downloaded and installed from download.nvidia.com (no package), version 177.x. When I try to set "Activate desktop effects", I've obtain a message like "You cannot have a supported hardware for this" (or something like this). Any idea about this? [opensuse-factory] "User is not permitted ..." and user is root

What is meaning of this: "User is not permitted: org.freedesktop.packagekit.system-update" ? This happens time after time with system tray updater icon. User is root. Who has authority to prevent root from action? The org.freedesktop.packagekit.system-update, I don't think so. I did not mean to be rude or unfriendly and I realise it may have been a bad example. And yes I have many tech friends, and tech friends are who the non-techs ask for advice. I also did say there are good things about opensuse, please understand I only want to make things better, we are on the same team here and this subject is something I care a lot about and so do many others. I am not interested in ranting about this, I only want to fix the issue but to me it seems as though either no-one is listening or I do not know how to raise this as an issue properly or perhaps where to raise it. Perhaps even there is no-where to raise it? All I want and I'm sure everyone will agree is a nice stable OS. As far as your options above are concerned I would choose neither, I think 6 months is too quick because we don't seem to be able to get a reliable distro out of 6 months, but as I said that is my opinion. So at the end of the day I don't know if anything can be done, I've made suggestions before, perhaps to the wrong places but I've not had any action positive or negative, not even a no we can't do that from an authority figure who could approve such a change. When it comes to these high level decisions (which I know should only be made when very neccessary) I don't seem to be able to find anyone to talk to. I personally think making a stable OS is neccessary. I guess the first issue is to get an agreeance on if there is an issue, without that it is pointless. What I have noticed is that when the distro get's delayed a lot of people speak up and say, "That's great, more time before release means more bug fixes" showing that a lot of other people care about this topic too. For 11.1 though we let the distro stay in beta longer and reduced the RC time to compensate, to me that means more bugs will get in and less will get out, if we allow beta's to continue for a longer period of time, it shouldn't be at the expense of the RC's where we really throw polish in, (again in my opinion). So I guess the question there was which is more important, the release schedule or the quality of the release? It seems to me that the release schedule is getting more attention than the latter. So, does the community get to vote on how this schedule should be? Who makes the decision of the 6 months release schedule? If we are stuck with 6 months how could we do it better? Can we have clearer guidelines to show what 'shipstoppers' should be? Can we broaden the scope of a shipstopper? Honestly, if I'm the only one that thinks that this is an issue I'm happy to never bring it up again, but I'd bet I'm not. We could always stick a voting panel up on the opensuse main page to find out. And one last thing, if I offended anyone in the last email, please accept my apology. [opensuse-factory] Grub fails after changing boot order in Yast in RC1

Hello, I'm under pressure an not having time to post this to bugzilla, so maybe some of you can confirm the following: I installed oS 11.1 RC1 on an eeePC 1000h with a SD card. The system runs fine, after setting KNetworkmanager explicitely to WPA1 & WPA2/RSN and only TKIP. After the first update, a new kernel was installed, and as I rebooted, grub came up with a selection of opensuse and Windows, where the default was set to Windows. Therefore I booted openSuse, entered the Yast bootmanager configuration changed the boot order back to openSUSE. After this, I couldn't boot anymore, because grub was not found on the disk ('No operation system on HD'). Reinstalling oS brought back the full functionality. BOTH PCLinuxOS 2009 beta2 and Fedora are using the older Intel driver....we SHOULD being the same thing, so that all the 3 digit numbered chipsets don't suffer from excruciatingly BAD performance! Well, I find what they have to say about KDE of interest. ;) Fred _____________________ This beta iso features kernel 2.6.26.8.tex1, KDE 3.5.10, Open Office 2.4.1, Firefox 3.0.4, Thunderbird 2.0.0.17, Frostwire, Ktorrent, Amarok, Flash, Java JRE, Compiz-Fusion 3D and much more. We decided to use kde3-5-10 as our default desktop as the we could not achieve a similar functionality from kde4.
