[opensuse-factory] openoffice.org for PPC factory

Hello, Until now I tested smaller office sw on PPC, like abiword + gnumeric and koffice. Now I wanted to install OpenOffice.org, but I could not as OpenOffice.org is not available. Looking at the logs at https://build.opensuse.org/package/live_build_log?arch=ppc&package=OpenOffi… I see, that it was last tried to build beginning August. Could you please trigger a rebuild, and check if it works now? [opensuse-factory] packagekitd keeps locking system management

It seems that pretty much every time I try and run zypper I get a message like the following: System management is locked by the application with pid 5750 (/usr/sbin/packagekitd). Close this application before trying again. If I try it a few times the message goes away and zypper works. Now I understand there is an applet that checks to see if there updates at first boot but this message happens no matter how long I've been logged in and I believe has even reoccurred after running zypper previously. It seems like packagekitd keeps starting and stopping? [opensuse-factory] Problem with kupdateapplet in RC1

Hi list, I installed 11.1 RC1 (fresh install from DVD image), and have two problems with the updater applet using KDE 4.1: 1. Upgrades are not shown, even if YaST displays them. This problem appears both with the Packagekit and the zypper plugin. Is there some option that I need to turn on in addition to "show available upgrades if backend provides them"? 2. When installing patches (these are shown correctly), the first authorization dialog fails: I get an error message about missing user permissions (sorry, need to wait for the next available patches to get the exact wording). On a second try, updating starts, but I'm not asked for a password again (hence I don't think I mis-typed). 3. Even when updating starts (this again applies only to patches, I could not get upgrades of packages to show in the applet), after the first try, the same patches still showed as available. Repeating the procedure again then installed the patches. 4. The progress dialog does not report which patch is applied, it just reads "updating", with the progressbar not indicating a percentage, but going back from 0 to 100 and back continously. Does anyone else have these problems, or am I doing something wrong? FEDORA 10 is now available. Reportedly they have used the i810 driver and it works with the i965 chipset. Maybe that's what should be used with 11.1, since Intel nor anyone else seems able to get the current driver to work properly. Hi, I am using OpenSUSE 11.0 + KDE4 from the factory repository. Recently I noticed that the YaST system tray applet (with the SUSE logo that turns into a red warning sign or a yellow sun) stopped functioning correctly. [opensuse-factory] Media Administration of KDE has not been startet

I have tried to start in amarok 1.4 via the media menue media as mp3 from my usb-drive and get a message which I would translate with: "Media Administration of KDE has not been startet." The opening process stops then. Have no access to usb drive from amarok, but from dolphin, kaffein etc. This worked in 11.0, but fails now in 11.1 whether KDE 4.1.3 or 4.1.80. [opensuse-factory] Compiz on r300 - summary of weirdness

Hi guys, I recently dropped openSUSE 11.1 RC1 on a Dell XPS laptop just to see how it was faring for Compiz support on opensource drivers. I ran into a couple problems; some stupid and minor, and some just odd.. * I installed the system with KDE4.1 and got a working system out of it. The display resolution on this laptop (which is the size of a small house) is 1920x1600 - I noticed to start, the default KDE splash theme has a grey bar which is not wide enough to fill the screen all the way! This is the minor part! :) * Clicking Enable in Desktop Effects did not do anything. * Some investigation drew me to try running compiz --replace manually and this did not work - it complained about the driver not being in the whitelist. Question: Where is the whitelist?! And why isn't the X.org "radeon" driver in it? * I set SKIP_CHECKS=yes in ~/.config/compiz/compiz-manager as a lot of websites and wikis suggest and this enabled it to work just fine and ignore the whitelist. * However they also say "use kde4-window-decorator --replace" instead, which I tried, and was told by "command-not-found" that compiz-kde4 package was needed for this command. This is quite odd. Anyway after installing that package it works a little better, too, and I started testing with kde4-window-decorator. * Clicking Desktop Effects Enable does not do anything, still. It certainly does not turn on and off Desktop Effects. I am going to run through sometime this week or weekend and collect these problems into bug report(s) but I wondered if I was simply doing anything wrong. Considering desktop effects is meant to work out of the box I was curious to say the least that compiz-kde wasn't installed at all.. and I can't find any reference at all to the compiz system in any startkde4 or kwin script or wrappers for compiz (if indeed there are any, SUSE seems not to employ them as Ubuntu and Gentoo to). Can anyone tell me what I did wrong here? Anyone know why RC1 suddenly says it won't boot if I make /boot and XFS partition? I've been running XFS as a /boot partition since 10.3 with no problems and never noticed this message before. I'm installing now and don't know if it will or won't work but will let everyone know. I presume there is a change in code that has meant this message now presents itself? Hi! Some notes about my installation of today. * There was a annoying pause wetween "loading basic drivers" and "loading installation system" * It took ages to discover the partitions (may be related) * Harddisk shown as "sdb" (also related ?) * I've a encrypted /home - it was not detected as encrypted and its _really_ bad to have to check the "encrypted" checkbox beneath the "format filesystem" selection even if you use "just mount" ! * In the expert partitions view you click on "Quit" and not on "Apply" as it should be. * In general it took me more time to create my setup with the new partitioner. But that could also be my personal habits. * It took ages for the "cracklib-dict-full extension" to load. If that's retrieved via network, don't load it, if no network is available. * I really like the new console messages for (2, 5, 6, 9) * Installation process itself is running stable and fast atm. [opensuse-factory] Scanner-implementation with Yast fails

Hu listmates! I have an Officejet J 5780 in use under OS 11.1 KDE 4.1.3. Yast is providing a particular driver for the scanner. Hplip ist installed. The test scanner test in yast is ok, but when I try to start xsane, the program finds no scanning device and stops. This worked already under OS 11.0. Is there a workaround or has something changed which I am not aware of. Thanks in advance for any hints. Hi, Did this yesterday on Armada E500. This time it did not fall back to ncurses, and so the url was working right away, without having to insert the server ip-address, which does look much more professional this way;) The installer modules 1-6 seem all 1Kb, so they *seem* ready much too soon, while they have to load all different values. This feels not good, because while showing: 100%, 'something' is still loading... I know these modules all have different sizes, so i don't worry about it, but you know what i mean? There were no issues with the partitioner here: Small HDD, only W2K:C, swap, /, and /home, the right proposel was made.. it felt real thrustworthy. Wifi works like a charm here now. The choice for ifup or NM seems much more mature, and going back to make another choice doesn't break anything now, not even when going back to test another interface, (pcmcia (card inserted before hw detection), or pci) I installed by cable, but after restarting also wifi was up imediately;) There are still issues with the updater applet, but after manualy install them via Yast2, it seems to work ok. Some strange triggering about the java webstart and flash auto updater,they get installed after an unexpected prompt to agree with the license agreement, but they show in kickstart, and work. Fresh install performed OK, two times server time-out, but after retry, both times imediately continuing. Some 865MB were downloaded to iinstall some 2.3 GB, (this goes prettty much faster than DL a whole DVD, waste a DVD, and still using 865MB to install...imo) Overall process: smooth and licked;) (welldone, this is going to be my preferred way of installing;) -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (M9.) Hi, I'm having a problem with amarok 2 in openSuSE 11.1 RC1 (intel 32 bit): When adding a "media devices" applet, the program freezes. Anyone else having the same problem? There does not seems to be a bug report on this. This is the amarok version from the DVD, not an update from packman or another online repository. [opensuse-factory] Editable location bar in dolphin

Hi! Any reason why KDE4 on openSUSE 11.1 has an editable location bar in dolphin instead of the upstream default drop-down menu location-bar? The upstream default seems more convenient to me and it is just an option away in dolphin settings, but I am very interested in knowing why the editable one is the default. [opensuse-factory] usb 3g card and networkmanager

Using RC1 i'v succeeded in using a 3G usb card from Huawei (E220) using Networkmanager and KDE. The process wasn't plain plug and play though. Steps follows. Changed the behaviour of the USB dongle to NOT ask the pin code. Networkmanager have a text box where you can insert the pin for gsm card but didn't worked. Estabilished the connection trough wvdial just to get up a serial connection on ttyUSB0. Networkmanager recognised it only at this point and i set up it after this point using networkmanager. Dropped the wvdial connection Configured the ttyUSB0 connection via Networkmanager. At this point the connection succeeded but nameservers wheren't set so i had to modify MODIFY_RESOLV_CONF_STATIC_DNS to get it resolving names. The connection now works flawlessly. [opensuse-factory] RC1 and bluetooth adapter

I have a bluetooth adapter that works fine on openSUSE 11.0 but in openSUSE 11 RC1 doesn't work. When I run kbluemon I get the following error: No bluetooth adapter found! Unable to start kbluemon. Check your bluetooth adapter or restart the bluetooth service. The bluetooth service is running and openSUSE detects the bluetooth adapter. This is what I get when I run lsusb: Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0a12:0001 Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd Bluetooth Dongle (HCI mode) What could be wrong? [opensuse-factory] Failing to suspend - now with beeps!

OK, so openSUSE 11.1 RC1, I try to get my Sony Vaio FW-190 laptop to suspend, (this is GNOME) instead it locks the screen and makes several loud distressed beeps. It does not suspend the computer. So what do the beeps mean, and how can I diagnose the problem?
