[opensuse-factory] Yast2 Alpha 5

Key Group; I decided last night to try a "Yast2 > Software Management" on this machine ($HOSTNAME=m1l). I deselected the Yast check dependencies every time box due to the time it takes. I selected what I wanted and hit "Accept". At that point Yast did a automatic dependency check. That is where the problem came up - Yast failed to return. It did after about 8 hours (last night to this AM) return an error stating that it was looking for "$HOSTNAME=localhost". It appears the variable $HOSTNAME is not being carried correctly. I have selected about 10 to 15 "Update Source" sites, Yast seems to be happy with networking the URL. Hi I would like to see pan (823KB) and x11-tools (83KB) (needed by pan) added to the Gnome CD. And instead remove exiftool (1.2MB) which nothing depends on. [opensuse-factory] Alpha5 to Alpha7 update results

My Factory on one old PIII system lives on partition 19 on 1st/only PATA. It was installed from FTP at Alpha 5. Update today using YaST was uneventful, but I did notice things on reboot that don't seem good and/or right. 1-My root partition shows up in fstab and mount output twice: /dev/disk/by-label/hdx19factory on / LABEL=hdx19factory on / Is / being mounted twice a problem? 2-There's little rhyme or reason to the order of entries in fstab. HD partitions are (by traditional device names): hda19 (root by label) hda3 (DOS by-id) hda8 (windoz by devicename) hda9 (FAT by devicename) hda5 (/boot by-id) hda14 (/knoppix by-id) hda7 (SUSE 10.1 by-id) sda5 (Cooker /boot by-id) sda8 (Cooker /home by-id) sda7 (Cooker / by-id) hda15 (/home by-id) hda16 (/pub by-id) hda17 (/srv by-id) hda18 (/usr/local by-id) hda20 (/usr/src by-id) hda6 swap by-id sda5 (duplicate, except by devicename) hda19 (duplicate, by-id) sda9 (/disks/sda/extra by-id) 2-Most entries in fstab, plus root= in fstab, are of type by-id, even though valid and much shorter and more humanly manageable labels exist on all native partitions. 3-In addition to entries for no longer present kernels, the entries for Knoppix on hda14 and SUSE 10.1 on hda5 were also removed from /boot/grub/menu.lst. -- " It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible." [opensuse-factory] ndiswrapper still not on 1 CD install

Hello, during a discussion on IRC it appears that ndiswrapper is still lacking on 1 CD install. I really think its presence is mandatory because wireless network are today very widespread and are used as the only form of network in a lot of places. Having it on a repository is useless if you have no network to use it. I hope it is possible to add it in the next beta release. [opensuse-factory] Gnome 1 CD install changes

Hi My thoughts after the first look on the packages on Gnome CD. I would like to have nautilus-open-terminal included on the Gnome CD. Think the size of that is 72KB and as coolo said in the release notes I will even suggest a package to remove. Not sure what the package does but there is no dependencies on it on the Gnome CD and the descriptions talks about kinternet which is not on the Gnome CD. What I'm talkning about is smpppd which is 172 KB in size. That would mean that it would even be room for pam_thinkfinger (14KB) and libthinkfinger (30K). [opensuse-factory] LVM install on alpha7?

Hi. Anyone been able to install alpha 7 on LVM? Not sure if I hit bug #296495 as I used vmware workstation 6 to do the install or if there is something strange happening with LVM. The problem is the same that bug #278796 describes but for me it's /dev/system/root that don't appear and it's installation and no uppgrade. Did not have this problem with alpha 6 but that I installed on my laptop not in VMware workstation. Do you think this is a VMware installation problem or have you seen it "bare metal"? [opensuse-factory] State of including new repositories before installation

Hi, I remember that original discussions on the possibility of including a repository before installation was about giving the user a possibility of adding their own repository rather than choosing from a pre-selected list (though that is useful as well). Is there a plan, currently, to implement this (doesn't appear in alpha 7)? It would be pretty nice. Furthermore, most people seem to not notice the location of the new option (or if so, skip over it because of possible ambiguity). Beineri suggested "Include Internet repositories during installation" and that sounds a little clearer to me. How about it? I recently downloaded a bunch of kde4 rpms via yast2. It took awhile and when finished I thought I would try it. Question is "how"! I have not found anything like startkde4. I already was aware of the new kde4 location other than /opt. What is the trick? [opensuse-factory] Yast Meta Package Handler (ymp)

Hi, I have a question / suggestion for the ymp handler (thank Benji btw!) I think it could be of big advantage if the ymp file could contain sort of 'variables' inside, like at least the installes openSUSE Version. Just imagine the following tree (in fact, I have it like this): /repos/suse /10.0 /10.1 /10.2 /10.3 It would now be VERY handy for all users, if I could just offer one YMP, that contains a link to the repo and the handler replaces the $SUSEVER by the specific number. Of course, for the moment as only 10.3 will support it, it's not THAT interesting yet, but for sure this will come. There would be no need to offer a ymp per possible suse version I offer packages for. What is everybody's opinion about that? Doable? Drawbacks? [opensuse-factory] No ftp-Installation over local Network

Hi, I wanted to install openSUSE 10.3-Alpha7 from my local FTP/NFS-Server So i have to type in the IP-adress of the FTP/NFS-Server but it is not accepted by the install-program. The problem appears while Preparation - System Analysis - Initializing installation catalogs... When I type in the IP the error message is: A valid domain name consists of components seperated by dots. Each component contains letters, digits an hyphens. A hyphen may not start or end a component and the last component man not begin with a digit.
