Hello, rsync-ed factory this morning. When I start a new install, I get the following error message: Cannot access installation media (Medium Number 1.) Check that the server is accessible. When I choose 'Show details', I get: File /suse/setup/descr/control.xml not found on media: http://192.168.2.52/home/factory/ And that's right, there is no such file as /suse/setup/descr/control.xml , but there is a control.xml directly in / . Is it safe to simply ln -s it there? [opensuse-factory] OOo and spell checkers

I just found out about a Danish spell-checker project at http://stavekontrolden.dk I wanted to yell at them for not (seeming) to work with any larger upstream spell checker projects, but when I dug into the matter a little bit I got a little confused.. We use myspell for OOo, right? Wikipedia says "myspell is the former spell checker included with OOo" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MySpell Which is the current one then? Anyway these people at stavekontrolden.dk seem to have a better spellchecker than our myspell - at least their *.dic is 50% bigger (please, no jokes), 1,5 MB vs. 2,2 MB. It appears that they've contributed their data to OOo and that it's on the OOo dictionary ftp-server. What should be done to have this spell checker in the distribution? Nothing, we'll snatch it off of OOo servers? They should contribute it to some other upstream project? [opensuse-factory] Anyone interested in revamping the gnome-main-menu?

The main-menu has grown quite large meanwhile and contains lots of 'dead space' IMHO. My father, for example, wasn't able to locate the logout-button... Big Board is not the way to go (I hope). So, I'd thought the menu could perhaps use some slimming-down. It could be done by re-organizing the layout to provide better overview - while not compromising functionality too much. Unfortunately I have nothing to contribute but these thoughts and mockups: Mocked-up slimmer gnome-main-menu: http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/8469/cleangnomemainmenumockuzv9.png There's two ways to reduce the current menu's complexity: Omitting unneccessary items and arranging the remaing ones 'smarter'. 1. Removing unneccessary space-stealers - Lock screen (who needs this?) - whole-width search-field on top 2. Re-grouping items - Install software goes into the 'applications'-tab where users need it. - Control-center becomes a tab of its own, called 'System'. - Connection and HD-status go into the System-tab This leaves us with few, but important menu items on the right-hand bar: 'Help' and 'Logout'. As shrinking the 'Search'-menu has gained us space, these find a place in the top-bar of the menu, next to the search-field. My system has no hardware support for infrared. In a quest to recover space from unneeded programs, I attempted to remove lirc and recover 8.8M. YaST claims MPlayer needs this. [opensuse-factory] Changing /dev/hda to /dev/sda

New installs recognise IDE disks as /dev/sd, no problem. On this box 10.1 --> 10.2 --> 10.3Alpha3plus via factory updates, my disks come up as /dev/hd. Changed /etc/fstab from /dev/hda1 and /dev/hda2 to /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2, changed menu.lst likewise, but on reboot it can't see /dev/sda1, eventually dropping into a shell prompt. As of old rdev used to be able to change the root and swap devices to whatever you wanted for a kernel. It now tells me that /dev/sda1 doesn't exist. The pata_nv and libata modules are loaded.
