There is little to report status on this time, beside this: * WE'VE PUBLISHED OPENSUSE 10.3 - and it looks like a success all in all ( * Of course we've seen plenty of bugs that users report (they always do that :) * We released already quite some online updates and testing some more * We're still preparing promo DVD / live CDs - looking pretty good already * Oh, we've seen release parties at different locations. [opensuse-factory] Multi KDE Sessions and USB-disk

Hallo, if more than one KDE session is active and I connect an USB disk, it is allways assigned to the first KDE session, that is the session on "F7". If I'm on e.g. "F8" == localhost:1 I have no rights to read/write. If told to shut down "now", a proposition made in th help file, it shuts down imidiately, without a proper method. Apps that are open don't get saved . I suggest, zypper calls the normal shutdown procedure for this action, now it feels like a crash ;-) On the other hand, zypper handles the upgrade perfectly, no probs wse..nice! - -- Have a nice day, M9. [opensuse-factory] Defunct package management stack behind proxy with authentication

Hola openSUSE users! As those of you who are using openSUSE 10.3 in networks behind proxy requiring authentication with username & password might have already noticed, package management stack i.e. YaST and zypper does not work out-of-the-box in such environment (for more info see bug #330351 and bug #227511, also http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs:Most_Annoying_Bugs_10.3#openSUSE_10.3 links there) I have worked on the fix with Jano Kupec (zypper maintainer) and it's ready, but we are well aware of the fact that if we make it available as online update, those who are affected by this error will not be able to download it. There is an easy workaround and I'd like to use this mailing list to make it as much public as possible. Simply edit your /root/.curlrc file so that it looks like this: --proxy-user = "username:password" --proxy = "http://proxy.domain.com:8080" ( '=' characters are very important, thanks to Senthil Nachimuthu for pointing this out :-) ) Also, do not forget to escape any backslashes in username (which is another bug #331038, to be fixed together with this one) Please apply the above mentioned workaround(s), or download yast2-network 2.16.2 package from the Factory if you are affected by these bugs. [opensuse-factory] Bad experience with 10.3

Hi, I finally sit down to upgrade my 10.2 system to 10.3. I didn't have time to go and try the alpha/beta versions, but jumped directly to the GM. Well, the process took little bit more than 2 hours, but I become very upset after the first hour as my system became completely useless. I spent almost an hour to manually bring to a state where I can boot it. :( To make the story short here: upgrade of two packages failed (libzypp and pango) in the post-install phase, complaining about missing libraries. I didn't take a look to pango, but it turned out that libzypp fails because zypp-migrate-sources cannot find libssl.so.0.9.8 and libcrypto.so.0.9.8. But when I (manually) tried to install libopenssl0_9_8-0.9.8e-45, it said it is already installed. So I forced the installation of libopenssl0_9_8 and libzypp . Now at least yast can be started. Of course I got this errors during the upgrade process, but I couldn't do anything but either ignore the errors, hoping the install will still finish and can fix the problems after the reboot, or abort the install meaning that my system is for sure unusable. But this was not enough, installing the new kernel failed as well, because I got the error that there was an error creating the initrd (but the error dialog was EMPTY), and at this moment the installation aborted. I tried to reboot and select the menu item to repair a broken installation, but that gave me an error from the start that the installation failed. Tried this after I fixed the libzypp issue, got the same error. After I got this message I tried to run again the installation from the yast console mode (without rebooting), but I got the same error. I didn't try to reboot and start the installation over, I decided to fix the system somehow with the rescue option. And here I am, I fixed, but on reboot yast didn't came up as it usually does after a new install/upgrade, so I'm wonder how "finished" is my installation now... [opensuse-factory] Incomplete suseboot directory in 10.3?

Hello, after three years I was able to reanimate my old PowerBook. I would like to install openSUSE 10.3 on it, but the suseboot directory contains no initrd32 and no linux32.gz, like the 10.2 suseboot directory. [opensuse-factory] Firefox preview

My brother updated OpenSuSE 10.3 yesterday from 10.2. Installation told that his /boot partition is too small. We installed it anyhow and it seemed to work, but firefox print preview crashed the firefox. We assumed it was because of problems with update. Today I tried the preview on my own OpenSuSE 10.3, which is installed onto a clean system (I had had ext3 on 10.3 RC1, but I prefer xfs, so I formatted the disk). And yes, firefox crashes.
