Hi List,
i downloaded 10.1 Beta1 today and tried to install using a 10.0
Installation Server and using
SUSE-10.1-CD-OSS-i386-Beta1-mini.iso for install.
I triplechecked this iso, so md5sum is correct, and it gets burned
correct(K3B Checks succeeds), but i can not boot with this CD.
Can anyone tell me, whats wrong?
Is this one not to be used for, what the old boot.iso (e.g. in 10.0
inst-source/boot) was for?
Or is there something wrong with my system or the iso?
btw. size of this iso comes quite small to me, only 37 mb instead of
64 mb for 10.0.
Regards,
Christian

Hello all
Has anyone installed and used "apt" on the SUSE beta 10.1?
I installed the same two apt and apt-lib rpm packages that I
am using on SUSE 10.0:
apt-0.5.15cnc7-6
apt-libs-0.5.15cnc7-6
I used the "sources.list" from
http://ftp4.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/10.1-i386/examples/sources.list…
When I ran "apt-get update" I got the following error message:
apt-get: error while loading shared libraries: librpm-4.1.so: cannot
open shared object file: No such file or directory Running Apt update...

Checked to what the differences between rpm and librpm were on SUSE
10.0 et SUSE 10.1 BETA1. The results below show the version changes...

Good but not good enough as there are still have a few important
problems to solve before I apt will work as shown below...
apt-get dist-upgrade

You might want to run `apt-get --fix-broken install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
apt: Depends: librpm-4.1.so but it is not installable
Depends: librpmdb-4.1.so but it is not installable
Depends: librpmio-4.1.so but it is not installable
apt-libs: Depends: librpm-4.1.so but it is not installable
Depends: librpmdb-4.1.so but it is not installable
Depends: librpmio-4.1.so but it
One last thing...
I noticed that the the SUSE 10.1 BETA CDs contain version
"apt-libs-0.5.15cnc7-9" (I installed "cnc7-6") but there is no "apt"
package.
I know that smart is the way of the future but I still like using the
two of them.
All comments welcome

I want to add Java and flash support to my 10.1 build but I don't know where
to find apt softrware. Any help on where to find the apt software is much
appreciated.
Thanks,
Sean
Hello, I am back again. :-)
All things below (exept for the Matrox/sax 2 problem) have been entererd
in Bugzilla. I will try to figure out a bit more before I do that.
I have just tried installing 10.1B1 a few times and these are some of my
remarks. Some very minor, some major.
1) makeSUSEdvd works. Good. :-)
2) Explanation of KDE and Gnome could be better. Now beginners could
become confused. Perhaps a line like "If in doubt select Gnome" could be
added. [minor]
3) Keyboard selection is not very obvious. A beginner might be fearfull to
go to Expert mode, just so he can selct his Belgian keyboard. (I choose
Belgian, because it is not a language, so setting it through there won't
work) [medium]
4) It would be nice to have some sound when the machine reboots. That way
you do not have to pay constand attention how far it is. Some people also
use just one monitor/keybord and this way they can still work on the other
PC. [minor]
5) Test connection (wich does not work, I know) tells me the connection
will be done via eth-is-00:... instead of just eth0. If I have more then
one card, this can become confusing. [medium]
6) When a user is made, the defaults to recieve system mail and auto login
should be reversed. This has been discussed before. [medium]
7) My Wintv-PVR card is nicely recognised, yet gives an error 'Cannot
start WinTC-PVR 350' [medium]
8) When I see the login for the first time, I am unable to do
[CTRL][ALT][F1] to get to CLI. [Major]
9) .vimrc would be nice to have as a default to have colours. [minor]
10) Root on a terminal would be nice to have a different color as text
(PS1 and such) [minor]
11) Although the system perfectly recognises my Matrox G550, it fails to
set the dualscreen correctly (or partially correctly). I will start
another thread about this, because more is going on.

I suggest a screen-shot of the default desktop of each, with the Launch menu
open.

openSUSE is for home-use, so autologin by default is fine.

Yes, a coloured prompt would be really nice.
Hello
How does one configure SuSEfirewall2 on the new SUSE Linux 10.1 Beta1 to
run/start "at boot".
When I try to enable the service through yast2 firewall I get the
following message:
Cannot enable service 'SuSEfirewall2_init'
TIA

I am trying to download SUSE 10.factory. The command line to do that from OpenSUSE is:
drpmsync drpmsync.opensuse.org:8888/Factory /my/directory
But what is is for e.g.:
kernel.org
or
TU-Chemnitz.de
I'd appreciate any help!
FMF
Hello,
I wanted to install factory, but there are no software selections available. Could you make some available? Thanks, bye,
