Hostname not set correctly w/ Traditional Method (networking)

I did a beta4 network installation (ftp). No DHCP server, I have specified the IP with hostip=192..../24 I have set the hostname and the installation completed as usual. But after booting the hostname was "192". Setting it again with YaST fixed it. Does anyone know if this is already in bugzilla? I searched, but still not sure. Wouldn't want to file a dupe.

Serious concerns about font rendering regression

Hi, since 10.0, I noticed a regression with the font rendering quality, especially the kerning is degraded, compared to 9.3. The situation persists with 10.1 (or even got worser). I already filed a report against 10.0: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=133086 only to realize, that I'm soliloquizing. What I've learned from trying to fix the problem myself is that fontconfig and possibly qt3 uses an unofficial API from treetype2 to render stuff, and had a hard time to adjust freetype2 cvs to provide the hooks. Unfortunately, I suffered from some crashes using it (could be unrelated), but not enough time to examine the reasons, thus reverted my local changes that time. For what is worth it, I'm using the "Bitstream Vera Sans" truetype font for all sans serif uses. Getting back on topic, I hadn't compared 10.0 with 10.1, but 9.3 with 10.1, and besides a much worser kerning, bold glyphs are notedly less detailed (zugelaufen). Does nobody noticed this regression and is concerned, too? It could be, that I'm picky in this respect, but font rendering quality is a very important factor in user experience and acceptance. Pete

All Kernel are installed ?

Hello, is this a known Bug ? On my new installation, all three Kernels from the x86 Tree are installed ? Now I have on a old single CPU (no HT) a smp Kernel installed ?? Ralink rt2500 not autodetected

Ralink rt2500 is not autodetected on oss beta4. I tried to compile rt2500 drivers and it compiles well but the rt2500 module can't be loaded. Hi, I want to reply to a message which was sent to list when I wasn't subscriped to it. So I send my reply now as a new message, I hope it will not break the thread structure to much. Sorry! I'm very pleased for explanation of details in the mail from s.schmidt(a)avm.de about the closed-source driver problem. I can understand that a leading company like AVM can't open source its intellectual property and know-how. I understand that its easier und more flexible to do some functionality in software than in hardware. But what about putting this algorythms in the upgradeable firmware of the devices? Ok, I can understand that current devices are not prepared for doing this, but could this be a solution for future products? Things like fax or modem emulation could be done in the binary firmware of the device an the drivers could be kept simple an open source. You have to open no know-how to public or competitors because it will stay closed in the device's firmware. I'm currently not affected by the disscussion because although am using ISDN as primary net-access, I'm using a Bluefritz USB in combination with Bluefritz AP-X that seemes to work with open-source drivers. All ISDN-related things seemed to be done by firmware and I think this could be a solution for other devices. I've to clearify that I'm not a programmer, hardware designer or ISDN-expert (so I may be completely wrong), I'm just a very pleased user of AVM's devices who's hoping that a solution will be found. Installation Sources not remembered

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=152085 Having a problem adding additional repositories, I can enter them, but upon closing the dialog with Finish, they seem to be automatically deleted (opening Installation Sources a second time shows the list is empty, including no entry for the CD's). Trying to enter the sources again causes the dialog to crash. Restarting X seems to fix this problem, but I still can't get the sources to stay. Using the Software Manager only shows installed packages, it is not possible to add additional packages because all the sources have been deleted. Dave

nVidia drivers for Beta 4

Are there any nVidia drivers available in the new KPM format, or do I need to download the official old-style drivers from the nVidia website? It looks like the OSS drivers still can't cope with a dual-head configuration. Dave

Using Atheros driver in Beta3/Beta4

For those have Atheros-based wireless cards and can't use them because the nongpl modules have been removed in Beta3/Beta4, here are some instructions to easily get them working: 1. Go to the madwifi site and download the latest driver: http://snapshots.madwifi.org/madwifi-ng-current.tar.gz 2. Create a SUSE build script from: http://madwifi.org/wiki/UserDocs/Distro/SuSE 3. Install the sharutils-4.6-2 (CD-3) and kernel-source (CD-5) RPMs. 4. Unpack the madwifi drivers, copy the build script into that directory, and execute. 5. Use NetworkManager or the ifup scipts to manage your wireless card. It takes all of 5 minutes to accomplish! Kirk Coombs

installation_sources is not installed anymore as default. This is most likely because yast2-packagemanager is not there anymore. Is there anything that replaces installation_sources AND is installed as default AND can be used in scripts? If possible something that is available in pre-10.1 as well as default. houghi -- Nutze die zeit. Sie ist das Kostbarste was wir haben, denn es ist unwiederbringliche Lebenszeit.
