Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers, This week is all in the spirit of some data center moves. OBS had been announced to have fewer worker powers and openQA is also in read-only mode, busy moving to a new home. This of course has some effect on the number of Tumbleweed snapshots: we won’t be publishing snapshots that cannot go through openQA. For this reason, we have only published 4 snapshots this week (0714, 0716, 0717, and 0718). The most relevant changes contained in these snapshots are: * Mozilla Firefox 1150.2 * audit 3.1.1 * Linux kernel 6.4.3 (with full lockdown enabled) * Libvirt 9.5.0 * Freetype2 2.13.1 * krb5 1.21.1 * Poppler 23.07.0 Staging projects started getting crowded – mostly due to openQA being down and no tests being executed at the moment. The list of staged changes includes: * systemd 253.7 * Rust 1.71 * Meson 1.2.0: enabled Python cache builds by default, resulting in a bunch of files section not matching anymore * Linux kernel 6.4.4 * PHP 8.2.8 * Samba 4.18.5 * GCC 13.2 Cheers, Dominique

Leap 15.6 and SLES 15 SP6 Early Feature submit deadline is tomorrow

Hello openSUSE! I'd like to ask you to report any feature or update requests against SLES packages-part of openSUSE Leap in https://code.opensuse.org/leap/features/issues until end of business tomorrow. I'll review them before end of the day, and will review them and turn them into jiras. You can of course create them after the deadline too, however, they could be potentially treated as late features, which adds extra approval chain. I have seen only few cases when a sane request was rejected, and that was mostly due to ABI breakage concerns. Planning for the change ahead gives you the best chance to get it in. Security update missing for ghostscript CVE-2023-36664

Hi, I am sure most of you have recently learned about critical security issues in ghostscript. I am surprised to not find any OpenSUSE updates addressing this issue, nor any announcements on the openSUSE Security Announce mailing list. Am I missing something, or is CVE-2023-36664 currently unaddressed? Best regards Christian

Hello, leaving feedback. 1 - In the settings, in the performance tab in the Chromium browser, the battery saving option at 20% 50% etc, is not available. I use the chromium that opensuse makes available in discover. 2 - In firefox, after adding gpu acceleration for intel, it improved 4k. Videos at 4k60fps have few crashes, usually in areas with a lot of information on the screen. But with playback speed at 2x, it freezes a lot. Videos at 8k60fps also freeze at normal speed. 3 - If any video in 240p or 4k60fps is open, and pressing and holding the volume button, it freezes in the path, the video also freezes. Also, if it is at maximum or zero, hold the volume up or down button for a while. 4 - I left it enabled in the settings, the option for the volume to reach 150%, here the audio is very low, usually it has to be above 100%, at 112% on average, to compensate. 5 - The touchpad disable button is not being recognized in the operating system. In the keyboard settings, the 105-key keyboard is selected. 6 - In games on steam, it has fps losses, when compared to windows 11. In general, it is an average of 4 to 6 fps, and there are games where the difference is 30 fps. Steam play, experimental proton, background enabled vulkan shaders. I use steam that opensuse makes available on discover. Also wanted to suggest, to alleviate the use of system resources on the pc. Also increase the laptop's battery duration, to reach 10 hours if possible. Lower the overall temperature of the pc a little. Also improve the auto adjustment of the system in the image area, to be 100% srgb. Also an improvement in hardware acceleration, audio, video, gpu etc. and sound/audio with balanced equalization, with higher quality, reaching 384000hz automatically, if the device supports it 👍😄 I use a base cooler from c3tech, nbc 50v2, usb 5v, with 2 coolers. Thermal paste and pc maintenance up to date. The pc does not have a cooler, it came from the factory that way. Opensuse tumbleweed, Kde plasma with wayland Btrfs Thanks in advance, 👍😄

Build of kernel with `make binrpm-pkg` fails

(Yes, I seem to be spamming this list. If it's any excuse, please know that I spend 24/48/more hours trying to solve each problem on my own before asking for help here.) I'm trying to build the current openSUSE kernel. This isn't something I want to be spending time on, but for the reasons why, see https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/factory@lists.opensuse.org/thread/… I've done the following: ``` $ git clone https://github.com/openSUSE/kernel $ cp -p /boot/config-6.3.9-1.g0df701d-default .config $ make olddefconfig $ make menuconfig ``` The last ("menuconfig") is required to make some changes to fix: ``` make[2]: *** No rule to make target '.kernel_signing_key.pem', needed by 'certs/signing_key.x509'. That script creates many directories, but not the missing one in the error message above. I've tried to hack in some workarounds, but all fail. It doesn't do any good to edit the /var/tmp/rmp-tmp.<hash> file because a new one is created on the next run of `make binrpm-pkg`. Likewise, creating the missing directory doesn't help because the script first cleans up the previous run with `rm -rf /usr/local/home/mark/rpmbuild/BUILDROOT/..." before recreating that whole directory tree, and that wipes out the hack-in subdirectory. So ... the questions (for anyone who has experience building kernels and would be willing to offer help): - Is there any reason why the "binrpm" target doesn't work or shouldn't be used? It seems (and is documented online) to be a better alternative to `make install` because it can't break the running system (it can be done as a non-root user and the resulting RPM later installed). - Is this a bug either in `rpmbuild` or the makefile's invocation of it? - Is doing `make rpm-pkg` (which is advertised to make two RPMs, one binary and one source) necessary instead? I've tried, and it errors with yet more problems which I'm trying to address, but predict that once it makes the source RPM it will break on the binary (the only thing I really want) with the same failure I'm already seeing. - Is doing `make module_install` followed by `make install` what everyone uses, and I'm going down some untested and unsupported path? As always, thanks for any advice or suggestions (including, I suppose, "If you don't know how to build the kernel you shouldn't be doing it.")

Hi, I am Poplar. I recommend replacing the fcitx package of the openSUSE ISO file with fcitx5. The development of fcitx(fcitx4) has been discontinued. Replacing the old fcitx version allows new openSUSE users to experience the latest generation of fcitx input method and various improvements immediately after installing the system.
