RFC: turn off ppc32 and ppc64 big endian builds on openSUSE:Factory:PowerPC

Hi all, recently I was made aware that openSUSE:Factory:PowerPC is quite a large distribution as it is building for ppc 32bit, ppc64 big endian and ppc64 little endian. in OpenQA as far as I know we are only testing the ppc64 little endian builds. Given the upcoming data center move and the lack of testing, are there any concerns about turning off the builds for ppc 32bit and ppc64 big endian? It would reduce build power needs as well as disk storage /publishing bandwidth which is shared with other distributions and architectures and becomes a problem because of PowerPC being exceptionally large. Packages in OBS not configured for Factory

I have a newbie question about the decision about what targets a package in OBS are built for. I mean about the logic behind the choice of which to enable. I quite often find that packages are enabled for only 15.2, or only Tumblwweed. But it is quite common that the packages are not enabled for all current openSUSE/SUSE releases. For exampl (not a complaints against this ptroject! I just happen to be following the status of the tensorflow2 and it took me here as a unresolvable package): https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/devel%3Alanguages%3Apython/python-g… Why would a project in devel:languages:python not have Factory enabled? I know that in user's own builds, them might unfortunately do this. But in a place like devel:languages:python, I would have thought the all current openSUSE/SUSE targets would generally be enabled. If it is a 'I don't have time' thing, then I'm okay with that. No problem. I am curious if it is something else that I have just not cottoned on to. -- Roger Oberholtzer

New Laptop

Hello, I wanted to ask openSUSE to add the drivers of my new laptop in the distribution, to get full performance, last longer battery etc I also wanted to suggest to OpenSUSE, to add better general support in hardware acceleration, audio, GPU, av1, vp9, avc, etc Also OpenSUSE adds by default vm.max_map_count 2147483642 (MAX_INT – 5), for proton steam play vulkan to flow better, games with huge maps to flow better, fps increase etc. And better Steam support from snap packages, official steam too 👍👍😄 Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15ITL6 Intel Core i3 1115g4 (4) 4100GHz Intel Tiger Lake-LP GT2 (UHD Graphics G4) 1920x1080p 60Hz KDE Plasma Wayland PTBR UTF8 ABNT2 with numeric keypad OpenSUSE Tumbleweed 👍👍😄

I have 2 servers running in that mode. My logs how I did set that up are not 100% complete so I can only give hints. Core component is the package dracut-sshd For documentation see: https://github.com/gsauthof/dracut-sshd It shows you several options how to setup your remote server. In general either use early networkd or setup your network in the initrd command line. Further documentation about network configuration within initrd can be found at the "other Linux" site: https://www.redhat.com/sysadmin/network-confi-initrd Would be then similar to: in `/etc/default/grub` modify `GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX` to include network configs: E.g. You may type systemd-tty-ask-password-agent (or press "arrow up") to unlock your disks. This shell will terminate automatically a few seconds after the unlocking process has succeeded and when the boot proceeds. If you do so you will be prompted for the password of one encrypted disk, more if they have different ones. Grub will decrypt now the disks the same way if you would have entered the passwords sitting at the console.

Are these snapshot release announcements also posted anywhere on the web? It appears to me one or more of them may have been lost (was the list down for a couple days?). The last previous to this I received or see in the list archives was 20230724, though I got 20230728 the other day doing a zypper dup.

pipewire-alsa requires removal of alsa-plugins-pulse

When performing a "zypper dup" pipewire-alsa requires removal of alsa-plugins- pulse, but this package is required by quite a lot of other packages. How to solve this? -- fr.gr. member openSUSE Freek de Kruijf

Hi, Good news: after suffering from issues with python310, I finally managed to find the two required patches https://www.reddit.com/r/reproduciblebuilds/comments/1573d76/reproducible_p… and mcepl (our python packager) sent them towards Factory and SLE. I also worked with fstrba to make nice progress on xmvn UUIDs https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1162112 Meanwhile, the fix to ghc-rpm-macros is still waiting to be merged. https://github.com/opensuse-haskell/ghc-rpm-macros/pull/1 Add to that the doxygen toolchain fix https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/1099185 Once all four fixes above reached Factory, this should fix over half of the remaining issues.
