Dear Package maintainers and hackers.
Below package(s) in openSUSE:Factory have had problems for at
least 4 weeks. We tried to send out notifications to the
configured bugowner/maintainers of the package(s), but so far no
fix has been submitted. This probably means that the
maintainer/bugowner did not yet find the time to look into the
matter and he/she would certainly appreciate help to get this
sorted.
- qtile: Fails to build
Unless somebody is stepping up and submitting fixes, the listed
package(s) are going to be removed from openSUSE:Factory.
Kind regards,
DimStar / Dominique Leuenberger <dimstar(a)opensuse.org>

backend
* portability and compilation fixes
* verity: Fix possible hash offset setting overflow.
* bitlk: Fix use of startup BEK key on big-endian platforms.
* Do not initiate encryption (reencryption command) when the
header and data devices are the same. If data device reduction
is not requsted, this leads to data corruption since LUKS
metadata was written over the data device.
* Fix possible memory leak if crypt_load() fails.
* Always use passphrases with a minimal 8 chars length for
benchmarking, as used in some implementation of FIPS mode

==== libcap ====
Version update (2.66 -> 2.67)
Subpackages: libcap2 libcap2-32bit
- update to 2.67:
* Replace use of fgrep with grep -F (POSIX grep flags preferred by
GNU grep) - patch from David Seifert.
* Added SPDX identifiers to License file(s). Hopefully this will
help the various robots out there correctly identify the
longstanding licenses for libcap and friends. (Bug: 216609
reported by Günther Noack)
* Started down the rabbit hole of trying to address (Bug: 216610
reported by Günther Noack on behalf of Michael Stapelberg)
* The basic issue is how to link C code with Go psx without using
CGo. This is all a low level hackery. If you are interested,
browse the source.
* Correct for bad whatis entries in man pages (this was throwing a
Debian build test, detail)
* Also reviewed man pages and addressed cross linkage issues (Bug:
* Cleaned up some README.md files (made a github mirror now just so
I can automatically render them).
* Changed meaning of DYNAMIC=no builds.
This now builds everything with static linking except for libc.
The reason for this exception is explained in the commit message.
* Inserted demonstration exploit code in capso.so to support
article.
==== libdrm ====
Subpackages: libdrm2 libdrm_amdgpu1 libdrm_intel1 libdrm_nouveau2 libdrm_radeon1
- Adjust the n_libdrm-drop-valgrind* patches accordingly
==== libguestfs ====
Version update (1.48.6 -> 1.50.0)
Subpackages: libguestfs-xfs libguestfs0
- Update to version 1.50.0
* https://libguestfs.org/guestfs-release-notes-1.50.1.html
* Inspection
When listing the packages in RPM-based guests, the inspection
API no longer checks package signatures. This is because the
newer librpm used by libguestfs does not understand signatures
stored in older guests, such as SHA1 used by RHEL 6 (thanks
Panu Matilainen).
"guestfs_inspect_get_hostname" in guestfs(3) can now handle
/etc/hostname files containing comments (thanks Dawid Zamirski).
"guestfs_file_architecture" in guestfs(3) can now parse files
using zstd compression.
"guestfs_inspect_get_osinfo" in guestfs(3) now returns the
correct osinfo field for Windows 11. However because of
decisions made by Microsoft, these guests still return product
name and other strings identifying as Windows 10 (thanks Yaakov
Selkowitz, Yongkui Guo).
* New APIs
"guestfs_device_name" in guestfs(3) is a new API to read the
device name associated with a drive, for example calling this
with 0 will return /dev/sda.
"guestfs_clevis_luks_unlock" in guestfs(3) is a new API for
unlocking disks using the Clevis/Tang network-based full disk
encryption scheme. Furthermore implement this in guestfish and
guestmount (Laszlo Ersek).
"guestfs_inspect_get_build_id" in guestfs(3) is a new API for
reading the build ID from some Linux and Windows guests. It is
not widely used on Linux, but for Windows it is vital for
identifying Windows 11.
* Other API changes
In the "guestfs_add_drive" in guestfs(3) API, the name and
iface fields are not used. name has not been used since around
2017, but the documentation has only just been updated to reflect
this. iface was never allowed for the libvirt backend and
didn't work reliably with the direct backend (Laszlo Ersek).
"guestfs_readdir" in guestfs(3) is no longer limited to the
maximum message size but can read a directory of any size
(Laszlo Ersek).
* Numerous build changes, internal improvements, and bug fixes
Note that the Augeas bindings for libguestfs are no longer
bundled with libguestfs and must be built separately.
==== libzypp ====
Version update (17.31.7 -> 17.31.8)
- ProgressData: enforce reporting the INIT||END state
(bsc#1206949)
- ps: fix service detection on newer Tumbleweed systems
(bsc#1205636)
- version 17.31.8 (22)
==== openssl-1_1 ====
Version update (1.1.1s -> 1.1.1t)
Subpackages: libopenssl1_1 libopenssl1_1-hmac
- Update to 1.1.1t:
* Fixed X.400 address type confusion in X.509 GeneralName.
There is a type confusion vulnerability relating to X.400 address processing
inside an X.509 GeneralName. X.400 addresses were parsed as an ASN1_STRING
but subsequently interpreted by GENERAL_NAME_cmp as an ASN1_TYPE. This
vulnerability may allow an attacker who can provide a certificate chain and
CRL (neither of which need have a valid signature) to pass arbitrary
pointers to a memcmp call, creating a possible read primitive, subject to
some constraints. Refer to the advisory for more information. Thanks to
David Benjamin for discovering this issue. [bsc#1207533, CVE-2023-0286]
This issue has been fixed by changing the public header file definition of
GENERAL_NAME so that x400Address reflects the implementation. It was not
possible for any existing application to successfully use the existing
definition; however, if any application references the x400Address field
(e.g. in dead code), note that the type of this field has changed. There is
no ABI change.
* Fixed Use-after-free following BIO_new_NDEF.
The public API function BIO_new_NDEF is a helper function used for
streaming ASN.1 data via a BIO. It is primarily used internally to OpenSSL
to support the SMIME, CMS and PKCS7 streaming capabilities, but may also
be called directly by end user applications.
The function receives a BIO from the caller, prepends a new BIO_f_asn1
filter BIO onto the front of it to form a BIO chain, and then returns
the new head of the BIO chain to the caller. Under certain conditions,
for example if a CMS recipient public key is invalid, the new filter BIO
is freed and the function returns a NULL result indicating a failure.
However, in this case, the BIO chain is not properly cleaned up and the
BIO passed by the caller still retains internal pointers to the previously
freed filter BIO. If the caller then goes on to call BIO_pop() on the BIO
then a use-after-free will occur. This will most likely result in a crash.
[bsc#1207536, CVE-2023-0215]
* Fixed Double free after calling PEM_read_bio_ex.
The function PEM_read_bio_ex() reads a PEM file from a BIO and parses and
decodes the "name" (e.g. "CERTIFICATE"), any header data and the payload
data. If the function succeeds then the "name_out", "header" and "data"
arguments are populated with pointers to buffers containing the relevant
decoded data. The caller is responsible for freeing those buffers. It is
possible to construct a PEM file that results in 0 bytes of payload data.
In this case PEM_read_bio_ex() will return a failure code but will populate
the header argument with a pointer to a buffer that has already been freed.
If the caller also frees this buffer then a double free will occur. This
will most likely lead to a crash.
The functions PEM_read_bio() and PEM_read() are simple wrappers around
PEM_read_bio_ex() and therefore these functions are also directly affected.
These functions are also called indirectly by a number of other OpenSSL
functions including PEM_X509_INFO_read_bio_ex() and
SSL_CTX_use_serverinfo_file() which are also vulnerable. Some OpenSSL
internal uses of these functions are not vulnerable because the caller does
not free the header argument if PEM_read_bio_ex() returns a failure code.
[bsc#1207538, CVE-2022-4450]
[Kurt Roeckx, Matt Caswell]
* Fixed Timing Oracle in RSA Decryption.
A timing based side channel exists in the OpenSSL RSA Decryption
implementation which could be sufficient to recover a plaintext across
a network in a Bleichenbacher style attack. To achieve a successful
decryption an attacker would have to be able to send a very large number
of trial messages for decryption. The vulnerability affects all RSA padding
modes: PKCS#1 v1.5, RSA-OEAP and RSASVE.

Hi folks,
We will switch the openSUSE Tumbleweed signing key that signs the
repositories and RPMs from 2048bit RSA key to a 4096bit RSA key early
next week.
They key is already delivered for several months and in your systems.
rpm -ql openSUSE-build-key

uid openSUSE Project Signing Key <opensuse(a)opensuse.org>
and should be in trusted RPM keyring already:
rpm -qi gpg-pubkey-29b700a4-62b07e22

This hackweek a group of us have been looking at using the ALP binaries
provided by SUSE to create a functional successor to openSUSE Leap.
**Goals:**
* Creating and maintaining it should be manageable by a small number
of community volunteer maintainers,
but at the same time should be scalable to grow with additional
contributors.
* It should be possible for community members to easily contribute
additions in their preferred form whether
rpm, container or something else.
* Use ALP Sources wherever possible (In some cases this may require
building them in a different format).
* Make it possible to support smaller desktops including supporting
X11, Wayland and xwayland.
* Support upgrading systems from Leap 15.5 in most cases. This will
likely mean alongside supporting
transactional updates so that SUSE:ALP -> openSUSE:ALP is possible,
it also needs to be possible to still
support traditional RW filesystems with zypper up and dup.
* Support running ALP containerised workloads but aim to avoid using
containers in core operating system
components.
* Provide a lightweight environment for embedded usecases including
Raspberry Pi's.
To test that these goals are realistic, our main goal for this hackweek
was to get Xfce running on a combination of ALP and backports packages.
It seemed like a good choice as the package set is small enough to be
handled by a couple of people and it's popular in the openSUSE
community. We have made good progress and have achieved a lot, but more
on that later.
**Design:**
The basic concept is to follow what we have done with Leap and create a
"Backports" repository containing community packages from Tumbleweed to
fill the gaps, one of the differences here is SUSE's repos for SLE
contain around 10,000 packages while ALP contains around 2,000, despite
this, we only had to add around another 350 packages to reach our
initial goals. This includes yast and many gnome build dependencies that
hopefully we will be able to take from ALP Sources once they are there.
But even at this number it is probably manageable for a small team
especially while the packages are present in Tumbleweed.
Once we had the packages we needed, we could use our existing tooling
such as kiwi to create images for testing including livecds. The biggest
benefit to SUSE's Factory first policy is with the right packages
everything that works in Tumbleweed also works here. Hopefully once we
know how SUSE plans to build their container images, we will also be
able to use the same approach partnered with the backports repo to build
openSUSE community images if people are interested in maintaining them.
We didn't investigate that this hackweek though.
Lubos also spent a significant portion of his hackweek working with
d-installer to see if it is currently suitable for working with the
additional features that we require.
**Design Limitations:**
While it is possible to work around many of ALP's restrictions via
simply building images differently, some other design decisions are hard
to avoid due to the fact ALP binaries are built without certain features
such as AppArmor and NIS.
**Results:**
Firstly we have a backports repository here[1] containing all the
additional packages we required so far, we also have a wiki page
documenting why many of these packages are required [2].
Secondly we built several KVM Images available for downloading and
testing [3], that include Xfce, Enlightenment and a generic console
environment. These are very limited images - really only designed as a
proof of concept, so beyond very basic functionalities and basic desktop
options, don't expect too much.
Third we built live cds also for testing and available to download [4].
Initially we worked on Xfce and Enlightenment due to my personal
interest but at that point Valentin discovered that we were only about
30 packages away from a usable Gnome system and decided to give it a
shot. However, what Gnome ends up looking like in the future will depend
a fair bit on what SUSE does with it for their ALP products. We also
have a D-Installer image availiable as a proof of concept for installation.
**Unanswered Questions:**
* Desktop apps - SUSE's ALP will likely use Flatpaks, if these are
built on OBS, it may be possible to build rpm
versions from the same source. It is also likely that some openSUSE
contributors will prefer to ship their
applications as rpms. So Ideally we want to support both.
* Maintenance / Release schedule - Ideally during the year at
scheduled periods, we will bundle up changes
from SUSE's ALP and the community and bundle them into some form of
point release. I.e. it seems likely that
SUSE will release the python3.11 stack at a point when the
python3.10 stack is still supported so it would be
ideal to pick one point to do regular migrations rather then them
happening at random times. Currently we
still don't have enough detail in this area to really assess what
will be possible though.
* There is a chance that SUSE will use less repositories than in
the past and we may need to add repository- based filtering to zypper /
yast so that they only show still supported packages for install. But
again we are
very much waiting for more detail here.
**What Next:**
We now know that this concept A works and B would be maintainable, so if
there is broad community interest in this concept, the next step would
be probably after the Leap 15.5 release, creating a backports package
repo similar to the way the Leap ones have existed with bots etc. Then
getting maintainers to contribute any other packages they wish to
maintain. At the same time, setting up image building and openqa tests.
In the meantime the packages in the backports repo under my namespace
are mostly linked from Factory (i'll fix the rest) so i'll keep an eye
on them and check they stay building. If you maintain a package and are
interested in the list of dependencies, you'd also need to maintain to
get it working, let me know and I can link it in from Factory. However,
be aware that significant parts of the perl, python and ruby language
stacks etc aren't packaged yet. Also in the spirit of lighter desktops
i'd like to get sway packaged as well as it will give a good indication
of whats needed for the other smaller wayland desktops.
The name is something else to consider, should we just use Leap for the
open source builds of SUSEs ALP products, should we do something else
entirely? Given that SUSE is using names of alps as release code names I
chose to do something similar but different, This project is meant to be
less extreme then a trip up into the alps, more like a relaxing picnic
or stroll through the hills so this prototypes codename is Grassy Knoll
because it sounds cool and maybe I've been playing too much dwarf
fortress. Either way, it may not be the best name for the project long term.
**FAQ:**
* Why didn't we look at KDE? - KDE has a much larger packet set, Also
part of my initial goal was to create
something small enough that if I needed to maintain it with a
couple of people mostly for our own personal
usecases we'd be able to. KDE doesn't fit within that scope,
however from the testing we have done this week
if someone wanted to maintain KDE, it shouldn't require too many
changes from the packages in Tumbleweed
and may provide a good way to do KDE going forward with ALP but
i'll leave that decision with the KDE
Maintainers
Finally a massive thanks to the other members of this hackweek team:
Maurizio Galli, Lubos Kocman and Valentin Lefebvre. They took a concept
I had in my head and helped transform it into a functioning prototype.
Also a big thanks to Fabian Vogt for answering all my "why won't kiwi
build this"-questions.
If you have questions thoughts or suggestions feel free to reach out to
us via email or in the openSUSE-ALP channels on Discord / IRC / Matrix.
we will also work on getting this information into the wiki.

Attempting open of
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/multimedia:/libs:/cisco-openh264/ to
pluck the .repo file produces a strange error, apparently due to its secrecy. It's
so secret, I can't figure out how to add the repo to an existing TW installation.
Guessing didn't work, with a permission denied error:

What package is responsible for the base repo set anyway? "file

https://en.opensuse.org/OpenH264, I'm missing it.

About whether the iso image file for the next major release, openSUSE Leap 16, can be added back to the GCC compiler
by 蒋明强 15 Feb '23
by 蒋明强 15 Feb '23
15 Feb '23
Regarding whether the GCC compiler can be added back to the iso image file of the next major release openSUSE Leap 16, it can be installed and used without a network as in the previous 42.1 version.
Because usually, everyone who uses Linux distributions is used to learn to program, hoping to have an out-of-the-box environment. Scholars who are new to Linux see the command line gcc -o xxx.c in C language textbooks, do not know zypper, do not know how to switch sources, so they have to endure very slow download speeds, so I hope it has an environment for writing C by default.

## Leap
Leap 15.5 Build399.1 looks good. I believe that we can meet the current
deadline and have Beta build on Friday.
With only exception on ppc64le
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1208196 I take ppc64le in
Leap as the best effort basis.
Leap Micro 5.4 - I need to finalized build/release setup and have Alpha
rather soon. SLEM is proceeding to Beta we're usually one milestone
behind.
Max: media were released to the :ToTest, but why we it isn't moved to
openQA, because a config is missing in
https://github.com/os-autoinst/openqa-trigger-from-obs (or might just
need access to ariel.o.o and create an directory for Leap Micro 5.4),
the jobgroup has been created though.

mod-check doesn't really 'check' as much as planned at the moment,
instead going way further and effectively reinstalling MicroOS Desktop
(GNOME) in place, making that new snapshot the new boot target. This
will be awesome for any user who wants to 'freshen' up an otherwise
heavily altered MicroOS Desktop, or when major Tumbleweed/MicroOS
changes occur that otherwise cant be easily modeled in patterns. It
also potentially could be a method of migrating non-transactional
systems to a transactional one. Heavy testing/development underway..and
possibly a rename if mod-check doesn't start actually -checking stuff
soon.
2. YaST-less installation media with FDE by default
Bugs still WIP
osinfo-db still doesn't recognise MicroOS as a seperate distribution -
debates with upstream ongoing
## Max
Leap 15.5
* The last 15.5 Alpha build has been published
* We have seen util-linux-lang uninstallable issue on openqa(on the
last Alpha build) which is power only, it seem to be an bad rpm
problem, since power is a low prio for Leap, plus other arch's
testresults is pretty well, we ignores this power only issue.
* Updated the meta package to Beta
* The last auto-submitter round towards Factory to Backports has been
triggered, will no longer trigger it since we're entering the Beta
pharse
* After recheck the KDE staging problem, it was depend on the pending
updates in SLE15-SP5
* Build stats in Backports(x86_64): 10 unresolvables, 51 fails(last
week: 8 unresolvables, 59 fails)
## Guillaume - Arm
Not available
Tumbleweed:
* Blocked due to a broken binutils patch for armv7. Will be
unblocked by https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/1060656
* WiFi works again on RPi3/4 (and other systems):
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1206697
* Pointer Authentication issue, seen in zypper has been fixed:

- New opengpu driver also available in OBS:
https://build.opensuse.org/project/monitor/X11:Drivers:Video
lkocman to check on who is the aarch64 + nvidia effort blocked on. I
recall that there was a chosen point of contact.
Leap:
* 15.5 aarch64: covered by Leap section above
* 15.5 armv7: no blocker
ALP:
* No aarch64 specific issues
WSL:
* Works with x86 emulator since appx installer is x86-64, but this
is not really an issue since arm64 Win11 includes x86 emulator by
default.
Steps documented on the wiki to install the appx from download.o.o:

* Further x86_64-v3 glibc hwcaps enablement in Factory, still missing
the "trigger pattern" submisssion:
https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/1064211
* x86_64-v3 enablement on some packages failed due to baselibs
conflicts over -static packages which
need further updates
* out for the last ~ 10 days, no other news worth sharing
Biggest speedup can be observed by switching zlib to zlib-ng, so
looked into fixing the build failures caused by switching to zlibo-ng-
compat
## Wolfgang (Package Hub), Scott Bahling
No News.
lkocman: we'll need to make a call whether our copy && update on
request basis for PackageHUB for 15 SP6/7 would be sufficient or not.
PM would like to see at least 15 SP6 as that is a feature release, but
it's not being "demanded". Please expect some meeting next week.
wengel: Feel free to join our PackageHub sync call next week (Thursday)
:)
Could we then invite Stefan Behlert + Marco Varlese + Gerald there?
wengel is going to invite them to our Package Hub sync call.
Lkocman: one thing to realize is the 14 months overlap support
## Maintenance team (Marcus or Maurizio (m4u))
Fixed a long standing issue with gnome-music that was blocking openqa
for a long time.
15.4 is working
issue in config that resulted into skipping -debuginfo packages for
NonFree was fixed.
5.3 is working
15.5 setup TBD (Mid-to-End February would be preferred).
lkocman needs to do official 15.5 Maint setup request beta in ~2 weeks
Nothing worrysome, preannoucement for 15.3 EOL was sent to mainling
list End of December 2022.
There were three chromium updates in single week.
lkocman: 15.3 EOL could lead to stopping our physical Source DVD
effort, as it seems we will not produce. As this was the last release
which you could still get on a physical media.
Lkocman: anything against decomissioning it?
Configuration setup problem for Maintenance of Leap 15.4 maintenance
updates / openQA
Marcus regarding Leap 15.4 Image respin - package set will change, we
do need to refresh the packagelist
* Lubos to talk to Jan Stehlik, we can't put all on Marcuses shoulder.
https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/ReleaseEngineering-20221110-maintenance-dis…
Confirmation that QA/QA-maint team will oversee the setup (issues)
Lubos: I was asked to provide requirements for the QA team. Mostly for
the GA/current release but also for the update. Lubos will make wiki
with requirements (something like maintenance plan perhaps). Marcus
will review it.
* Leap Micro 5.3 maint setup done
ffmpeg - (still unsolved) possible file conflict on the next update, no
idea how to avoid vendor switching at the moment.
Removing the patch on the openSUSE side (that might contain security
fixes) or releasing update on the packman side could fix the issue.
Lubos to give Marcus some working contact for the team.
## Adrian - OBS
Adrian: please set the spdx flag for building containers, so every
container build will have spdx data in the registry.
lkocman: will check 15.4 + 15.5 (15.3 is EOL).
Heads up: working on spdx sbom data generation for containers
After changing the signing key of Factory without rebuilding the
distribution "osc build" using
chroot builds run into the problem that gpg verification of the rpm's
failed.
To tell osc to use also the old gpg key we introduced a temporary
openSUSE:Tumbleweed:OldKey project. We will remove this project again
after full rebuild of Factory.
This should work for all arches. Users get additional question if they
want to trust the additional project once.
This solves the issue for people who build against
openSUSE:Tumbleweed/standard or openSUSE:Factory/snapshot. It does not
solve it when building against openSUSE:Factory/standard directly (not
the default in OBS).
Dirk: Recommended solution is to use the kvm build (add `build-type =
kvm` to your ~/.oscrc)
Adrian: Agreed that we should aim for switching the osc default here
(also wanted by security team). Still some issues to solve to make it
more convinient.
## Project maintainer work flow Status
* Base policy to be developed
Background on topic found at
https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/ReleaseEngineering-20221221
For me it comes down to a matter of communication.
A note like 'thx for your SR, I think we should adapt the following '
or ' we are reviewing your SR, and quite stuck with work...' could
already change a lot. Silence for more then 4 week is clearly a perfect
way to annoy contributors.
And the question should be asked if those unresponsive maintainers are
still willing to maintain their projects. Or they may even not be
active anymore, another discussion we are having

Today I update from TW 20230104 to 20230131 and found that xrdp is no longer working
Attempts to connect get
connecting to sesman on 127.0.0.1:3350
sesman connect ok
sending login info to session manager. Please wait...
login failed for user joe
The problem is related to the pam config location change from /etc/pam.d to /usr/lib/pam.d
for the xrdp-sesman configuration file.
If I copy the file back to /etc/pam.d then xrdp works fine.
Which component should I select in bugzilla to report this as I don't see xrdp or pam and component options?
