[opensuse-factory] acpid requires systemd?

Can this be true? If so, why? Zypper won't let me upgrade acpid without breakage unless systemd is installed too. Linux graphics on TW: going full-DRM; retiring fbdev drivers

tl;dr: Enable DRM for all graphics output and retire fbdev drivers in TW. Hi! For quit a few releases, Linux' DRM stack has been able to provide display output from the early boot stages on. Next year, we want to modernize Tumbleweed's graphics stack and use DRM for all graphics output. To get graphics output during the early stages of booting, Linux still uses fbdev infrastructure and a few HW-independed drivers, such as efifb and vesafb. This functionality is now available in DRM as well. We will switch early-boot graphics from fbdev to DRM and retire the related fbdev drivers. Fbdev userspace interfaces (i.e., /dev/fb0) will still be available via the new driver. The change has no effect on graphics output of the fully booted machine. Just as now, at some point during boot, a hardware-specific driver, such as amdgpu, i915, etc., will take over the display. Why switch? The generic DRM driver provides a fallback for all systems without hardware-specific drivers. Even with broken hardware drivers, generic DRM can most likely boot and provide graphics output. This isn't easily possible with fbdev. Fbdev has been out of date for several years. Modern graphics userspace slowly uses the ability to run on top of fbdev. Most notably, wayland compositors are affected by this. We also have received reports about systems being unable to boot because of fbdev. TW's X11 and userspace should be ready (sans bugs). If you want to test, Takashi provides a kernel that has full-DRM enabled at https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/tiwai:/simpledrm/ If you install and boot the kernel, you should ideally see no difference. Once booted the hardware's driver will do the graphics output. To test if you booted with generic DRM, do dmesg | grep drm on the command line. The output should mention 'simpledrm' somewhere. If you want to run your system with the generic driver only, pass nomodeset on the kernel command line in Grub. The booted system should run with only software rendering, but provide useful output via X11, wayland and console. We welcome bug reports. Dear Geekos, those who joined the openSUSE conference got aware that we have a completely new approach (ALP) on the desk. But until this flies, we need to make sure that Leap stays attractive for the openSUSE community. In other words - Leap 15.5 needs to receive updates and new features - updated versions of Rust and Python, just to mention two burning topics, as both versions shipped as default in current Leap are already EOL. We understand that SLE15-SP5, the basis of Leap 15.5, will be a 'no feature' release. And this is exactly the problem. We need to update the application layer like in the development model before Closing-the-Leap-Gap, ideally from Tumbleweed. In the release engineering meeting on 15.06. [1] this was discussed (briefly). A potential solution could be to collect these updates in a repo like openSUSE:Leap:15.5 The intention of this mail is to get the discussion about a solution started, in order to make Leap 15.5 great product, before ALP flies. - Is a separate repo for application updates a feasible approach? - what needs to be done to set this up? - will submission work 'as before'? - openQA testing? - any other business? Missing Quite-rss for Leap 15.4 and Tumbleweed

Hello. Quite-rss[1] is a open-source cross-platform RSS/Atom news feeds reader. And is not available for Leap 15.4 or Tumbleweed users. :( There's a package available for Leap 15.3[2] and from there I have downloaded the files and uploaded in my build.o.o account and from there it's available for Leap 15.4[3] in my home project. But I would like to be included in Leap 15.4 repos, and available for everybody, but really don't know how to do it. Also I'm lost trying to make it available for Tumbleweed (seems to be issues with Qt5WebKitWidgets package, can't find it to build the package) Any help would be appreciated! Greetings.
