Hi all,
I just had to use the serial console on my APU2D (with the Tumbleweed-based
openSUSE MicroOS) to rollback to an earlier snapshot in GRUB2.
And the GRUB2 menu was incredibly slow. Selecting items in the list took like
20s after pressing the DOWN_ARROW key for the selection to actually move.
Is that a known regression? I did not notice that on this machine before.
Funnily, I checked another machine also running MicroOS and there the GRUB2 menu
was "normal", without visible delay.
As a side note, the slow machine failed on my several times during the
selection and rebooted (or restarted grub2?), so I had to restart from the
beginning again...
This was the error shown directly before rebooting:
error: ../../grub-core/video/bitmap_scale.c:41:null src bitmap in
grub_video_bitmap_create_scaled
Is anyone aware of an existing bug report that I missed in my search?
If not, worth opening a bug?
Kind Regards,
Johannes

Hello openSUSE!
One of the outcomes of today's *community meeting was that we need to
decomission the current *software.opensuse.org code-base, as we can't
find volunteers to maintain it nor develop it any further. The current
code-base and its deployment is tied to ruby25 which makes
appliacations of security fixes for currently used rubygems almost
inpossible.
Our social platforms (forums-o-o, discord, etc) show many cases where
incorrect usage of the service leads to Leap systems being partially
migrated to Tumbleweed, or you end up with Tumbleweed which has enabled
a lot of invalid repos. The situation is not going likely to improve
without care any time soon.
At the meeting we agreed that decomission of the service is needed, and
that there is still a need to provide functionality that allows people
to search for and install software which is not part of their install,
and/or to search for version numbering or the status of the NEXT/devel
project(s).
There was already a *brainstorm about the services' future, but there
was not much progress in that direction.
I really hope that this can ignite some constructive discussions that
could help us to develop a replacement for the current service. As
suggesed in the meeting minutes there are upcoming opportunities that
we could make use such as gsoc, outreachy, hackweek. We should not try
to make this a ruby vs python vs node fight, but instead try to find a
sustainable solution to keep the service running for the next decade.

ps. There is no particular date for decomission yet, but it's coming.

See https://www.openldap.org/software/release/announce.html for a list of
changes.
- The threaded version of the OpenLDAP libraries, libldap_r, has been merged
with libldap with 2.5. Removed all related downstream changes, including the
openldap-r-only.dif patch.
Introduce a new compatibility symlink in the other direction: libldap_r
pointing to libldap.
- Removed the ppolicy-check-password module. It is unmaintained and does not
build any more. As part of that also remove the patch
patch 0200-Fix-incorrect-calculation-of-consecutive-number-of-c.patch, which
is applied to this module.
- Removed patch 0001-ITS-8866-slapo-unique-to-return-filter-used-in-diagn.patch
Fixed upstream in 2.5 (ITS#8866)
- Updated patch 0005-pie-compile.dif
Removed the hunks on back-bdb and back-hdb, which are retired backends in 2.5.
- Removed patch 0007-Recover-on-DB-version-change.dif
The back-bdb backend was retired.
- Removed patch 0011-openldap-re24-its7796.patch
Fixed upstream in 2.5 (ITS#7796)

- Include the new overlays in libdir/openldap in the packages.
- Add the pkgconfig files to the devel package.
- Remove compat macro for _fillupdir, which was introduced in Nov 2017 and
should be widely available now.
==== openvpn ====
Version update (2.5.5 -> 2.5.6)
- update to 2.5.6:
* bsc#1197341, CVE-2022-0547: possible authentication bypass in
external authentication plug-in
* Fix "--mtu-disc maybe|yes" on Linux
* Fix $common_name variable passed to scripts when
username-as-common-name is in effect.
* Fix potential memory leaks in add_route() and add_route_ipv6().
* Apply connect-retry backoff only to one side of the connection
in p2p mode.
* repair "--inactive" handling with a 'bytes' parameter larger
than 2 Gbytes.
* new plugin (sample-plugin/defer/multi-auth.c) to help testing
with multiple parallel plugins that succeed/fail in
direct/deferred mode.
==== pipewire ====
Version update (0.3.48 -> 0.3.49)
Subpackages: gstreamer-plugin-pipewire libpipewire-0_3-0 pipewire-lang pipewire-modules-0_3 pipewire-pulseaudio pipewire-spa-plugins-0_2 pipewire-spa-tools pipewire-tools
- Reorder BuildRequires and space conditions a bit better in the
spec file.
- Update to version 0.3.49:
* Highlights
- Sample rate switching should work again.
- pw-dot can now use the output of pw-dump to render a graph.
- Bluetooth A2DP streaming was improved that would reduce
stuttering on some devices.
- A JACK bug was fixed that would sometimes make it impossible
to add more tracks in Ardour. (#1714)
- Many bugfixes and improvements.
* PipeWire
- Fix a potential crash when NULL params were configured.
- Add some simple functional tests to avoid some recent
regressions. Improve the test framework for this as well.
- Improvements to the poll loop to avoid some use-after-free
scenarios.
- Fix samplerate switching again.
- setlocale is not called anymore from the pipewire library.
This should be called by the application. (#2223)
- pw_init() and pw_deinit() can now be nested and called
multiple times.
- pw_stream will now report the resampler delay in the
pw_time.queued field.
* modules
- module-filter-chain now supports arbitrary many properties
and will use property hints to assign them the right type.
- The ROC modules now accept a sink/source_properties
parameter.
- The module-rt can now also be built without RT-Kit support.
- module-echo-cancel can now use a fraction to specify the
delay for more precise control.
* SPA
- The channelmixer will now do upmixing by default and will not
use normalization. It will also use a simple upmixing
algorithm that duplicates channels by default. A more
interesting upmix method is also available (PSD) but needs to
be enabled manually. (#861)
- Add SSE optimized (de)interleave functions for 32 bits
samples with and without byteswap.
- JSON parsing of empty strings will now give an invalid number
instead of 0.
- JSON numbers are now parsed and serialized in a locale
independent way so that , and . are not mixed up.
- The resampler will now report the resample delay and queued
samples as the extra delay.
* tools
- pw-cat will read more dsf files correctly and will not crash
at the end.
- pw-top now has a man page.
- pw-dot can now use the output of pw-dump to render a graph.
* bluetooth
- Improve interactions with oFono.
- Fix recovery with slow connections.
- Improve frame size of AptX-ll.
- A2DP can now use any quantum and will flush packets in
smaller chunks when needed to adapt. This improves stuttering
in some cases.
* pulse-server
- The server configuration can now be placed in
pulse.properties section, which also makes it possible to
have custom overrides.
- Implement FIX_ flags for capture as well.
- Small fixes and improvements in module loading.
* JACK
- Clear the last error before executing a new action or else we
could end up with error from a previous action. This causes
some problems in Ardour where adding a track would fail after
some time. (#1714)
- Rebase reduce-meson-dependency.patch.
==== python-kiwisolver ====

==== python-scipy ====
Version update (1.7.3 -> 1.8.0)
- Update to version 1.8.0
* https://scipy.github.io/devdocs/release.1.8.0.html
* SciPy 1.8.0 is the culmination of 6 months of hard work. It
contains many new features, numerous bug-fixes, improved test
coverage and better documentation. There have been a number of
deprecations and API changes in this release. All users are
encouraged to upgrade to this release, as there are a large
number of bug-fixes and optimizations. Before upgrading, we
recommend that users check that their own code does not use
deprecated SciPy functionality (to do so, run your code with
python -Wd and check for `DeprecationWarning`s).
* A sparse array API has been added for early testing and
feedback; this work is ongoing, and users should expect minor
API refinements over the next few releases.
* The sparse SVD library PROPACK is now vendored with SciPy, and
an interface is exposed via scipy.sparse.svds with
solver='PROPACK'. It is currently default-off due to potential
issues on Windows that we aim to resolve in the next release,
but can be optionally enabled at runtime for friendly testing
with an environment variable setting of USE_PROPACK=1.
* A new scipy.stats.sampling submodule that leverages the UNU.RAN
C library to sample from arbitrary univariate non-uniform
continuous and discrete distributions
* All namespaces that were private but happened to miss
underscores in their names have been deprecated.
* Backwards incompatible changes
- SciPy has raised the minimum compiler versions to GCC 6.3 on
linux and VS2019 on windows. In particular, this means that
SciPy may now use C99 and C++14 features. For more details
see here.
- The result for empty bins for scipy.stats.binned_statistic
with the builtin 'std' metric is now nan, for consistency
with np.std.
- The function scipy.spatial.distance.wminkowski has been
removed. To achieve the same results as before, please use
the minkowski distance function with the (optional) w=
keyword-argument for the given weight.
==== python-trio ====
Version update (0.19.0 -> 0.20.0)
- Update to version 0.20.0
* You can now conveniently spawn a child process in a background
task and interact it with on the fly using process = await
nursery.start(run_process, ...). See run_process for more
details. We recommend most users switch to this new API. Also
note that:
- trio.open_process has been deprecated in favor of
trio.lowlevel.open_process,
- The aclose method on Process has been deprecated along with
async with process_obj. (#1104)
* Now context variables set with contextvars are preserved when
running functions in a worker thread with
trio.to_thread.run_sync, or when running functions from the
worker thread in the parent Trio thread with
trio.from_thread.run, and trio.from_thread.run_sync. This is
done by automatically copying the contextvars context.
trio.lowlevel.spawn_system_task now also receives an optional
context argument. (#2160)
* Trio now avoids creating cyclic garbage when a MultiError is
generated and filtered, including invisibly within the
cancellation system. This means errors raised through nurseries
and cancel scopes should result in less GC latency. (#2063)
* Trio now deterministically cleans up file descriptors that were
opened before subprocess creation fails. Previously, they would
remain open until the next run of the garbage collector.
(#2193)
* Add compatibility with OpenSSL 3.0 on newer Python and PyPy
versions by working around SSLEOFError not being raised
properly. (#2203)
* Fix a bug that could cause Process.wait to hang on Linux
systems using pidfds, if another task were to access
Process.returncode after the process exited but before wait
woke up (#2209)
- Drop trio-pr2043-py310ssl-deprecationwarnings.patch

- Add missing patch from a PTFs (bsc#1194938)
* Patches added:
scsi-generic-check-for-additional-SG_IO-.patch
- Kill downstream patches around bifmt handling that makes
cumbersome to run multi-arch containers, and switch to the
upstream behavior, which is well documented and valid on
all other distros. This is possible thanks to Linux kernel
commit 2347961b11d4 and QEMU commit 6e1c0d7b951e19c53 (so
it can only work on Leap/SLE 15.4 and higher). (bsc#1197298)

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,
During this week, we only managed to get 4 snapshots (0324, 0328, 0329,
and 0330) out of the door. Seems QA is slowing us down too much, so I
decided to give up on it. To make Tumbleweed more plannable for
upgraders, the new process will foresee a fixed time when a snapshot
will go out – daily at 5 pm UTC. We will just ship out whatever we have
built by that time. This is a minimal tradeoff between stability and
plannability – after all, we all trust our developers and maintainers
and we know that they test things before sending them your way. So no
more need to slow down using QA!
Anyway, the 4 snapshots we delivered during this week contained these
updates:
* GStreamer 1.20.1
* Snapper 0.10.0
* Mozilla Firefox 98.0.2
* systemd 250.4
* timezone 2022a
* ibus 1.5.26 – fixes some incompatibilities with GNOME 42
Of course, we continue planning what will come through in the next few
days; currently, the plan includes:
* Linux kernel 5.17.1
* KDE Plasma 5.24.4
* Mesa 22.0.1
* gcc12: we won’t be switching to it as the default compiler yet, but
we will start using the provided libstdc libraries from gcc12 (phazes
migration, as done in the past)
* procps-ng 4.0
Cheers,
Dominique

Hello!
I found issue that in installation descriptions on System Role don't translate.
In webplate, translations available (KDE Plasma description - https://l10n.opensuse.org/translate/yast-control/master/ru/?checksum=8daf71…) but don't add.
I think, not correct link to file with translations in webplate (in right side) is the reason of problem.
I create bug report in translation section (https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1197965) but there are some reports without answer from March 2021. I afraid, that my report will not be seen by anyone.
Can you fix this bug or tell me how can I help our favorite distribution to be more quality?

I need to replace my boot loader, as one of the upgrades performed by to
upgrade my libraries removed the 32bit libs that lilo upon which lilo
required to install a new OS was removed as not being necessary.
Unfortunately, it was needed to install a new kernel, so while my system
can continue to run I can't upgrade to a new kernel.
I think Grub is the current (?) recommended boot loader (?) but I really
don't know. How can I install a loader lthat can let me boot as well as
select what kernel image at boot time as well as add parameters to the
boot line (like adding kenel flags and/or whether or not to start in a
rescue mode, etc. Of course once I try, any major mistake might prohibit
a retry...but maybe there are suggestions on how to prepare for that
possibility?
thanks!

Hi,
I'm playing with the battery monitoring on my ThinkPads running TW:
Output of tlp-stat -b (extract):
+++ Recommendations
* Install acpi_call kernel module for ThinkPad battery recalibration
* Install tp-smapi kernel modules for extended battery status (e.g. the cycle
count)
We don't ship these modules with the default kernel?
Cheers
Axel

Version update (2.4.6 -> 2.4.7)
Subpackages: libltdl7 libltdl7-32bit
- add handle-Werror-return-type.patch
- disable lto, breaks libtool as seen in testsuite
- update to 2.4.7:
- Libtool script now supports (configure-time and runtime) ARFLAGS
variable, which obsoletes AR_FLAGS. This is due to naming conventions
among other *FLAGS and to be consistent with Automake's ARFLAGS.
- Gnulib testsuite is enabled and run during 'make check'.
- Support the Windows version of the Intel C Compiler (icl) in
libtool script.
- Pass '-fsanitize=*' flags for GCC and LLVM, and '-specs=*' for GCC
to linker.
- Pass '-Xassembler=*' and '-Wa,*' flag to compilers and linkers.
- The variable 'FILECMD' with default value of '/usr/bin/file' was used to
replace existing hard coded references to '/usr/bin/file'.
- Add MidnightBSD support.
- Libtool changed ARFLAGS/AR_FLAGS default from 'cru' to 'cr'.
- Do not pass '-pthread' to Solaris linker.
- 'libtool' and 'libtoolize' scripts now use '#! /usr/bin/env sh' shebang.
Previously '#! /bin/sh' was used, which presents challenges for
containerized environments.
- Fix significant slowdown of libtoolize for certain projects (regression
introduced in 2.4.3 release) caused by infinite m4 macro recursion.
- Mitigate the slowdown of libtool script (introduced in v2.4.3) caused by
increased number of calls to '$SED $sed_quote_subst' (bug#20006).
- Properly parse and export TLS symbols on AIX.
- Various bug fixes surrounding use of 'sed'.
- Darwin systems set proper "allow undefined" flag on OSX 11, and
PowerPC 10.5.
- Removed some deprecated tests related to 'Makefile.inc' files.
- merge in testsuite, disable for now, isn't building for a while

- rpm/macros.kernel-source: avoid %if's and %define's

- commit 36a1351
- Update to 5.17 final

- commit be2cbd1
- rpm: Use bash for %() expansion (jsc#SLE-18234).
Since 15.4 alternatives for /bin/sh are provided by packages
<something>-sh. While the interpreter for the build script can be
selected the interpreter for %() cannot.
The kernel spec files use bashisms in %().
While this could technically be fixed there is more serious underlying
problem: neither bash nor any of the alternatives are 100% POSIX
compliant nor bug-free.
It is not my intent to maintain bug compatibility with any number of
shells for shell scripts embedded in the kernel spec file. The spec file
syntax is not documented so embedding the shell script in it causes some
unspecified transformation to be applied to it. That means that
ultimately any changes must be tested by building the kernel, n times if
n shells are supported.
To reduce maintenance effort require that bash is used for kernel build
always.

==== srt ====
Version update (1.4.3 -> 1.4.4)
- update to 1.4.4:
* Monotonic/steady clock is enabled by default.
* Changed the default value of SRTO_RETRANSMITALGO socket option to 1. This
activates the efficient retransmission algorithm on the sender side which
optimizes the bandwidth usage by producing fewer retransmissions per lost
packet. The algorithm is available since v1.4.2. Intensive retransmission
algorithm (the former default) can be activated by setting
SRTO_RETRANSMITALGO=0.
* Improved random integer retrieval, which is mainly used for initial socket
ID and Initial Sequence Number (ISN) generation.
* Improved clock drift compensation algorithm. RTT samples are now taken into
account when estimating clock drift.
* Improved round-trip time (RTT) estimation.
On the receiver side, smoothed RTT (SRTT) is set to the first RTT
measurement obtained from the first ACK/ACKACK pair. When a subsequent RTT
measurement is made, an exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) is used to
update smoothed RTT. Before the very first RTT sample is available, SRTT is
initialized as 100 ms or taken from the cache if one exists.
* On the sender side, in the case of unidirectional transmission, the values of
smoothed RTT and RTT variance are now extracted from ACK packets. In the case
of bidirectional transmission, an EWMA is still applied to be consistent with
the previous behavior.
* Improved 'No room to store incoming packet' warning with additional hints
to identify a possible reason.
* Added support for atomic types.
* Improved the logic of switching between main and backup links, extended the
list of member link states as well as defined events resulting in state
transition for Main/Backup mode of Connection Bonding.
* Documented Main/Backup mode of Connection Bonding. See here.
* Fixed group read-readiness update on the receiver side.
* Added missing lock when checking for read-readiness of a group member and
fixed the resulting crash.
* Fixed base time and drift synchronization in a group, which caused
insufficient packet loss recovery and end-to-end latency maintenance by a
group receiver.
* Fixed validation of the packet sequence number when reading from a group
member, which was causing an incorrect decision to break a member
connection.
* Fixed crash on dereferencing null CryptoControl instance in handshake reply.
* Placed some of the SRT classes under the 'srt' namespace.
* Fixed possible incorrect outcome of cookie contest function (rendezvous
connection mode) under certain compiler optimizations.
* Fixed uninitialized destination socket ID in Shutdown control message.
* Set CLOEXEC for epoll on Linux.
* Added missing receiver buffer lock into CUDT::receiveBuffer(..) and
CUDT::recvfile(..) functions.
* Make sure TTL will not drop packets over the last block.
* Fixed the value of the Last Packet Sequence Number field in Drop Request
control message on TTL packet drop.
* Fixed the content of the Drop Request control message. If a loss of packets
already missing in the sender buffer was reported, the very first packet
present in the sender buffer was incorrectly included in the range of
packets to be dropped.
* Fixed version rejection for handshake v4 caller (SRT prior to v1.3.0).
* Fixed the crash when referencing a resource already freed in CRendezvousQueue class.
* Fixed detection of reusable bindings and binding conflicts.
* Updated SRTO_RETRANSMITALGO socket option description.
