[INFO] glibc 2.34 - trouble ahead with docker (again)

Dear Tumbleweed users, As was announced over the course of the last few weeks, glibc has been prepared to be updated to version 2.34. This took quite a while in staging to get all the builds and the staging QA to settle. But that goal was reached, and openSUSE:Factory has been rebuilt with glibc 2.34 (big snapshot ahead) Now, unfortunately, we have detected some more issues in the full product testing around docker: https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1190670 docker is blocking a syscall (we had similar cases with glibc 2.33) We managed to get our own docker package in Factory fixed (part of snapshot 0920 - should we release that), which would mean TW docker containers would (again) for the time being only run on TW hosts (and other hosts with a docker version that has been fixed) Docker upstream had been informed of this issue on July 27: https://github.com/moby/moby/pull/42681; the pull-request was merged on Jul 30. But this only found its way into the 'future docker version' - i.e. even the latest docker version available is still not carrying this fix. If you work with any hosting providers that run a docker version without a backport from https://github.com/moby/moby/pull/42836 make sure to reach out to them and ask to get this corrected. There is not much more we can do from our side - the alternative is 'holding TW from rolling until everybody gets a new docker version'. We on the openSUSE Release Team do not feel this is a viable option, as a new docker version could be months away. Please help to make sure this information spreads as far as possible. Belgium id card reader with Tumbleweed

Living in Belgium i try to connect my id card reader to their special software. In the instructions there is software for openSUSE Leap 15.2 and 15.3. tried both rpm but was not able to make a connection with the card reader. before I try to build my own software with the help of the broncode: eID software.eid-mw.tar.gz <https://eid.belgium.be/sites/default/files/software/eid-mw-5.0.28-v5.0.28.t…> would like to know if somebody of the Belgian Tumbleweed users is using this software. If not I need al professional help in producing the necesary software. *

Switch all packages to /usr?

Hi, Now with the UsrMerge in place the question arises what to do with all the packages that still install files into /bin, /sbin, /lib and /lib64 without causing conflicts. The files end up in their counterpart in /usr anyway as rpm follows the directory symlinks. So technically there is no strict requirement to adjust those packages. In fact looking at Fedora 34 it seems they just live with that state. So should we bother and change the remaining packages¹ too? Would make sense for consistency I guess. Tests fails with new glibc

Zypp-main - task blocking my PCs since some days

Hi, since some weeks I have trouble with a background running task on my 2 home- servers and my desktops (all are Tumbleweed based). On all this machines the task is running with 100% CPU load (about some hours up to one day). Additional the LOG consumes partly > 30GB and blocks my server (due to 95% of the root memory are used)! Any idea to remove this crazy task w/o any impact to the main functionality. Remark: Seams that this task is repeated about daily. Main Server: # ls -lh /var/log/pk_backend_zypp* -rw-r----- 1 root root 4.2M Sep 26 20:17 pk_backend_zypp -rw-r----- 1 root root 1.2G Sep 24 15:30 pk_backend_zypp.gz -rw-r----- 1 root root 7.2G Sep 26 09:14 pk_backend_zypp-1 Remark: pk_backend_zypp.gz was zipped due to the huge size of 30GB, to fix the root out of space problem (so the btrfs based root and /var have 64GB size).
