Dear Package maintainers and hackers.
Below package(s) in openSUSE:Factory have been failing to build for at
least 4 weeks. We tried to send out notifications to the
configured bugowner/maintainers of the package(s), but so far no
fix has been submitted. This probably means that the
maintainer/bugowner did not yet find the time to look into the
matter and he/she would certainly appreciate help to get this
sorted.
- python-agate-sql
Unless somebody is stepping up and submitting fixes, the listed
package(s) are going to be removed from openSUSE:Factory.
Kind regards,
DimStar / Dominique Leuenberger <dimstar(a)opensuse.org>

by downstreams that still use CVS (!547)
Miscellaneous
* udev rules now trigger on all events other
than 'remove' (!541). This aims to address a kernel API change
introduced in 4.14. The new behaviour may slow down udev's
processing of kernel events when still using our plain 'udev'
or 'udev+acl' rules, even though these have been optimized
slightly (#341). If that bothers you, now is a good time
to switch to our 'udev+hwdb' rules in combination with
the 'hwdb' database if you have not done so already.

identical to the previous release feature wise.
- Major parts of the previous Bash only application have been
rewritten in C++ with the goal to provide an API around
transactions; the transactional-update script is using that
new interface internally already, however the API should
be considered experimental for now - if you are interested to
use it, please notify us in
https://github.com/openSUSE/transactional-update/issues/52
- A new tool called "tukit" provides a C++ tool that can be
wrapped by scripts to leverage the functionality. Please
consider it experimental for now, the commands may still change.

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,
This week might not have seen the highest count of snapshots being
published (only 3, 0212, 0215, and 0217), but for sure we reached the
highest count of packages to replace on your system and megabytes to
transfer this year (so far). We have few reasons to trigger rebuilds of
all packages, and most of the time I do that on a glibc update and when
we switch the default compiler (in both cases to make use of new
technologies). This week, glibc was the ‘guilty’ one.
The three snapshots contained the following changes (and more):
* glibc 2.33
* Mozilla Thunderbird 78.7.1
* Mozilla Firefox 85.0.1
* Linux kernel 5.10.14 & 5.10.16
* LibreOffice 7.1.0.3
* KDE Plasma 5.21.0
* KDE Frameworks 5.79.0
* postfix 3.5.9: note: the default format for its databases changed
from lmdb to bdb; bdb support is in postfix-bdb
That is almost everything I promised you last week. Almost! But don’t
worry: while we all enjoy a stable, rolling release, the developers
keep on submitting new changes. Currently, we are testing the
integration of these parts:
* Linux kernel 5.11.x
* Binutils 2.36
* GNOME 3.38.4 (GNOME 40.beta is being tested in GNOME:Next)
* openssl 1.1.1i, based on centralized crypto-policies package
* Use GCC 11 as default compiler (Staging:Gcc7)
Cheers,
Dominique

apache2: missing groupadd, filup since 2021-02-17 - what's the correct path to dix
by Ralf Lang 19 Feb '21
by Ralf Lang 19 Feb '21
19 Feb '21
Hello,
in a container build on tumbleweed,
the apache2 package is now suddenly missing things like groupadd (from
shadow package) or fillup (fillup) to install correctly.
Now this is not meant as a bug report, i'm just puzzled what I should SR
as the correct fix
a) make apache2 depend on what it uses and not assume implicit dependencies
b) make apache2 no longer depend on groupadd (possible) or fillup (harder)
c) just wait for some unrelated change fixing it.

Hello openSUSE!
This is a friendly reminder that the code drop deadline for openSUSE
Leap 15.3 Beta is next Wednesday 17th of February 15:00 CET.
Code drop deadline is in sync with SUSE Linux Enterprise 15 SP3 Public
Beta as both milestones are expected to have an identical core,
therefore the deadlines must be the same.
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Roadmap (was corrected to reflect the
change).
** Buffer for SUSE:SLE submissions**
I've checked and there, are currently no new community submit requests
against packages from SUSE:SLE* projects. However, I'd like to ask
contributors to submit submissions against SUSE:SLE* packages with some
buffer as suse-sle-reviewers have to approve them first before they're
visible to SLE friends. This needs to be done before the actual
deadline. Also, don't forget to reference issues for SLE submissions or
we'll have to ask for resubmit.
** Note on new packages **
If you're a bit late and you still want to submit a new package to Leap
then please submit it directly to openSUSE:Backports:SLE-15-SP3 as our
SR redirection that is in place for openSUSE:Leap:15.3 would not be
able to guess the destination project by non-existing package origin
(this should be either SLE or Backports, or Leap for KPIs and branding
packages).
Why Backports? Starting with openSUSE Leap 15.3 the openSUSE Backports
is where we build community part of openSUSE Leap 15.3.
** What about docs?**
I've updated https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Packaging_for_Leap to
match the changes in openSUSE Leap 15.3 introduced by the Jump
prototype, including suse-sle-reviewers, mirroring, and blacklist
information. I would appreciate any help to shape up the page or make
the information more clear or accessible.
Thank you!

I do not know if this where I should start.
I have used SuSE since the days of the Atlanta Linux Showcase. There developer ( He was referred to as the IDE guy) got SuSE to work on my laptop. He spent some time poking at it. He said go to the booth and buy a copy and I will have it working for the next release. Which he did.
I have been running SuSE ever since, mostly on HP Business laptops. It has always worked fine until now. I have a HP 855 G7 which has an AMD cpu and a AMD gpu. I am running Leap 15.2 which still has a 5.3. ... kernel. I believe this also true for 15.3 .
I know Leap is meant to be stable but that should not mean not working. The laptop display worked but the HDMI port was not usable. After much pain I added the kernel/stable repository which provided a much later kernel and I can now talk to HDMI displays. Also the physical buttons on the touchpad now work.
The Leap install was painful since the installer had even more issues with the touchpad.
This install was the first distribution which did not properly support current hardware.
Maybe SuSE releases should state that they may not support current computers. Out of curiosity I also tried the Enterprise desktop product. It had more issues than Leap.
Tumbleweed also works since it also has a later kernel

Dear Python packagers, maintainers, hackers, users,
here is another mailinglist post which unevitably people tend to not see
and start to complain about later:
NumPy 1.20 was merged into openSUSE:Factory standard yesterday. The next
released Tumbleweed snapshots will have it too.
Relevant for end users:
-----------------------
A few packages are not ready for NumPy 1.20 yet. Numba 0.51 is one
example. If this is relevant for you, don't zypper dup your system yet.
Relevant for package maintainers:
---------------------------------
While we already fixed some of the fallout from SciPy 1.6.0, the number
of unresolvable packages in openSUSE:Factory standard is now back at
265. Many of them because they cannot find python36-numpy. A few more
because of OpenStack packages not supporting multiple python3 flavors.
Dirk Müller is already working on that.
This is the relevant thread on python(a)lists.opensuse.org with
suggestions how to deal with it:
https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/python@lists.opensuse.org/message/…
While getting NumPy 1.20 ready for Ring1 staging, I noticed that most of
the packages initially failing do actually not have hard requirements on
NumPy. In those cases it is enough to keep the python36 flavor, but not
try to install python36-numpy. %python_module now has a handy capability
to support RPM's boolean dependencies to achieve this:
BuildRequires: %{python_module numpy if (%python-base without
python36-base)}
If necessary, tell pytest to skip numpy relevant tests then. But many
upstream packages already skip the tests automatically. The same
principle goes for SciPy, Matplotlib, Pandas and so on.
If NumPy is indeed a hard requirement for the package, just `%define
skip_python36 1`. And please take care of depending packages as well.
Happy coding,
Ben

==== sendmail ====
Subpackages: libmilter1_0
- Fix up build dependencies. The construct:
%%if %%{undefined systemd_requires}\n%%global with_sysvinit 1
does not work as intended. The OBS scheduler for example does not
have all the macros coming from 'random' rpmmacro files/packages
(systemd-rpm-macros in this case) present, as such for OBS,
systemd_requires is undefined, which in turn pulls in
insserv_prereq. The build itself then does not use it though, as
at this time, the correct macros are known (inside the build VM).
- As we're at it: replace systemd_requires with systemd_ordering:
people installing sendmail into a container do not require
systemd as a dependency there. But for people installing sendmail
in a transaction together with systemd, we prefer systemd to be
installed first.

Version update (363 -> 366)
Subpackages: xterm-bin
- Updated to Patch#366 2021/02/10
* correct a compiler-warning fix in patch #352 which allowed
sign-extension of coordinate values (report by "CismonX").
* correct upper-limit for selection buffer, accounting for combining
characters (report/testcase by Tavis Ormandy).
(CVE-2021-27135 bsc#1182091)
* with alwaysHighlight true, xterm does not properly track focus. The
screen->select FOCUS flag remains always on, which prevents
bellIsUrgent from working, as the urgent WM_HINT flag is only set
in setXUrgency() when the window is not focused. Fix this by
updating screen->select in unselectwindow() regardless of the value
of always_highlight (patch by Jiri Bohac).
* improve fix for interaction between SRM and ENQ (report by Grant
Taylor).

omitted (report by Jimmy Olgeni, Emanuel Haupt).
- Updated to Patch #365 - 2021/02/03
* amend fix for ?word? selection in patch #364 to limit that to
the insert-selectable action, which reads data from the screen. This
restores the interactive behavior where double-clicking on a
?word? would make subsequent selection extensions by words as
well as suppressing some boundary-checks (report by David Wolfskill,
FreeBSD #253225).
- Updated to Patch #364 - 2021/02/02
* add -fc option.
* correct/improve limit-checks for SRM versus ENQ from patch #344 (report by Tom Szilagyi).
* enable XftFont resource in Xaw3dxft configuration (patch by Tavis Ormandy).
* improve quoting/escaping in build-scripts per shellcheck.
* add libpcre2-posix to the packages tested for --with-pcre2 option, needed with Fedora (report by Tomas Korbar).
* correct a typo in manual page, and note that KeepClipboard may not be compiled-in (report/patch by Sean C Farley).
* corrected boundary-checks for ?word? selection used in onNClicks resources (report by Tavis Ormandy).
* update to autoconf-2.52-20210101, to improve shellcheck warnings.
* improve configure check for desktop categories.

Hello,
I ran zypper ref && zypper dup and I'm still receiving over 2500 new

I've not seen the traditional "New Tumbleweed snapshot..." announcement
for this heavy update.

Hi,
I got indicies that some people do not like SUSE httpd configuration
mechanism, for example wrt diverging from other distros. What do you
think? Your opinion is valuable.
To recap, there are two levels: higher one represented by systemd
service apache2 (and apache2@ for instances), as known as
start_apache2, which takes sysconfig variables -- eventually set by
yast httpd module -- into account. Lower level is represented by
running just httpd, which is not influenced by sysconfig variables.
This separation was driven by illogical behaviour when mixing these two
approaches together.
Both positive and negative feedback is welcome before we consider what
we can do better.
